How do you find and test a brake light switch on a 1997 Geo Metro?
The brake light switch would be located under the dash right above the brake pedal. It could be mounted to the pedal arm itself, or attached to the dash. You would unplug the switch, and using just a continuity meter, stick the probes inside each connector of the switch, and press down on the brake pedal. If the meter buzzes, or shows 0 ohms then the switch is good.
i just bought a red 92 metro with that problem too. we took a compression check of cylinders and found 2 that were gone, took head off and found #1&3 exhaust valve burned through and damaged. i replaced all 3 exhaust valved and regrounded all the valves in place. it runs fine. check your compression first, if good get back to me.
It's kind of detailed. I would suggest you go to your local Advance or Autozone and see if they have or can order you a Haynes manual for that car. I know Advance can get them because that's where I got mine. They run about 17 bucks but are well worth it. There's a very detailed description on page 5-8 on how to test it. The manual # is 24075.

Is the 1996 4 cylinder Geo Metro hydraulic lifter built into the rocker arm?
No, they are not. They are removable, but i do not suggest reusing them. They are hydrolic lifters and have a spring in between them. The following web address you will find them on the page I have posted for you. They are 50% of what napa is asking for them. A really good place to buy engine parts. Your looking at $7 a piece. I would suggest replacing them.

What does the 'check engine' light mean on a 1994 Saturn SC2?
You have a sensor or something wrong in your engine peformance. You need to use a scan tool to scan your PCM or you can use a paper clip to retrieve trouble codes for your car. You have ALDL on 1994 saturns. Assembly line Diagnostic link. Under your dash about where your left knee is when your driving is your ALDL. just take a paper clip and jump the B lead with the A lead. then turn your key to the on position.(don't start just turn key on)your service engine soon light should start to blink the trouble codes stored on your PCM. invest in a manual for your car it will explain how to read and understand the codes. The codes will help pinpoint the problem you are having. The internet has alot of information on this topic too.

How do you put a 93 Geo Metro in neutral when it will not start?
there is a sensor on the brake (so the pedal has to be pushed to shift from park), a cable interlock on the ignition switch (so the key has to be in the run position to shift from park) the interlock solenoid is located at the front of the shifter mount (under the plastic console piece) where it meets the body. there should be a small access panel about the size of a golf ball on the drivers side of the center console. Just below where the drivers knee would be. Take out the screw, pop out the panel, stick your finger (or screwdriver) in the hole. You are feeling for a small plastic rectangle, and is spring loaded. this is the manual release. !!DONT FORGET TO SET THE PARKING BRAKE!! Push the plastic piece toward the front of the vehicle to unlock the shifter. gently, and slowly pull the shifter out of park. I say slowly because you dont want your finger getting caught in anything.
What model years are interchangeable with a 95-96 Geo Tracker gauge assembly?
95-97 I believe. I've had mine replaced (specially built) and it went bad again. Personally I think it had to do with the mechanic more than the parts..bought another one off eBay for about $125. Apparently they don't make them anymore. :(
On all my mechanic work I go to the library the have reference books for everything on every make and model you just can't borrow so I copy what I need.....

you need a starter its going out on you. The clutch switch may need adjustment. There is a switch which MUST be depressed when you step on the clutch. This is a safety feature to prevent the car from lurching forward when you start a car with a standard tranny. On mine, the floor mat prevented the cluch from being fully depressed and activating the switch. A simple adjustment of the switch fixed the problem. Note: the switch is threaded with a small lock nut to lock it in place. Definitely a starter solenoid problem. When your battery voltage is high enough the solenoid will work. When it drops slightly, the solenoid will only produce a clicking sound. Either your battery is marginal (Do a load test/voltage test on the battery) or the solenoid is beginning to break down. If you cannot replace the solenoid separately, you will have to replace the starter.
What is the biggest engine you can put in a Geo Metro?
The two questions you must ask yourself are, "how much work am I willing to do?" and "how much money am I willing to spend?" In my garage is a bone stock 95 LSi 4 Door, my bad weather ride and a highly modified 97LSi with a Donovan Aluminum 601 with a Lineco 4 speed. Any thing is possible with time, work and Millions to Blow.

How do you install a manual transmission on a '97 Geo Metro?
Hi: If you are asking - can you replace an automatic trans for a manual trans...... My very excellent local auto repair shop owner, assures me that one cannot do this. Perhaps someone with a full auto workshop, and the ability to weld and make components that are needed to add the clutch pedal and the manual shifter to the existing chassis, might be able to do this, but there doesn't seem to be a way to just swap transmissions. It's probably cheaper to sellthe one you have and go buy a standard trans Geo. If you just want to replace the manual trans for another manual trans... get the manual from Amazon: For example for Canada: http://www.amazon.ca/Chevrolet-Sprint-Automotive-Repair-Manual/dp/1563924536/sr=8-1/qid=1157645711/ref=sr_1_1/702-2995421-1171233?ie=UTF8&s=gateway I may be replacing my own 97 auto trannie shortly - the old one died at 107,000 km with a rather loud "Bang!" I'll try to add any useful comments about this later. By the way, we love this great little car! Phil.
