The speed sensor itself is located on top of the transmission housing, and it is accessable (though a bit of a reach). Go twords the back of the engine compartment (it's best to look through from the passenger side) If you look straight down from the back end of the fuel injector assembly you'll see a black connector hooked to some wires, right on top of the transmission housing. It's held in place by a single bolt. That is the speed sensor.
To remove it, first unplug the couple (the thing with the wires in it). It snaps in so you'l have to give it a squeeze to get it loose. Then with a 10mm wrench (or close to that) loosen the bolt. Once the bolt is out, grasp the sensor and pull it straight up. It will be oily and will have a gear on the bottom. That gear is spun by another gear inside the transmission. That's how it works.
I would strongly recommend doing some continuity tests with a multimeter. The sensor costs over two hundred freaking dollars.

The light will blink as in a Morse code, count the blinks. i.e. blink, blink pause blink, will be a 21 code. You can find the coresponding problem to the codes in a Haynes or Chilton manual. 21 is the beginning and 55 is the end. Scott

Additional InformationThe answer above is correct for the V-8 models.However, the six-cylinder models are not so equipped and the belt is adjustable/removeable by loosening the two pivot bolts on the back of the power steering unit (you will see the two bolts placed in slots), then loosening the locknut/bolt(located directly underneath the powersteering unit pulley in front of powersteering unit) at which time you can turn the adjustment bolt (located on the driver side of the power steering unit underneath the powersteering fluid reservoir). Turn this bolt clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen.
If replacing the belt, be sure to route it exactly the same (on my vehicle the route is on a label under the hood) or you can cause water pump to rotate backwards, causing problems with the cooling system/water pump(not good for the car or the water pump).

i removed the latch assembly from the console lid then gently removed the latch itself from the assembly, then with some wire and paper clips joined the pieces of the latch together. then i purchased some clear potting/encapsulating compound from the local electronics store, made up a rig from a coat hanger and immersed the broken end of the latch into the compound (time spent making the support rig is well spent). after the compound set with a little time and a hobby die grinder i carved the latch to almost its original shape reassembled it and it works fine... good luck...
