There are several things that can cause your 1988 Cutlass supreme to stall out while driving down the road. The most common cause is a malfunctioning fuel pump.

Not if the engine is original and has more than 100,000 km on it. In that case, just use a high viscosity 20W-50 standard oil. Synthetic oil is expensive and is of no benefit in an old engine. If the engine has had a full, quality re- biuld, then use synthetic oil, and you'll get a longer life from the engine.

Answer It's pretty easy, at least the rear bearings. You lift the car. Take the wheel off. Then take the drum off. This will be a pain. I found that if it's stuck put some penetrating lube where the drum meets the bearing assembly in the middle, engage the parking brake, then take a rod(like a tire iron) and put it between the lug bolts. You can actually get the hub/bearing to rock back and forth separate from the drum. There's a little bit of play around the lug bolts. That and banging it with a mallet should get it off. You remove the bearing/hub assembly mounting bolts through the holes in the hub plate. I guess some years have nuts on the back, mine didn't. Then you should be able to pull the hub/bearing assembly out. I'm still working on that as mine's stuck in. From Cowbot: I am at this moment performing this operation.... the drums came off easy but a rubber mallet or a hammer tapping around the outside of the drum can help get th drum off. I have it off but still don't see how to get at the bearing.

Use a slide hammer and a puller attached to the studs - similar to a harmonic balancer puller.

The bearing is pressed onto (and off) the axle shaft .

Insert the axle shaft ensuring the splines engage at the differential, and tap the rest of the way in

with a soft faced hammer.

The turn signal flaher unit is attached to the steering column just above the brake pedal. You have to remove 2 plastic shields with Phillips head screw driver in order to expose. It will be held with a clip and you will have to lay your head on floor and look up to see it. The emergency flasher unit is located in glove box (dash mount) and you have to revove tray insdie glove box to get at it and fuses. No tools required just lift out the tray. Hope this helps.

The 3.1 engine has a crankshaft sensor behind the crankshaft pulley. Remove right front tire and inner splash panel for access. There is a second sensor on the back side (firewall side) of the engine above the oil pan on the block- near the center. Difficult to each. Bad news if you break this sensor since it can be brittle and difficult to extract if it breaks.

The most simple answer is to look at the second digit of the VIN. If its a "3", then you have a Cutlass model, if it is a "4", then you have a 442 model.

It depends on what kind of car you have. If the key fits in the steering column and you have an air bag, take it to a garage as yu can deploy an air bag accidentally which most cost around$1000

If Mechanical (Carb) look at the front lower area of engine -- follow fuel lines

The 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 3.1 liter engine starter is located on the bottom of the engine near the back. You can follow the positive battery cable directly to the starter.

Dealer said necessary to cut segment from guide tube to get to the cable.

there is a hose coming from bottom of rad up to a housing right under the altenator. take these two 8 mm bolts out of the housing and the thermastat is located inside the housing. I have found that it is alot easier to remove the alt. and the mounting bracket to get to the housing.

the map sensor is on a bracket between the firewall & the inside valve cover. it has a 3 wire plug on it & a vacuum hose that goes to it.

If its a 4-barrel carb, its 310hp. If it has the W-31 option it was 325hp. Both were considered "high compression" engines. There was a 2 barrel carb 350 cu in that had only 250 hp. Hope this helps.

On a 96, there is a fuse panel on the right side of the dash, against the right door.

If you mean it feels like it's losing horse pwr, then you may get lucky and all you have to do is check and service your transmission fluid.

You have to unscrew the motor mount srews.

It is in the fuse box on the driver's side, bottom of the dash.
