What kind of oil and how much do you need for a 1996 Toyota Camry v6?
Toyota likely recommends a 5W-30 (viscosity) oil for your 1996 Toyota Camry. It should 4 or 5 quarts. When changing the oil, put in 4 quarts, run the engine and check for oil leaks (drain plug and oil filter) and shut the engine off. Check the oil level on the dipstick in 15 minutes or so. This will indicate whether an additional quart is needed. If you live in a very warm climate (Florida, etc.)you could also 10W-30 or 10W-40 oil without any adverse affects. It is probably wise to use a non-synthetic oil in an engine of this vintage.

Do computer check, some parts stores will loan you the computer to check your car. Check for spark at he plugs, pull a wire off one of the plugs and have someone start the car, hold the wire close to the plug, one eighth inch, look for a spark, if no spark, do the same thing at the coil, if no spark follow wires back to battery or jump directly from battery, if nothing, pull coil and have it tested at auto supply. If not electric, check for fuel coming from tank, disconnect fuel line and start car, if no fuel it's probably a bad fuel pump.

How do you recharge 1996 Grandam air conditioner?
You will need a can or two of A/C refrigerant from a auto store. Some cities prohibit the sale, but most do not since they no longer use R12 refrigerant. The Grand am has a high pressure port and low pressure port. Never ever charge from a high pressure port the can can explode and cause damage. You can tell the difference because they have plastic caps on them. The high pressure side is red, and low pressure side is blue. On the grand Am you may have to lay under the front side of the car.. depends on the engine size and make...on a v6 series II, Look up and you will see the air conditing hose running across with a blue cap on it. you can;t do this with the car running it gets too hot and the fan is right there.. Remove the blue cap..place the hose from the can on to the nipple of the port.. YOu pull back the colllar on the charging hose and snap it onto the port. Open the valve of the can, besure the can is upright. You want to charge with the gas of the refrigerant and not the liquid. start car and turn on the air conditoning to max. The can will start to get cold as the compessor draws the refrigerant from the can. Usually one can will do it ..maybe another half ..if it is very low. Close the valve of the can when done. Turn off the car, and then remove the charging hose from the port and put the blue cap back on. If this doesn't do it..you either have a bad leak or a bad compessor in the system.

Do fog lights help in heavy snow?
Some people seem to think so, but I absolutely don't. Driving really slowly is the only thing that helps in really heavy snow. I've been blinded many a time by people that use fog lights in addition to regular lights, and here in Norway it is forbidden to do so.
How do you by pass the anti theft system on a 1996 Grand AM SE?
the dealership will say theres now way to do this but there lying, heres wat to do.im not sure if this is how its on a 96 but heres what i had to do to my 99. first remove the cover over the stereo it should pop right off, then remove the stereo by removing the three 7mm bolts that hold it in place. pull the stereo out and set it aside but dont unplug it, now look to the left and you will see three wires in a cheap crappy black cloth tape. remove it and you will see a black, yellow and white wires. if you have any doubts that about the cords look up your wiring system on bulldog security. ok now start the car, with the car running snip the yellow wire and your done just cap off both ends of the wire. now the security light will come on and stay on. the reason this works is because the car sees it as a malfuction instead of a theft because the car was already on. that should do it all you have to do is ignore the security light lol, but she'll start every time now. hope this helps, good luck
Why is your 6 disc CD stereo display blinking on your 2002 ford focus?
I believe that is an anti-theft device, there is a thin peice of plastic that when you push a button it pops off and when that happens, you can't turn on the CD player. The light stops blinking too. So don't worry about it , it's fine.

The most common cause of this condition is a failed crankshaft position sensor. If you have a tachometer or a scan tool (not a code reader) check for an RPM reading while cranking. An RPM of 0 while cranking usually indicated a failed sensor. If you crank the engine for 30 seconds and if the crank sensor is bad, it will set a PCM code which you can check for using any OBDII code reader.
If you must replace the crankshaft position sensor, I recommend the following procedure to avid great difficulty that can be caused if you break the sensor off in it's bore:
1) Unplug the electrical connector and move the wire clear of the area.
2) Get a fire extinguisher handy. You won't need it, but safety is important.
3) Remove the bolt from the sensor.
4) Try to very gently twist the sensor. If it twists, remove it and install a new one. Otherwise continue:
5) Use a torch to head the sensor and the metal around it to a high temperature. The sensor should catch fire and produce a small yellow flame. Allow it to continue burning until step 6 is complete.
6) Gently twist the sensor back and forth as you pull the sensor out of its bore. The melted plastic will act as a lubricant.
7) Extinguish any flames.
You should coat the new sensor with silicone dielectric (tune-up) grease before installing it. Always verify that you have adequate ventilation before working with fire.
How do you replace brake pads on a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT?
Changing the brake pads on the grand am gt requires the removal of the wheel. Once the wheel is removed, you will need to use a 1/2" impact socket to unscrew the bolts located behind the caliper (what holds the brake pads). There are two of these bolts to remove. Once those are unscrewed, remove the caliper and let it hang from the brake line. From here you can take out the brake pads, and the rotor as well if you need to change those. The brake pads can be replaced in the same configuration as the ones already in there. To put the caliper back over the rotor, you will need to pushe the hydraulic cylinders back to allow room for the unit to slip onto the rotor. This can be done with a scissor-like tool you can get at a car parts store. -Zim
I wouldn't let the caliper just hang from the hose as the hose could get damaged,i put a block off wood or whatever underneath to support it to take the wieght off the hose.I also use a c-clamp to push the hydraulic cylinders back.Hope this helps.Good luck.-Chuck
Where is the coolant plug so i can flush out your 1995 grand am?
Drain plug on the radiator? Bottom/bottom backside one side or the other, may be a wing nut, hex nut, some cars even have an Allen wrench fitting. You can get a T fitting that goes into one of the heater hoses. Just cut the hose and install then open the radiaator cap and connect a hose to the T fitting.

What if your 2002 grand am keeps cutting out and is shifting hard what could be the problem?
the tranny fluid may be low or need to flush tranny
***These transmissions are prone to failure when abused, at all. The problem you are describing sounds like intermittent failure of the EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) system within the transmission. This will require diagnosis/repair by a qualified mechanic. Do not have the transmission flushed, transmission flushes are not necessary and can damage your transmission. Even automobile manufacturers recommend against flushes - The only necessary periodic maintenance on an automotive transmission is regularly scheduled changes of the transmission filter & fluid.
