How do you replace the cabin air filter for Lexus gx470?
If you have a 2004-2006 (other years may also be the same), the cabin air filter sits behind the glove compartment in your vehicle. To access the cabin air filter, open the glove compartment as you would normally. On the left side of the compartment, you will see a knob with a retractable string that attaches to the glove compartment (this controls how fast the glove compartment falls when you open it). While gently pushing up on the glove compartment, turn the knob attachment clockwise slightly and then away from the glove compartment to release it. Then push in on both ends of the glove compartment to release the catch triggers that lock the glove compartment movement downward. At this point, the glove compartment will be completely free, so make sure to keep your hand underneath it so it does not completely fall out. You do not need to completely remove the glove compartment, you only need it to be released from the vehicle's dash. Inside the newly exposed area behind the glove compartment, you will see a white filter housing panel. Push in the two clips to release the filter housing. Replace the filter with a suitable replacement, making sure to maintain the position of the filter (filters will not work correctly if they are not in the right position). Place the filter housing panel back into the vehicle. Make sure it is locked in with the two clips. Reverse the steps above to replace the glove compartment.
NOTE: You may find it easier to attach the control level (the retractable string) to the glove compartment before locking in the two catch triggers on either side of the glove compartment.

Do you need top dead center to replace intake gasket?
No. Top dead center on the #1 piston is usually used for timing purposes. The crank shaft and the cam shaft are aligned using the timing chain. Proper timing is achieved manually (by turning the distributor) or by the cars computer. If you have an engine that has a distributor remove the cap and mark the rotor buttons position. Also mark the position of the distributor in reference to a point on the engine itself. It can now be removed and replaced in it's original position - but a timing light is always a good idea for setting the timing. Other than removing the distributor itself other components can be disconnected and the intake can be removed and the gasket changed. Replace everything in the reverse order you took them apart. Good luck with your project.
Is there inexpensive way to check for leaks in the intake manifold?
Yes, while the engine is running (in park) spray gumout/carb cleaner along the egdes of the intake. If the motor runs smoother or better then that tells you the intake is leaking. This, however, could cause a fire. A safer way is to use an unlighted propane torch. Turn the fuel on low and slowly move it along the hoses and gasket surfaces. When the engine speeds up, you have found your leak. if you are not sure if there is a leak in the intake ;a good way is when the engine is at idel carefuly place a rag over the carb or throttle body slowley closing the opening ( hold the rag tightly )while slowley placing the rag over the intaks ; if you notice an increase in RPM then you probley have a vacumm leak; to help pin point the leak use a spray with water and slowley go around the base of the carb ;manifold and vacuum lines when the RPM'S increase check that area for leaks ; cracked vacuum lines ;intake gaskets leaking this should help
Where is the PCV valve located on a 2000 Ford Escort ZX2?
I have a 1999 ZX2 and had a hard time finding the PCV valve as well, but here's your answer: Remove the heat shield from the exhaust manifold. (This is the front of the engine, clse to the radiator.) You should see an adjacent hose going into the engine. Lightly pull on the hose and it will come off, revealing your PCV valve. I have a 2000 ZX2 and find the PVC valve on the right side of the heat shield on front of engine. It was not necessary to remove the heat shield in order to access the PVC valve. Simply remove the hose gently or you will break the adjacent hose. If you should damage the hose the part number is PA6 and will need to acquire through a Ford dealership.
normaly, once you disconect all the clips(front and back) AND DISCONECT THE HOSE, THE COVER SHOULD LIFT RIGHT UP.LOOK AROUND IT AND MAKE SURE YOU DIDN'T MISS ANYTHING.
