How do you change the idler arm on a 1999 Saturn?

Changing an Idler Arm on a '99 Saturn is MIGHTY difficult, especially since they don't have one. The '99 Saturn uses a Rack and Pinion steering system, and as such does not have an idler arm.

How do you adjust the clutch in a 1993 Saturn SL?

The 1993 Saturn used a self adjusting hydraulic clutch system on the manual transmission vehicles. As such, the clutch never needs adjustment.

If you're having trouble with the clutch, it is most likely because of a worn or damaged clutch assembly.

1992 std Saturn SL2 won't start Headlights and blinkers work Headlamp radio and trunk light no Battery is new Car cranks but wont start Tested fuses they fine tried neutral start no go.180k mls.?

ANSWER:

When the starter functions properly but the engine doesn't start, there are only 3 possibilities:

  1. Fuel delivery
  2. Spark delivery
  3. Compression

If all three of the above are normal, the engine MUST start.

First, check the fuel delivery. Use a can of starting fluid to test the hypothesis that the problem might be related to fuel. Remove the air cleaner and have a friend attempt to start the engine while you spray a good, healthy stream into the intake. Only spray while the starter is cranking or while the engine is running. If the engine tries to start when you're spraying starting fluid into the intake, but it stops as soon as you quit spraying the starting fluid, you almost certainly have a fuel delivery problem. The common causes are; fuel pump, pressure regulator, fuel filter, injectors or crankshaft position sensor.

Next, (since starting fluid didn't find the problem) check the spark. The Saturn "S" series uses a coil-pack assembly, meaning that one coil is used for two cylinders, and each coil fires when the associated cylinders are at TDC of the compression cycle and the exhaust cycle. Use a timing light to verify that there is, in fact, a spark, and that it is relatively close to TDC as expected. Also, connect a spare spark-plug to one of the plug wires, set it on a solid metal part of the engine, then have your friend "crank" the engine again while you watch the sparkplug to see if you're getting a strong spark. If not, find out why. Usually a faulty coil-pack assembly will result in only 2 of the cylinders misfiring.

Last, run a compression test. Pull the spark-plugs (mark the wires so you'll know where they go), then use a compression gague to find out what the compression is for each cylinder. The compression should be around 85-110 PSI for each cylinder, and ideally the compression shouldn't be more than a few PSI different across all cylinders.

If ALL of the tests looked good, you have done something wrong, since as I indicated above, if you have proper fuel delivery, good spark delivered at the right time and good compression, the engime must start.

Good luck.

Where is windshield wiper control module for 2000 Saturn LS1?

That depends on what you're calling the "control module".

There is a switch that controls where the wiper blades "park". It's inside the wiper motor assembly. In fact, most of the controls, except the switch on the steering column, are inside the wiper motor.

How do you replace the water pump on a 2001 sl2 Saturn?

i just did a pump on a 2002 SL2 5 min before writing this. its not hard . take right side tire off remove plastic splash shield . the small one closest to front on the bottom it was in part behind the main splash shield. just pull back the main shield and pop the small one out . take belt off and drain coolant . the water pump will be just under the ac compressor looking at motor from the wheel well to the right of the main pulley . remove the 3 bolts holding the water pump pulley. they are 10 mm. use a 10 mm wrench put it on one bolt let it rest on the top of the main pulley. this will give you resistance to break the other 2 bolts lose. the last one i put a screwdriver in the open holes and took the last pulley bolt off. then remove the 5 10mm bolts from around the pump. the top 2 bolts were easy to get from the top. then gently pry the pump out. you can also remove the ac compressor not disconnecting the ac lines . and do it from the top the pump was $24.99 at autozone good luck. this is for 1991 to 2002 s series all models.

checked haynes manual to confirm info . solid

How do you refill trans axle Saturn L200?

Check the top of the trans axle, facing the car on your right , red cap that reads transmission fluid.

How do you fill the auto trans on a 05 Saturn Ion?

You don't. There is no place for the average consumer to either check the transmission fluid (no dip stick) nor add transmission fluid.

A mechanic told me it has to be brought to the dealership. There's no radiator cap either.

How do you remove battery on 1997 Saturn sl2?

I just finished replacing the battery! The job requires a 10mm socket and end wrench and an 8mm socket or end wrench. A long extention is also needed. There are two bolts at each end of the hold-down strap and one nut in the middle. The 8mm wrench is used to remove the battery cables. Remove the negative terminal first(black). If your terminals connectors are corroded, a portion of the battery could break-out when you remove the connector. Your Saturn requires a 75-series battery. Luckily Wal-Mart has a replacement that is highly rated by Consumer Reports. The cost is $74.95, with a $9.00 core charge. If you take your old battery to Wal-Mart with you, you'll get a refund for the core on the same trip. The battery must be purchased before getting a core refund.

