it's getting too cool, really

The easiest way I know of is to disconnect the bottom radiatior hose. Just make sure you have a drip pan in place to catch the antifreeze as it comes out. Antifreeze is highly toxic, and just a small amount can kill dogs and other animals if ingested.

At best a lower temp t-stat. should only be used as a TEMPORARY fix while you track down the actual cause of the overheating issue. I would check to make sure your cooling fan is coming on, the flow rate of the radiator to rule out blockage and the water pump to make sure it is circulating the coolant.

Should be at the bottom or rear of the radiator

Yes it is on the lower radiator hose where it connects into the engine block, follow that disconnect it (careful of coolant leaking) thermostat housing should be below that hose. Good luck

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE A CLOGGED RADIATOR WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS GO DOWN TO AUTOZONE OR YOUR LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE PARTS STORE AND AS FOR A RADIATOR FLUSH KIT AD JUST FLUSH YOU RADIATOR.. you should also check your your head gasket you might be mixing oil with your antifreeze, a simple compression test might answer some question for you If your car is automatic, you may have had the trans cooler tube in bottom radiator tank start leaking trans fluid into the cooling water.

You will need to remove the headlamps, bumper skin, radiator support, and unbolt the a/c condensor from the radiator. With some time, a metric socket rail and patience you can figure it out, it's pretty easy. Just make sure you don't damage the condensor or new radiator during repair.

You don't. The only place you pour coolant into this car is into the reservoir, and the piping to the radiator will be sealed by radiator sealant as it's a pretty small diameter tubing - much of the coolant system on this car is pretty small as the engine is small.

Smaller cars are a lot less tolerant of these types of fixes, you'll be lucky if you don't mess up your water pump, radiator, hoses, etc. If it were me, I'd replace the radiator and skip a possibly far more expensive repair.

Many modern cars have splash guards under the engine compartment. Often, these have to be removed to access the radiator drain plug.

It use to be said a high concentrate of gylcol would eat away at gaskets. Not too sure if this is still the case

A radiator is a type of heat exchanger. It is designed to transfer heat from the hot coolant that flows through it to the air blown through it by the fan. Most modern cars use aluminum radiators. These radiators are made by brazing thin aluminum fins to flattened aluminum tubes. The coolant flows from the inlet to the outlet through many tubes mounted in a parallel arrangement. The fins conduct the heat from the tubes and transfer it to the air flowing through the radiator. The tubes sometimes have a type of fin inserted into them called a turbulator, which increases the turbulence of the fluid flowing through the tubes. If the fluid flowed very smoothly through the tubes, only the fluid actually touching the tubes would be cooled directly. The amount of heat transferred to the tubes from the fluid running through them depends on the difference in temperature between the tube and the fluid touching it. So if the fluid that is in contact with the tube cools down quickly, less heat will be transferred. By creating turbulence inside the tube, all of the fluid mixes together, keeping the temperature of the fluid touching the tubes up so that more heat can be extracted, and all of the fluid inside the tube is used effectively. Radiators usually have a tank on each side, and inside the tank is a transmission cooler. The transmission cooler is like a radiator within a radiator, except instead of exchanging heat with the air, the oil exchanges heat with the coolant in the radiator. This helps to remove heat from the transmission.

the overflow bottle has a little indentation on it that can be hooked on the secondary hood latch hook (after removing a few fasteners) this puts it just high enough to fill the engine and allow air to escape there is a bleeder on the system that only the dealer knew about on mine. even an experienced mechanic didn't know about it.

1.drain engine coolant 2.remove the upper and lower radiator hoses, and the atf cooler hoses 3.disconnect the fan motor connectors and ect switch connector 4.remove the radiator upper brackets, then pull up the radiator 5.remove the fan shroud assemblies and other parts from the radiator install the radiator in the reverse order of removal set the upper and lower cushions securely fill the radiator with engine coolant and bleed air

On the 1998 Intrigue it is on the rear side of the radiator, in the lower left hand (driver) side. May need to remove the lower shroud (5 bolts) to gain access more easily.

As you are looking at the engine there should be a screw on top of a steel pipe just to the right of the water pump. Fill the system, start the car and open the screw. Add more coolant to the reservoir as needed until no more air comes out. that's the cliff notes from the Haynes book.

Determine where the leak is and fix it. If it is where the drain seal against the sink, take it out and put a ring of plumbers putty around it and reinstall it. Any other connection is going to have a gasket at the joint or it may be that a joint is not tight enough.

Depends on how hot it got. You can blow a head gasket. The first check is to see if there are combustion gasses getting into the cooling system. Take a sample of the coolant and go to the local radiator shop and request that they analyze the coolant for the presence of hydrocarbons. If they are present then it is most likely that you have a blown head gasket. Another check is to look at the oil of a warmed up engine. The antifreeze in the oil will whip it up into a frothy brown mixture that looks like a milk shake. If it looks like chocolate mousse then you probably have a blown head gasket. Another check is to fill the cooling system to the brim and remove the radiator cap. Do this when the engine is cool. Start the engine and race it. If there is a compression leak and the gasses are going into the cooling jacket then the gasses will displace the coolant. Since the cap is off the coolant will be pushed out of the radiator. You probably have a blown head gasket. You may also smell coolant at the exhaust pipe. It will smell sweet.

It is just beneath the lower radiator hose.

Using your owner's manual or your eyeballs, locate your radiator's drain plug. It could be anywhere along the bottom of the radiator, and will be either a screw plug, bolt plug or a petcock (simple drain valve). Be sure you have your used coolant receptacle in place under the drain before you open it up. Look at the bottom of the radiator facing the engine. I there is none then pull off the lower hose.

Underneath the radiator in the driver side. It is facing inside the engine. meaning, you need to bend the splash mud cover under the car a little bit to be able to feel it....not see it. it is plastic and it shaped as a butter fly screw cork.

Yes, stop leak turns into a thick substance to plug any leaks, when it ends up in the overflow bottle it turns into sludge there.

On my 89 maxima, the drain plug is on rear left portion of the bottom of the radiator. Its a somewhat large plastic screw that you should be able to loosen with your fingers. Look for a small tube facing either backward or downward (possibly with flexible plastic tube attached) The drain plug should be very close to that. Loosening the drain plug to a point will cause coolant to pour out of the small tube, you should not need to remove the plug.
