Serpentine Belts

Raise the back seat and on the drivers side there is an access panel with 4 screws. Remove the panel and there is the fuel pump. Unscrew the retaining ring and disconnect the wires. The pump come right out. Place the new pump in, tighten the retaining ring, hook the wires back up and replace the panel. DONE!

If its a 4.6 1992 to newer. You should be able to read the belt label over the alternator then route it RIBS to RIBS and Smooth side to Smooth side. Use a 1/2 drive ratchet or breaker bar on the tensioner pulley to slack the old belt to remove and install the new one.

you don't. This car has an automatic belt tensioner. The spring inside this part is probably worn out. You have to replace the tensioner.

It is also possible that the belt that is now on the engine has stretched beyond the point that the tensioner can compensate for; the belt may feel tight, but not be tight enough. In that case, of course, replace the belt. The Haynes manual has good instructions on how to do that, and the belt is not particularly expensive.

That is an inappropriate answer...

the correct answer would be on the bottom left front of the engine is the tensionser. remove the bottom cover from the belt and remove the belt. then there are 2 bolts holding the tensioner on the block on the right side of the tensioner one on top and one on bottom. install is reverse of removal.

to the previous answer i have that repair manual and it does not instruct on the pully. in otherwords, if you dont have anything good to say dont say anything at all.

There is an adjuster on the power steering pump. One cannot adjust it as it has an automatic tensioner if the belt is squeaking it is time to replace belt/tensioner or both

There should be a sticker under the hood. It is usually located on the radiator cross bar or on the underside of the hood itself.

If it is making a noise like a spark knock, maybe it is a spark knock.

Basically, a route is a way or a predetermined or planned way in order to reach a certain destination or place.

In short, you need to find the wheel with the square bolt sitcking out the front. It should be one of the top wheels in the main serpentine belt loop. The tensioner was the top left pulley and I used a 5/8" with a large socket wrench and had no trouble.

One of the "wheels" that the belt goes around is also the tension adjustment. When loosened it moves down to release tension. You may have to push and hold it down as well. Initial tension force Fi is needed to counteract the centrifugal force Fc on the belt and thus keep the belt on the pulley. Fi essentially allows the belt to go around the pulley.

if it has never been replaced consider your self lucky you've gotten some goo years out of it. if this is a repetive problem, start looking for abraisions on the pullyes or a

pulley that is out of allignment with the others

mine did that. it was a sympton of an ignition problem which was solved by replacing the entire distributor.

The idler pulley is near the top of the engine. Use a 15 MM (I think) socket on a long breaker bar, and turn the idler pulley arm so that the pulley moves away from the belt. You'll need to put the socket on the nut of the pulley, not on the arm itself. When the pulley is loose, you can pull the belt off. Some of the idler pulley arms have a square hole that accepts a 1/2 inch drive from a socket wrench breaker bar. But be careful. The serpentine belt routing is a little odd, and you'll want a picture to help you put it back. Make a drawing or take some pictures if you don't already have something from GM.
