Where are the oxygen sensors located on 2001 Montero sport?
Looking in under the hood, The first sensor is on the left side (pasanger side) under the spark plugs near the rear of the engine by the firewAll. It will be sticking out and looks very similar to a spark plug. It will have a wire connected to it. From the same view you can see the CAT converter. The second sensor i guess is after the CAT converter and is mounted horizontal. I recently took my montero in to auto zone for diagnostics, it gave O2 errors. Im not sure which sensor is bad or even if they are the same. If anyone has any answers or suggestions, email me at stevejlack@hotmail.com

Feel the heater hoses in engine compartment if one is hot and other cool try flushing heater core.
i also have a 2002 galant and it is experiancing the same problem...when you open you drivers side door there should be a small panel that you can pop off that is located on the side of your steering wheel mounting...open that and find the fuse that has a 75 on it...there should be a diagram on the plastic cover you took off...make sure that isn't loose....that is the only thing we have checked so far so make sure that isn't it.

The Owner's Manual says the gap is noted on a decal in the engine compartment. I'd rely on that.
The gap is also cited in the Owners Manual as .052-.056 (around page #261)
When I finally found Motorcraft brand plugs for my 2001, there were 2 different gaps cited at the parts store. I ended up not having to change the factory gap of about .055
AnswerMy Chiltons and the spec given to me at NAPA with the plugs said 0.053-0.056" for 1998 3.8L. The Autolite Platinum 2 plugs were not sized to this either.

AnswerIf you go with the bosh platinum 2 plugs you don't have to worry about the gap, they come pre gapped and work like a charm. I am really pleased with them in my 98 3.8l.

the check engine light comes on when one or more of about (500 to 1000) computer regulated components either begins to fail, is getting abnormal readings for its purpose thus the check engine light comes on to symbolize that their is a problem. you have to find out what type of problem it is by getting an engine diagnostic, in which they hook up a scan tool pull the trouble code/s and then test components related to the set code to see which are malfunctioning. make no mistake this will cost you about $90 unless you know a diagnostic tech. autozones free check engine light package will not tell you whats wrong it will only pull the code as stated in the above sentences, this does you no good as it does not tell you which part requires replacement. and they will guess do to their inexpertise which if you listen will cost you alot more money than just handling it with a diagnostic. Cylinder misfire(s),the spark plug is firing at the wrong time and that will cause the engine to run rough.

New HeadlineYou have to remove the inside door panels. follow the door mechanism from the front to the back (You won't be able to see it at the back) What I did was to cut a small hole (1-2 inches) near the back of the door to be able to see the rod. I found that were the rod connects to an "L" shaped part the "L" was bent outwards (toward the outside of the door).
