Car Stalling Problems

When your car’s engine stops when it’s in idle or is accelerating, then your car has stalled. Almost all stalling problems stem from poor fuel-gas mixture, out-of-tune fuel injection or fuel contaminants.

Why is the car sputtering like it wants to shut off in the middle of the road it loses its power lately the car has been running on empty all the time?

the fuel pick up has picked up all the crap on the bottom of the fuel tank and has blocked the filter change the filter and have 1/4 tank of fuel min and all will be good

97 Eagle Talon Car misfires at a stop light and it sputters when I accelerate. Both spuratic. Car idles low 600RPM No CEL. Happens when car is warmed up. What could cause this Changed SPlgs and AFilt?

On an 11 year old car I would suspect a possible vacuum leak. Check all the vacuum hoses under the hood. Can also be a defective EGR valve. Are you sure the Check Engine light is working? This should trigger the light. Turn on the ignition without starting the engine. Look see if the CE light is on.

Why wont pressure washer keep pressure?

There is no single simple answer. Your manual, or a manual from your manufacturer's website will give you some troubleshooting suggestions. I can detail a list of the most likely problems, but you are not likely to understand or be able to act upon the information without extensive step by step information. And, I don't even know which model and pump you have. Several different pump designs may have some problems more likely then others. Check the nozzle on the end of the wand to make sure it is not clogged. Check that your hose delivers a proper water flow. Most other problems require significant pump knowledge... the unloader can be stuck, the valves can be damaged or full of trash, the key-way could be sheared, the oil end could be "fried"..ie bad bearings, broke pistons or retainers. Seals are not usually the cause of a complete lack of pressure..especially if there is no leaking water.

Why does my car skip when I put my foot on the gas pedal?

you may have a misfire from your spark plugs. They may need changing. Also check your 02 sensor.

Why does car lose acceleration uphill?

Automatic transmissions lose acceleration driving uphill because of the torque converter. The engine turns one side of the torque converter and the other side is splined into the input set of the planetary gears. The torque converter uses fluid to turn the input shaft in the transmission. When the transmission is locked into gear and going uphill the torque converter has to work against power losses from the tires on the road and when the engine is working harder the torque converter cuts or "shears" the fluid and it causes the transmission to overheat. Always make sure you have enough fluid in the transmission

Why Car does not stall even when in gear with clutch fully released?

sounds like you have a serious slippage problem... The fact that your not asking why doesn't my car go anywhere is nothing short of miraculous. a few things could cause this and you need to look at some other facts about the car to determine the cause.

1. worn out clutch plate- new clutch

2. glazed clutch- not the end of the world just gotta wear down the glazing...

3. clutch linkage... i.e. master cylinder, cable or hydraulics, or slave cylinder

again look at the external characteristics like how gentle have you been on the clutch, how many miles on the clutch, does the car react differently in different gears and most importantly look at the design of your drive train as all cars are different.

How do your fix a stubborn-to-remove alternator in a Ford Focus dual cam stick shift?

I really kon't know why you are having a problem. Get a manual on your car from the parts store.

I had this issue when replacing my alternator. My best solution was to remove the wheel and the cover to get to it, this will also come in handy putting the surp. belt back in place and it's pretty difficult with the serp tool. coming from the top.

What would cause a 2004 Dodge 2500 Diesel to lose power and die Will not crank?

I had a similar problem with my Mazda 626. The car will completely stall while driving and can not be started again except after few minutes. It turned out to be my distributor electronic ignition component gets overheated and stop functioning. When it cools off it starts again. Replacing the distributor solve the problem.

Would a body control module shut down a car while in driving motion?

Maybe the igniton control module or the ignition module are making bad contact.

Where is the egr valve located on a 2002 Jeep Liberty v6 3.7?

The EGR on a 3.7l is on the top, driver side, rear of the engine. It is behind the intake manifold.

Why does the antilock brake light come on and the vehicle wont go over 20 tran will not shift out of first gear when this happens brakes are not locked up or engaged?

Youpossibly have a wheel sensor problem. Either bad, disconnected or damaged. There could be a number of things. A code reader can pull the code and troubleshoot accordingly. Do not automatically replace a sensor with out following the troubleshooting tree. Short answer is pull the code.

What makes a 1999 Pontiac Montana van engine stall while driving?

My 1999 Pontiac Montana would seem to "skip a beat" while driving. It then started stalling and restarting, all while driving at highway speeds. My mechanic found that an electrical cable that carried an engine sensor signal was leaning against a hot part of the engine. The cable insulation had melted or worn through, causing intermittent shorts. The shorts confused the engine computer, which then stalled the engine. He simply rerouted the cable and all was fine after that.

