Fuel and Engines

We commonly relate fuel and engines with gasoline. Other engines also run on natural gas such as propane and “bio-fuels” such as ethanol. The principle remains the same as the fuel induces internal combustion.

Can you use unleaded 95 petrol in a two stroke engine?

yes, but you still have to add 2-stroke oil unless you want to burn the engine up.

Where do you find the bank 2 sensor 1 on a 1997 Ford Taurus with a 3.0 liter overhead valve engine?

It is in the exhaust pipe nearest the front. If you jack the car up it can be found by looking just behind the plastic underbody shield that extends back from the bumper and looking up along the exhaust pipe. It will require a 7/8 wrench. The connector is located up at the top just below and to the left of the fuse box. Be glad it isn't bank 1. That sensor is between the engine and the firewall on the pasenger side and is almost impossible to see let alone replace.

Does sale of gas at the Montvale rest area stop on March 3rd?

Here is the response I got from the NJ Tpk Authority In response to your fuel station inquiry, our office prepared the following information for your review and consideration: * Monday, March 3, 2008 - At 6:00 AM, the LukOil Service Station will temporally suspend its fueling operations to allow the company to complete its scheduled capital improvement program. The scope of the capital improvement program involves replacing the existing Underground Storage Tank system. * 12 Week Long Renovation Project: Due to the scope of the project and the nature of the work involved, the Authority and LukOil believe the temporary closure is a safety measure and would expedite the overall completion time of the project. We anticipate the proposed work will be completed prior to Memorial Day Weekend. In attempt to minimize the Impact on the majority of our patrons during the project, the Authority schedules this type of work during our off-peak driving seasons compared to our heaviest driving seasons like summer and/or major holidays. * Roadway Advisories: In an effort to advise motorists during of the renovation construction project, the Authority will use a combination of roadway construction signage (orange/black signs) and portable variable message sign trailers similar to the one you saw today. In the near future, the Authority anticipates unveiling its Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) system supporting the northern terminus of the Garden State Parkway. When this system is activated roadway signage will offer radio frequency Information permitting motorists to receive traffic updates, Parkway construction or roadway emergency information through their vehicle's radio system. * Montvale Service Area Operations: The scheduled Service Station renovation project will not force us to close the Service Area (restaurants) managed by HMSHost Corporation, our designated Service Area Operator. * Available Fuel Service: Fuel service will be available at the remaining Service Area facilities operating on the Garden State Parkway: The Last Northbound Service Station: During the renovation project, the LukOIl Service Station/Brookdale Service Area - North, Milepost 153.3, north located between Exits 151 and 153 will serve as the last fuel stop on the Parkway before the New York State Border. The First Available Southbound Service Station from New York: During the renovation project at the Montvale Service Area, the LukOil Service Station/Brookdale Service Area - South, Milepost 153.3 South located between Exits 153 and 151 will become the first available southbound fuel stop on the Parkway upon entering the state from New York. We hope the provided information is helpful. Thank you for contacting the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and for your inquiry involving the LukOil Service Station affiliated with our Montvale Service Area.

What is Short stroke and long stroke engine?

It refers to the throws of the crankshaft/distance the piston moves. It usually is compared to the bore of the engine. An example a 302 4"bore x 3"stroke is a short stroke motor, by comparison a 5.4L ford v8 3.552" bore x 4.165" stroke.

Is your gas line frozen?

I doubt it, since I live in San Diego county.

If you're asking if your gas line is frozen, we don't know, since you haven't described any symptoms. It has to get pretty cold for this to happen, and normally the only fix required is to get the car into a (heated) garage and let it warm up and thaw.

What is causing engine knocking during acceleration in high gear with standard fuel and correct timing on a 94 Park Avenue Ultra?

Timing is controlled by the PCM, and is not adjustable. You might have a problem with either a plugged gas filter, egr system malfunctioning, or induction problem (leaking tube going from the MAF/MAP to the throttle body. Also check the PCV valve. In addition, carbon buildup. Most supercharged vehicles require premium fuel only. Also, engine pre-detonation (knock) is sometimes a symptom of high exhaust back pressure. You might have a muffler shop check the back pressure in your exhaust. It could be a plugged up catalyst.

Why rocker arm comes off?

Something is broken, bent, collapsed, or out of adjustment.

What is squish in diesel engines?

Squish refers to the effect in a diesel/compression ignition engine when the piston approaches top dead centre.

