Why would battery terminal corrosion prevent a car from starting?
If there is corrosion on the terminals then you will have a bad connection that will not transfer power from the battery to the starter. It is just like disconnecting the cable. Electrical current cannot flow properly through the corrosion,
my first thought would be to check the starter . if you can tap on the starter and it starts after that..you have a bad starter .
Low battery is the most likely cause. You need to find out why the battery is low.

Remove the lighter gauge wires from the solenoid, and connect full battery power (cable) directly to to the positive post on the starter motor.

AnswerIt could be a crack or hole in the air intake hose. Look in between the MAF and the throttle body. When there is a tear in the hose, the MAF gets all out of whack and will start when the motor is cold, but will die when it gets warm. Another symptom is if the motor is warm and you try to start it, it will start fine, but will not idle and will die very quickly. If you do find a tear or hole, all it takes to repair it is some electrical tape to seal the hole.=It took me almost a year to figure this one out! And not one mechanic could help me.My 1990 4runner would start great when cold, but after running a few miles (like going to the grocery store) when I would try to restart it, I would only get a single click from the passenger side of the engine compartment. I went over the entire starting circuit. Main areas to look are- ignition switch, neutral safety switch, and the starter and selenoid on top of the starter.After replacing the starter (not cheap) and a lot of frustration I found that the wire running from the battery to the main fuse box was corroded under the insulation. I slit the rubber with a razor blade, and found it corroded.I replaced it with a cheap battery ground wire (around 4 bucks) and it solved my problem.Note- You may want to get a replacement wire from Toyota, since it has a special connector attached to the fuse box. I just spliced mine where it was bad.

edit. it could be your air compressor for suspension.. mine comes on when i turn my key. runs for a minute and cuts off

Solution: I called a locksmith and he did the following:
1. He squirted WD40 into the lock and inserted a key he made into the ignition. He proceeded to bang the key while in the ignition with the back of the pliers.
2. He then removed the cylinder from the steering column.
3. He then proceeded to remove each pin from the cylinder to clean them and run them across a file to remove any burrs.
4. He sprayed WD40 all over the cylinder and used a thin tool to clean every opening.
5. He then put it all back together and it worked perfectly.
It cost $80 and he guaranteed his work forever. He said most locksmiths will just get it to work without taking it apart to thoroughly clean everything. He recommended that I spray WD40 into the ignation twice a year and move the key in and out repeatedly to keep it in good working order.
sometimes the steering wheel is jammed into a certain position that it will not allow the key to turn. try to pull the steering wheel one way or another while trying to turn the key. Steve
I have the same problem. I heard that replacing the thermostat and cooling sensor will fix it.

First make sure that all battery wires are connected. then directly behind the battery is a (DEAD MAN KILL WIRE). Don't worry it's actually a good thing. It's black and about as thick a womans ring finger. If your battery moves around sometimes it may have pulled it apart. Just plug in the male end into the female end. you should be ok then provided that you have a good battery.

The remote key uses a radio signal to start the car. This means something else can be on that frequency and causing it to start. Could be something in the system itself.

It could be a way of saying "I'm working fine and starting now because you told me to", I've been in a few cars that do that.
Look out for warning lights on your dashboard though because the sound could accompany a flashing warning light, the user manual/booklet that came with the car will have all the details regarding what you need to do when warning lights are displayed.
The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps your doors aren't closed properly, the boot might still be open or your seatbelt might not be on.

You have air in the system - need to find a valve and pump it - on ours is on side of cylinder head looks like a big black button. I didn't realise this until we ran out and my father who had fetched diesel for us told us we needed to get the air out if the system first.
