Did you find the problem with your truck? I have the same problem with my 02 (5.3 l), but it happens only when I have the truck in 3rd gear and happens regardless if tow/haul on or off. Never happens when in overdrive. My mechanic checked the codes and found misfires but found everything in working order. He re-calibrated the crankshaft shaft sensor a few weeks ago. Don't know yet if that cured it or not though...

if you disconnect your battery cables and leave them disconnected overnight, the check engine or maintenance light usually goes off unless there is really something going on in your vehicles system. i did this for my van twice and it works just fine. i was told that the maintenance lights come on at different mileage intervals just as a vehicle precaution for maintenance, and usually there is nothing wrong.

The computer has detected a problem with the emissions controls or something that effects emissions. Fix ASAP. It also can detect when you have not put your gas cap on tightly. The absence of a vacuum in the gas tank will cause the check engine light to come on as well. -Voice of experience. Possibility: When my Bravada had a "check engine soon" light come on it was because the O2 sensors were bad. The next time it came on was because when I had the fuel tank replaced the mechanic forgot to plug a sensor above the tank back in.

if you can not locate the coding for the vehicle's OBD-II then you can take the vehicle to somewhere that offers free OBD readings, such as "advanced auto parts" stores.... they can attach the reader, get the codes, look them up, and tell you what's wrong... right there, for free.

If the problem was correctly fixed by a mechanic or yourself the check engine light should go out after a few cycles (on/off of running). A mechanic usually shuts the light off with diagnosis tools after the work is completed to check that it does not come on again due to the same error as there is no way to permanently shut the light off. The fuse for the horn and the OBD2 diagnostic computer is the same n recent FORD and Mercury models. The computer controls the check engine light. So replacing horn fuse is also isturbing the OBD2 computer

92 is PRE-OBDII, so you'll have to get a GM specific code reader. They aren't too expensive, usually about $35 - $45 depending on where you get them. They include instructions and diagnostic codes. Actually, the 95 was one of the first with an OBDII, so a ODBII code reader will work, but most auto part stores will not check it, even though it has an ODBII (you can lie and tell them it is a 96 and they'll do it). The code reader attaches below the steering column.

There are any number of reasons why a "Check Engine" light is lit. You need to find out what sensor, or sensors, are sending this an error code. You can do this yourself if you have a OBD II reader. This instrument plugs into a receptacle located beneath the steering wheel. It will give you the code. These readers can be purchased at an auto parts store. They come with instructions and will tell you what sensor the code refers to. Then you can effect the repair. These readers allow you to erase the trouble code and turn off the "Check Engine" light as well. All 1996 and later autos made for sale in the USA have this OBD II receptacle in the same location. Very good advise, but the DLC connectors are not in the same location. Yours will be below steering wheel to the right next to center console.

On my 93 suzuki sidekick the check engine light came on at exactly 120000 miles.It can be reset if you take your drivers side speaker out you'll find a switch in there to reset it.If the problem occurs again then you probably have a real problem.If you vehicle is not running any different then I wouldn't be that concerned.

In the owners manual it says the check engine light is related to the emissions system. When my check engine light went on it was because my EGR Valve was clogged and simply needed to be cleaned. There are a lot of threads here and other places explaining how to replace and or clean an EGR Valve. It is a very simple replacement to perform.

On any Jeep/Chrysler up to 1995, all you have to do is put your key into the ignition, DO NOT START, turn it to the on, then off, then on, then off, then back to the on. Very soon you will see the check engine light flash. The first set of 2 flashes should be a "Flash-short pause-Flash-Flash-Long Pause, this is a code 12. Code 12 is very normal and should be there. Watch for other flashes after this one. The finale flashes will be a series of 5 flashes-short pause-5 flashes, which is a code 55 that means all codes have been retrieved. Many people have trouble understanding how to read the codes, if you just write down ALL of the flashes and separate the first 2 flashing numbers and the last 2 flashing numbers then you should be able to figure out what the other flashing numbers are. Same thing as any other car, your on board computer has detected a problem with the emissions control system or other engine controls. Have the OBD codes read to determine the problem

In addition, if the cap on your gas tank has not been closed properly or has been left open when last filling your tank, may cause a pressure difference, which can also cause the engine light to turn on. From experience, even after properly closing the cap, it may take a while for the light to turn off (my guess is that it takes a while for the internal pressure to adjust).
