My Haynes repair manual says 5.3 qts. or 5.0 liters.

You should add coolant with the engine off and cool, top off the radiator and fill the coolant reservoir to the cool or cold level. When the system is hot or running it will be pressurized and will be dangerous to open. You can however add coolant to the overflow reservoir at any time.

210 to 220f

It depends on the type of radiator you are referring to.

Cooling systems differ, but most are pretty basic and operate at a set pressure. As the engine warms and the thermostat opens, it allows circulation of the coolant and pushes the hot from the motor to the radiator to cool before re-entering the engine. As the general temperature of all coolant reaches a normal, the pressure increases slightly due to the hotter temperature and a little steam. If its only a small rise in the fluid level of the reservoir and your engine runs at its normal temperature, its probably the normal way its designed to function causing a pressure vacuum that draws into the reservoir if pressure is above normal while at temperature and wept back into your radiator as your engine cools and depressurizes. Beware of an excessive amount entering your reservoir and higher than normal operating temperatures, because this may be a sign of a head or head gasket failing and allowing excess gases and air to escape the cylinder thus pushing the coolant out of your system and into your reservoir.

I doubt very much it will hold.

Once the thermostat has opened, the hot coolant flows from the thermostat housing on the engine into the top of radiator and out the bottom of the radiator back into the water pump.

There is an expantion tank under the bonet it is situated on the blukhead this is were you top up the water there are two marks on the expantion tank a max and a minmum if it is in between this mark it is ok.

Sometomes it is hard to get all of the oil out of the cooling system. However the place that replaced the engine should flush the cooling system until it is clean.

Also if your car has an engine oil cooler , it could be the cooler in the radiator and not have been the engine in the first place.

no bleeding necessary, just run the engine and refill the radiator/reservoir back to capacity.

Locate the radiator; the cap should be in the center top of the radiator, or on the top left or top right corner.,,NEVER attempt to remove the cap if the engine is hot! It will blow SCALDING HOT antifreeze in your face! Unless you suspect the cap is bad, check the fluid level at the overflow tank. (follow the little hose from the top of the radiator.) Many newer automobiles do not have a radiator cap. Coolant is added only through the over-flow bottle.

Here are the basics. There are many problems you may run up against (frozen bolts, stubborn or cracked hoses, rusted clamps, etc)that may need to be fixed or replaced before proceeding: SHut off engine, allow to cool completely. Disconnect the cooling fan, remove negative battery terminal connection. Drain radiator by opening draincock and/or removing lower radiator hose, collecting coolant in a drain pan. Do not let it go onto the ground - bad for environment! Open top radiator hose to allow remainder of coolant to flow out. A few quarts of coolant will remain in the engine block. You will want to totally flush and refill AFTER replacing the radiator to get all the crud out of the system. Unbolt radiator and disconnect any other items still attached (transmission cooler, temp sensor wires, etc.). Remove radiator and replace with new, reattaching all items removed from old radiator. Inspect other items and possibly replace suspects. Reattach hoses and make sure the clamps are tightened without pinching hoses excessively. Do a flush job with water/radiator flush, making sure the water runs clear out the draincock. Instructions for flushing the cooling system are usually printed on the radiator flush bottle. Be sure the heater is on and the engine warms up completely to open the thermostat. SHut off engine and drain as much water as will leave. Fill with 50% coolant mix (Dexcool or equivalent). Estimate water remaining in the engine and add 100% coolant to balance. COmplete fill with 50% mix. Remove air by running engine until warmed with the radiator cap off, adding coolant mix along the way. IF the fluid rises quickly it may indicate a bad head gasket.

Bring your vehicle to a garage is what I would do so you can let it thaw and refill it with antifreeze because there must be water in the radiator

To clean radiator corrosion, first make sure the radiator is cool. Remove the cap, and place a bucket under the radiator to catch the water. Open the drain cock on the bottom of the radiator. When empty, close the drain cock and pour a coolant flush into the radiator. Top it off with water. Replace radiator cap and run the engine for 10-minutes, with the heater going full blast. Turn the engine off and wait until the engine has cooled off. Drain radiator once more. Then, fill the radiator with a 50/50 mixture of engine coolant and water.

It's best to remove the radiator and take it to a shop to have them do it professionally. It usually doesn't cost too much and they can make any minor leak repairs while they're at it. When they're done your radiator will be as good as new. Chemicals and power flushing of radiators will only remove loose material. If you have any compacted sludge in the radiator tubes you will not be able to flush them out without having the professional take care of it for you.

The fan is electronically controlled, and may not run all the time. If it indeed NEVER turns on, check the fuse (under the hood) and test the motor iteslf (they can burn out). Be careful to wait till the car completely cools off before sticking your hands on the fan, as it can start at any time. I suggest disconnecting the negative battery terminal before proceeding with fan work.

I have the 94 with the 3.0. I replaced the original radiator cap with a 16# ventable cap from the auto parts store. Make sure the radiator is full and reservoir tank is at the proper level and then start the car and let it warm up. When you feel the coolant return hose get hot (not overheating the engine), turn the car off. Now open the cap for the reservoir and while looking in, operate the vent on the radiator cap. You should see the air bubbles in the tank. You may want to repeat the process a couple of times to make sure you have it all vented.

Removing a plastic cover on the pillar beside the passenger's seat (beneath the seatbelt exit point) reveals the radiator cap. Ensure the engine is cold before removing. Take care when filling, because water can spill into the cab.
