Car Stalling Problems

When your car’s engine stops when it’s in idle or is accelerating, then your car has stalled. Almost all stalling problems stem from poor fuel-gas mixture, out-of-tune fuel injection or fuel contaminants.

Your 1984 Oldsmobile cutlass 3.8 v6 is stalling at stop lights why?

If you restart the engine and putting it into gear causes it to stall replace the torque converter lockup solenoid as it has gone bad.

If pressing the gas pedal lightly with the right foot while braking with the left foot prevents the stalling (don't do this long term as it can be dangerous and can cause transmission problems and rapid brake wear) you very probably have a bad IAC (actuator) but it might also be a bad IAT sensor or low cooland level or bad ECT sensor or dirty throttle body or sticking EGR valve.

How do you fix the cars carborator when its sucking air?

It is normal for a carburetor to "suck air" when you are starting the engine or while the engine is running. You should stop the engine before repairing the carburetor for safety reasons.

Why is my 92 Mercury Villager just stop running occasionally this can be at any speed I just shift to neutral and start it again and works like a dream but eventually it happens again any ideas?

It could be dirt in the carborator or the timing chain is starting to go, but that usually just dies and the car will not start again. It also could be a problem within the exhaust system.

I have had the alternator changered with no results.

Why does your 1988 mercedez Benz 300 E car turns off while driving?

I have the same problem but what else I experienced is that ralely my can does not satart when I turn the key (does not crank) and in all those situation opening the door of the gas tank and it gets depressurized ,made it to behave normally and there might be a relation which gives a clue.(fuel pump maybe.)

My car turns off when I release the gas pedal after having it depressed for a fairly long time (like in the intersections after riding on highways for a while).

Will bad exhaust make your car stall?

I suppose a bad exhaust can alter the running status of a vehicle, but I'd look at the fuel filter for stalling issues.

Why does a 1998 pathfinder stall when engine is hot?

Definitely check for recalls. I had an idle problem on an 86 Olds Calais that was so bad I had to brake-torque to keep from stalling in any kind of bad traffic. After I owned the car for about 7yrs (and after about 6 useless trips to the dealer who 'couldn't get it to fail'), they FINALLY issued a recall. I do not remember the part and am not even sure I bothered to take it in at that point since I sold it shortly after but with your auto being 1998, if there was one issued, you should be able to find it. Just do a search.

Why is fueling a car while it is running not recommended?

Gasoline fumes are flammable. A running car generates heat and electricity and is more likely to be an ignition source.

Why does a car turns off while driving?

It all depends on what you can notice.

If your dash lights and all other light components stay on its most likely not a battery problem but if all lights do turn off check your battery terminals for corrosion and recharge your battery.

If you are driving and your vehicle stalls or turn off on you while all lights are still one its most likely a fuel problem.

in this case disconnect the battery and afterwards remove your fuel filter you will notice gas leaking while loosing it but let it finish leaking and remove it completely afterwards.

On a clean area shake the gas that's still in the filter to see if its dirty.

if it is dirty you will see a almost black color or brown color. If you notice a brown rust like color it may be a sign your gas tank has corroded which you will have to replace the gas tank and get a new one.

(The fuel pump may have been damaged so you may also have to replace it.)

Replace the fuel filter they are around 15 dollars or less depending on the brand at autozone or other auto parts store.

make sure when you are replacing it that the tightening components are tight or fuel will leak. One way to check if they are tight enough have someone turn the vehicle on and while on park press the gas pedal gradually all the way while you check for any leaks if it doesn't leak it was installed properly if not it will leak so if it leaks just disconnect the battery both terminals and go under and tighten even more.

if the vehicle doesn't turn on after you replace the fuel filter while off keep pressing on the gas pedal and try to turn it on if still doesnt turn on use started spray and spray it on the intake tube of the air filter.

Intermittent stall problem on a 1992 blazer 4.3 stalls at low idle it may start up or might have to squirt gas in carb then run at high rpm for time till it will run normal new fpump and filter.?

it could be that your distributer is not in the corect position. try loosening the distibuter just enought to twist. you will have to try either way(to you or back) but just a hair at a time. this will either speed up your idle revs or slow them down. set at a regular idle. also i suggest to put a tming light on the vehicle. sounds like a timing problem.

What is check engine code P1491 for 2002 dodge ram 1500?

Code P1491 means Rad fan control relay circuit. on a 2002 Ram check the fuse for the ac condenser. it is a 25 am fuse and it is located in row closest to rad and closest to engine. if fuse is blown it will look a milky colour.I know this for a fact as I just had to change mine as it had blown. The condenser fan motor is probably going bad and that is what blows the fuse.

My 1999 villager stalls while driving?

could be a vacuum leak >> http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Your_94_mercury_villager_stalls_when_slowing_down_idle_low_below_800rpm

02 GrandAM at startup the engine starts then stalls or engine starts then idles revs up and down you have to give it gas or it will stall After it runs for a few secs its ok Do I need Plug wires?

Please specify what model year and engine size, or just check for _vacuum leaks_ or a failed IAC. Note that a leaky intake duct (snorkel) from the air filter housing (or a clamp on same) is also a vacuum leak. A failed IAC cannot cause a stall if you press the accelerator (gas) pedal just a bit. Insufficient fuel pressure can also cause this sort of problem. Common causes for insufficient fuel pressure are a failed pump, leaky pulsator or pickup hose, low fuel level, active anti-theft immobilizer, or faulty fuel pressure regulator. A clogged filter can also lead to low pressure, but not at initial startup.

Check for vacuum leaks first. SRSly.

Will an o2 sensor make a car stall?

I do not know the complete answer. Usually, as the oxygen sensor is failing, it will cause the car to run rich, so that your exhaust gets blacker. If it totally fails, then the computer will go into a default mode (limp mode), and without having feedback from the sensor, it will make the car run at a fixed rich setting, again making the exhaust blacker. I am also hunting for an answer since my car is stalling and the check engine indicates a faulty downstream oxygen sensor. Since it is $85, I would love not to have to replace it. yes an 02 sensor will make a car stall replaced both on my 2000 zx3 now fixed much better gas millage to