What causes high erratic idle in 2.4 2004 frontier?

First guess would be the throttle position sensor. Easy to replace. Other possibilities: Bad MAF sensor, EGR valve. Go to AutoZone and have them put their computer on it and give you a code. Won't cost a thing. Look up code on the net and see if you can narrow it down. Good luck.

How do you repair a Saturn ignition switch?

You don't you replace it.

switch removal 1. disconnect negative battery cable 2. remove the steering wheel 3. unplug the wires from the switch, remove the bolts and lift switch off steering column

ignition lock cylinder removal 1. disconnect negative battery cable 2. remove the steering wheel 3. remove the knee bolster and steering column cover screws 4. separate the steering column covers and pull the upper cover up for access to the lock release tab 5. with the key in the acc position, depress the release tab, then pull the lock cylinder straight out and remove it from the steering column.

Sounds easy right? Well, here are a few "details this guy left out. After you have disconnected the battery, and opened up the steering column, put the key in the switch. turn the key 2 clicks to the right (acc position). Here is the important missing detail, Facing the switch, look on the right side of the switch housing for a small (round) hole. It will be almost exactly the size if a wire clothes hanger. Next, get a wire coat hanger and cut it 6" and bend it in half, (this may need to be adjusted). Insert the hanger into the hole. You will need to position the hanger under the back of the lock. once the hanger is under the back lock, you may need to turn the CYLINDER back and forth to get a feel for where exactly the release tab is, you will feel it as you apply downward pressure to the handle part of your home made hanger tool. Now SLOWLY apply upward pressure to the tab inside the back of the lock, and turn the key slightly counter clockwise as you do, pull straight out. IT TOOK ME 3 HOURS TO FIGURE THIS PROCEDURE OUT, BUT I CAN GET ONE OUT IN ABOUT 10 SECONDS NOW. LESS THAN 1 MINUTE REMOVING ALL THE COLUMN AND SO FORTH. !! IT SHOULD!

What is the plug firing order for a 1999 Saturn sl2?

The firing order for the Saturn in-line 4 cylinder engine is: 1-3-4-2

Connect the plug wires to the coil pack (on the front surface of the engine block) in the following order (left to right) 4-1-3-2.

The Saturn has 2 coils, one coil controls cylinders 1 and 4. The other coil controls cylinders 3 and 2.

How do you bleed the clutch in a 92 Saturn?

Where is the crank sensor located on 1997 Saturn Wagon sw1?

These cars don't use a crank sensor - the ignition module watches the electrical properties of the #4 cylinder spark plug and uses that to calculate where the engine is within the mechanical rotation.

If you are having troubles, verify/replace that spark plug and the wiring. In a past experience with this car, it turned out to be the ignition module, located under the coil packs.

How can you tell if your water pump is bad in a 2000 Saturn sl2?

If it is leaking. Fluid will be coming from the right side. Remove wheel and plastic cover behind it. look up and forward to see pully. There is a hole in the bottom of the pump. If you see leaking or streak from leaking . replace the pump.

Where is the oxygen sensor 1 on a 1997 Saturn SL1 and is it hard to replace?

Oxygen sensor #1 screws in to the exhaust manifold just before the headpipe. The hardest part about replacing an oxygen sensor is screwing it out. Sometimes they are a little siezed in from the heat. after you get the old one out, you'll need to make sure you know how to electrically connect the new one. Some of the replacement oxygen sensors have a plug and others need to be spliced in. Just make sure you connect the wires correctly, following the color codes or the directions that came with the replacment sensor. It's relatively easy and a good first auto repair project.

Is there a documented problem of the gears shifting or shuttering harshly on a 2001 Saturn SL?

If you are refering to an automatic transmission Saturn, yes. This happens when the ATF (Auto trans fluid) wears out. Depending on age of your car and number of miles, it might be necessary to change the fluid twice. Recommended service is 30K miles (50K kms). There is a drain plug in the bottom of the transmission. There is an external filter that will also need to be changed. Fill the trans up through the dipstick tube. Good luck.

What could be the problem if the coolant light does not go off even when coolant is added on a 1994 Saturn?

You have an air bubble. The coolant level sensor is high in the block and you need to bleed the suystem of air in order to turn the light off. Not doing so will create hot spots in the engine block and eventual failure.

Where is the alternator located on a 1989 Mazda 626?

passenger side of engine, low, towards firewall seat. i just removed mine, but can't get it out of the engine cavity. may have to remove the tierod, maybe even axle>?

The alternator can be coaxed out from the top by moving a couple of hoses and the wire harness as far towards the driver side as you can. With just the right tilt--it will come out!
