after 1996 it already came with 134a, and can be purchased at any autozone, pep boys, advance auto, etc.....or even walmart carries it now. you used to need a special hose, or they would sell you a fancy "kit".....but now it comes in a spray can with its own hose and all for under 20 bucks...turn on the ac....snap it on the low side of the compressor hoses...(it should only fit on the low side anyway, so dont put to much thought into it here) then squeeze the trigger until it stops taking it. Enjoy.

Parts are cheap (gaskets) but the labor is what will hurt the wallet. Just shop around and see what prices youll get. I could take a guess from 200-500 to repair

A shop charges by the hour, and "the book" for this repair is about an hour. The seal is $10 or so. Make a few calls and compare rates, and ask about how soon they can do the work and what kind of warranty they offer on the repair.

A transmission mount may have gotten soaked with fluid, and the situation cited might necessitate replacing that as well. Maybe $30 there, and it can be put in when the seal is replaced since the mechanic is right there. Add .1 or .2 hours for the mount. Again, call a few shops and tell 'em what you have observed and ask what's up.

If it has the 4.3 ltr engine, the intake manifold is notorious for leaking at the back of the engine where you cannot see it. Try using a mirror at the rear of the intake manifold and look for wetness. Replacing the gaskey is the best fix.

Have you looked for the fuel cut off switch? Its usually a red or black rubber coated switch by the left side of the passenger seat. It is a large switch about an 1"square with a rubber coating, round recess on top. Press the recess on top and you should hear a click if it has tripped. Now car should start. Hope this helps

The wiper motor doesn't turn off until the wiper arm gets to the "park" location. If the wiper motor never detects park, the wipers will stay running.

Currently, their has been some leaked documents spreading quite rapidly across the internet, especially among hackers about the release of Xbox 720 in 2013.

Microsoft left a lot of people hungry for details about its next-generation console system at this year's E3. This past weekend, however, those people had plenty to chew on, courtesy of a leaked document that purports to offer plenty of previously unannounced details on the system.

The 56-page document, which first surfaced in the popular NeoGAF forums, presents itself as a road map for the Xbox system through 2015, including alleged details on the so-called Xbox 720, a unique glasses display, and a focus on cloud gaming.

It's critical to note, however, that no sources have corroborated the information in the document, which seems to come from a 2010 internal planning meeting. Still, it packs quite a wallop.

Many of the tech revelations are fairly standard and have been mentioned by developers currently working with early versions of the hardware. 2013 launch? Check. 3D support? It's in there. "Always connected" internet connection? Blu-ray drive? Lofty sales goals? Yes, yes and yes.

The document goes several steps further, however. Running on a Windows 8 foundation, the new box aims to be even more of a living room staple than the current Xbox console, allowing users to record TV content in the background like a DVR. It also details improvements to Microsoft's Kinect camera system: better accuracy, improved voice recognition, and support for motion tracking for up to four players.

That's not all for Kinect. Initially spotted in May by Nukezilla, the alleged roadmap discusses a "glasses for Kinect" initiative called "Project Fortaleza," a pair of Wifi-enabled, augmented reality glasses, according to the document. Marked for a 2014 launch, they would allegedly be radio/4G-based mobile devices that users could take with them, much like Google's Project Glass. Via Xbox Live, the document says, the glasses would offer "real-time information on people, places and objects."

In 2015, claims the document, Microsoft plans to shift focus to cloud gaming -- a move that could signal the next Xbox (or a smaller set top box afterward) as the final hardware product from the group, as the document says consumers will "never need to upgrade hardware again."

Of course, this could all be an elaborate hoax put together by someone with too much time on their hands. Microsoft, while refusing to comment about the document, did have it taken down from the sharing site Scribd via Covington & Burling LLP, a major IP law firm that represents Microsoft. That move, of course, has given the rumors springing from the document more traction.

Microsoft has experienced these sorts of next-gen console leaks before. In the days before the Xbox 360 was announced, details from a market research company study leaked out, showing some of the ideas the company was considering for its next-generation system. Ultimately, the company decided to go in a different direction.

First, you must remove the freon gas from the ac system. This is usually done with a vacuum pump. If the system is already empty, then you can proceed to the next step. Next, it is usually easier to remove the compressor from the car and put in a vise or on the workbench. The next step would be to remove the clutch assembly. It is usually held on with a nut. Remove the accumulated dirt from around the threads first. A note of caution here: some of these are left handed threads, so be careful. You will have to hold the clutch assembly from turning while you remove the nut. After the nut is removed, you will need a clutch assembly puller. Many of these are nothing more than a bolt and nut combination that threads into the clutch assembly. Then a bolt runs through the center to push against the shaft of the compressor, forcing the clutch to move away from the compressor, and off. After the clutch is off you can remove the shaft seal. It is usually held into the front of the compressor with a large retaining ring. You will need a special pair of pliers that have the appropriate ends on them to grip the retaining ring. The rings usually have small holes in the ends so that the pliers can grab hold of the ends of the ring. Then you would squeeze the pliers to compress the ring which makes it small enough to remove from the housing. At this point, you can remove the seal. Clean the area where the seal goes and then install the new one. Reverse the procedure to reinstall the retaining ring and clutch

paying attention that everything is as clean as possible. When installing the clutch, make sure that you have the proper air gap between the clutch plate and the hub. This varies by manufacturer but is usually around .015

to.025 thousandths of an inch or so. Try not to lose any of the oil from the compressor while working on it. Installing plugs in the holes will help. Apply some compressor oil to the seal when installing. Reinstall compressor to vehicle. Suck down the system with a vacuum pump for an hour or so.

Reinstall the appropriate amount of freon gas. Check system performance and if ok, shut off engine and perform a leak test of the system. If you do not have a tester, you can use soapy water. It will bubble if there are leaks. This is a general repair statement. Good Luck with the project!

Generally speaking, if the engine is an inline 4 cylinder then it has a timing belt. V6, V8 and other "V" configuration engines usually have a timing chain. Your Astro with an I4 (inline 4) cylinder engine has a timing belt. Available from most auto parts suppliers - just tell the salesrep the make, model, year, and engine size.