What is the cause of stall and surge in compressor?

stall and surge is caused when the flow in the compressor loses enthalpy and static energy so that it does not have enough power to approach the end of the axis; thus it remains in the annolus of the compressor and creates a stall cell. these cells gradually join each other and create stall zones which are rotating about the axis and are some times called rotating stall. if this stage does not get stopped, the stall cells will cover the whole annolus and will stop the fluid flow through the stages of the compressor and finally lead to surge. if surge happens, the compressor will be out of order.

Why does a 1988 Jeep Wrangler stall when you stop?

If its the 6 cylinder, its the carb according to most people I talk to. A lot of them recommend replacing the stock one with a weber (from ebay); good luck with that. On the other side, what I do is use a high quality carb cleaner, spray it right down the throat. Workds great for a while. Also check your vaccum hoses - when they're wrong, your idle suffers.

Why does your Dodge Cummins die going down road?

My car would die after driving 20 minutes because the fuel pump was over heating and shutting off. Full tank 40 minutes. the pressure was good 47psi but only untell it got hot then shut off and I would have to wait 20 to 30 minutes for it to cool again

How do you start your car after it stalls in water?

Water Logged Engine?First, Disconnect battery, and dry the engine and vehicle inside and out as completely as possible. Give attention and time for electrical wiring to dry as well. Wet wiring and harnesses can cause new shorts and burnouts.

Then, see if the engine will spin. You may have to remove the fan to access the crank nut. If it does not turn by hand then there may be engine damage due to water will not compress. This is called hydro-locking your engine. If it does turn then "is the starter locked up" Be sure not to over look diagnosis of electrical related issues due to water.

Lastly if its a stick shift have some one pull you in gear, with fresh oil in the engine of course, and try to get the oil pumping again to achieve some compression.

take all spark plugs out turn engine over a few times then try to start may have to change plugs fuel and oil at least check! I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee that wouldn't start after it rained. The problem was simply water getting onto my battery terminals. I bought a new battery and covered the terminals in a waterproof grease. This may help with your situation. Also, check to see if your distributor cap is cracked, I'm not 100% sure about this idea but give it a shot. If you drive through a puddle sometimes water can get your distributor cap wet of even into the car

I drove through a puddle in a 89' Toyota Camiry and had the car die in motion from a distributor cap that FILLED with water. after ensuring that the engine still turns over, The easiest diagnosis for this is to check to see if you still have a "spark". If there is no spark, the first place to try is the distributor cap, then work your way from there. I was lucky. some mopping up and water dispersant (WD-40) and it runs like a top again.

Ethamax is the best choice if you want to remove water out of a fuel tank without paying a mechanic to remove the tank and do the job for you $$$......!

This is not a complete answer.

If your car stalls in water more than 300mm, 12inches deep, it is possible that water will enter your differential. This is because the cold water cools the diff housing and the air inside, and thus will draw water in the breather pipe. You do not want water in your diff. In this case, you should not have your car rope towed, as this may damage the diff. Have it towed on a trailer, and have the diff drained and re-filled with proper oil. How deep the water is makes a difference.

If there is any chance of water in the cylinders. You need to remove the spark plugs. Turning it over with plugs out should blow out most of the water in the cylinders. I have seen engines that have sucked water through the air filter and into the cylinders. When starting was attempted several rods got bent. Some cars take air in close to the head lights. Some even below the head lights

What is happening in a car engine when their is a oil leak and loss of power?

1 If the oil leak is large enough the engine maybe running low on oil and the pistons are getting to hot and expanding in the cylinders and would cause them to stick to the cylinder walls slowing the vehicle and eventually they will weld together. The wheels may lock very dangerous!

2 Or the oil leak maybe oil leaking into the cylinders and fouling the spark plugs.

If you pull the spark plugs out and they are full of black soot oil is getting into the cylinders. Generally this is by way of a cracked engine block or a leaking Headgasket. Oil in the cylinder fouls the plugs and causes a loss of power.

Either is Serious NEVER drive low on oil. If you did drive while the car was Very low on oil #1 is probably your problem.

How much does it cost to change the spark plugs in a 200 s type jaguar?

How do you adjust the clutch cable on a 1995 suzuki sidekick jx 16valve?

Hold the end of the treaded rod (where it connects to the actual cable) with a pair of vicegrips - this to stop it from turning when tightening the nut. Yes the nut gets tightened to the point that the lever going into the clutch can be moved easily for about 3-4 mm (1/8-5/32") of travel. This 'free play is important - without the freeplay the clutch will wear out in no time at all. Too much free play will cause the clutch not to engage fully and cause the gears to grind etc.
