How do you change a power steering rack on vw golf mk4?

I have a VW Golf 2003 made in Brazil, to remove the door upholstery you need to pry out very carefully the cover on the door pull handle. There is a seam where you can insert a thin bladed screwdriver and pry this out gently. There are two snaps along the middle, be careful not to break them. With that part out you can remove the screws holding the door handle. With that removed unscrew two screws at the bottom of the door. These may be the kind that require Torx wrenches (they are in mine) Remove small Phillips head screw that is on the inside of the door, holding the upholstery, about level with the rear view mirror on the door jamb. Then insert a thin bladed screwdriver along the edge of the door upholstery and pry out very gently the snaps that hold the rest of the side panel. This should get you where you need to go.Be careful with the wiring.

On the 2006+ model, aka Jetta V, it is located underneath the passenger side dash in the vehicle foot well. Here's how to remove it: 1. If you look under the dash there are two plastic screws (the big flat top kind). 2. Remove those screws and then pull down the foam cover that the screws were holding up, you will see a rectangle cover. 3. You may have to pull the foam away from other trim, but it is very flexible. 4. The rectangle cover has the word “OPEN -->.”. Slide it open in the direction of the arrow. 5. The filter can be easily removed by just pulling it down.

Remove the inside door panel. Remove the door handle linkage. Remove the door handle retaining bolts. The front door handle will come off.

It's under the bonnet, at the base of the coolant reservoir. There is a 30a strip fuse, and a 20a fuse behind it.

I had the same problem - and thanks to the internet found the solution... Open the front door and the hatchback. Now insert the key into the ignition and start the car. Voila! The alarm is disabled! If this doesn't sound like control-alt-delete, I don't know what does! Now I'm searching to find out how to turn it back on - because, while this stopped the alarm from going off, it also deactivated the keyless entry.

The best thing to di is to get a book from your Auto Part store like Auto Zone, Nappa, Schucks...... they only cost you about $20.00 and are very help full. If you want a book with diagramns I recommend Chilton's. Good luck

First, disconnect the negative battery cable. Then drain the coolant into a pan by loosening the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator. In order to access the water pump, first remove the drive belt, alternator, belt cover, engine hose, heater hose, and radiator hose. Remove the water pump, then clean the engine around the mounts with degreaser. Replace gaskets and spread silicone on the water pump to secure them. Install the new water pump and replace the bolts and all other hardware that had been removed. Refill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of coolant and reattach the battery cable.

The 2001 VW PCV valve can be found on the clean air hose. The clean air hose will go from the air filter housing to the top of the engine.

its normally pink, look under the bonnet there will be a big plastic see though bowl to the left hand side at the back. You should be able to see what colour it is. If its pink you need coolant called G12 you can get it from VW for about £9 a bottle

there should be a little "cap" if you follow it from the rear view mirror and up to the top and it should be 2 or 3 Phillips head screws and that should be it

You need a brake caliper unwinding tool, either a VAG model from Metalnerd, or a universal unwinder (but a 6 piece kit won't work unless it specifies a VAG product). A brake "cube" works if you have the skill to use one. "Cubes" are in the $12 range. -- end comment from 'unitacx' -- I do not have personal experience with thes problem, but am about to. My Golf is presently dissasembled, and will have freshly turned rotors and new pads available for installation this weekend. In addition, my Haynes manual for the VW Golf (and others), 1999-2002 says the pistons have to be rotated to retract them (Chapter 9, pg 9-5, picture 3.6h). As the above link discusses, just how to rotate them is somewhat unclear, but the picture at the top of the link is helpful. If I understand the discussion properly, you can rent this tool from some some auto parts places - I have none in my neighborhood, so I can't comment. If the comment from "animaniac" 6-12-2005 is understood, the piston has two bores in it's surface, which are intended to accept what is technically called a spanner wrench which is used to rotate the piston (evidently clockwise) and make it retract. (See the McMaster-Carr site, and search on "spanner wrench" for a picture of a spanner. My guess is we need a 5480A11 or similar) Note from all the VWvortex discussion: Excess force can damage the piston mechanisms, so don't use brute force on this one. its just as simple as replaceing your brakes on your car, take the tire off, 3/4" socket will do, then take a pair of needle nose pliers and remove the cotter pin, slide the hub off and the brakes are held pretty much buy one spring, it will be obviuos once you get the hub off