In a direct injection system; the system is designed to make the air swirl in the combustion chamber. As the piston reaches tdc the air is reaches a high temperature, high enough to ingnite the diesel being injected into the cylinder. Squish is used to describe this final - rapid acceleration of the air caused by compression to acheive the ignition temperature.

In an in-direct injection system; the diesel is already in the air mixture as it enters the cylinder. The same process happens as per the direct injection system; ie the mixture is is compressed which raises the temperature (boyles law) to the point where ignition occurs.

Simply: Squish is where the air/fuel mixture is compressed in the combustion chamber until the corresponding temperature rise ignites the fuel.

Does the Paul Pantone fuel save work?

If you are asking if Paul Pantone's GEET fuel reformer provides better fuel economy, the answer is yes, if it is built and installed correctly. His invention is one of many types of fuel reformers. "GEET" is the name of Paul Pantone's company: Global Environmental Energy Technology. Fuel reformers can crack fuel into shorter chain hydrocarbons and hydrogen rich gases.

Fuel reformers have been around a long time. They utilize an endothermic chemical reaction that requires heat and a catalyst or heat and a plasma or both a catalyst and plasma together.

Paul Pantone's fuel reformer is a unique type of plasma fuel reformer because it does not require an external electrical power source. Rather, it builds electrostatic potential similar how thunderstorms do when lightning is created and that static build up along with a partial vacuum establishes a plasma inside the GEET fuel reformer.

The engine exhaust supplies the heat source for the endothermic reaction, therefore much of the otherwise wasted heat energy is returned to the engine in the form of shorter hydrocarbon molecules with higher potential energy than the same mass as longer chain hydrocarbons. The process is similar "steam reforming" which cracks hydrogen from both hydrocarbon vapors and the water steam. Steam reforming is the primary method used worldwide for the production of hydrogen. However a plasma fuel reformer can operate at lower temperatures than are usually required for catalytic steam reforming.

Many vehicle's in France have installed the GEET fuel reformer but it seems to get bad press in the USA.

Regarding fuel reformers in general, they have been around since the beginning of the auto industry but auto makers won't sell cars with them. In 1974, JPL engineers published an SAE report about their work demonstrating that fuel reformers provide better fuel economy and cleaner air.

Regarding the powered plasma fuel reformer mentioned above that was developed by MIT and Arvin Meritor, after years of studies to demonstrate how well it works and shortly before its deployment to the USA auto industry, the company One Equity Partners bought out the division of Arvin Meritor that did the final development and they shut down its deployment to the auto industry. Now that division is called Emcon Technologies and now they make primarily systems to clean the exhaust. The only systems they sell that improve fuel economy are ones with minimal fuel economy improvement compared to the canceled fuel reformer.

Has anyone heard of or has had a MotorVac Carbon Clean done to their engine to help pass Nox Emissions on an older car say a 1990 or older. It has been suggested I do before puttin in a new converter.?

Yes, I have performed this service to numberous pre 1990 vehicles, both injection and carberated, with dramatic results. The service will clean the Oxygen sensor and the catalytic converter and the vehicle will most probably pass smog like the ones I performed the service to. My email address is more.power@sbcglobal.net as I have not signed in.

1820 cubic inches equals how many liters?

There are 61.02 cubic inches per liter. So, divide cubic inches by 61.02 to get liters: 1820 / 61.02 = about 30 (29.8263) liters.

What would cause the engine to cut out when it is hot?

The year, make, model and engine size would help us help you. In older vehicles (pre-fuel injection) vapor lock was an issue.

In 250cc how much horsepower?

250 cc does not correllate to HP. Little 250 CC bikes are the fastest class of motorcyles--turbocharged, 10,000 rpm, high compression fuel injection running nitromethane--yikes! The most efficient engines would be very tiny but have all the ups and extras. Different 250cc engines put out anything from 1-100 horsepower. Essentially, it depends on how the engine is designed and what its intended purpose is.

How would you know if you have a vacuum leak?

first symptom of a vacuum leak would be a shaky idle also a trained ear will listen for a hiss around a vacuum hose also the engine miss usually goes away as engine rpm is increased.find the cylinder that does not changethe way the car runs by pulling spark plug wires off one atr a time with insulated ignition pliers if you have seven cylinders that are strong and one that barley changes idle when you pull spark to that cylinder chances are there is a vacuum lek to the weak cylinder.follow any vacuum hose that lead to the wek cylinder spray carb cleaner on intake manifold gasketr while engine running. if engine smoothes out while spraying gaskets, air is probally entering causing that cylinders fuel ratio to be lean. also egr valves are known to cause intrernal vacuum leaks. a good tech should finbd it in 15 minutes
