Serpentine Belts

it goes white belt, yellow belt, blue belt,red belt, brown belt,with 8-10 tabs before getting black belt, whic you can get 9 dans in. i do kuk sool won myself

you need to loosen the tensioner.. ist like a small wheel with some sort of spring attatched..

You don't tighten a serpentine belt. The tension is controlled by a tensioner. If it is loose, then the belt has stretched and needs replacing.

When it is loose, cracked or glazed, or at the interval specified in your service guide.

The car's battery is used to start the engine, once it is running the alternator spins generating electricity to power the car's ignition system (spark plugs,radio,wipers,ect). If this belt slips or comes off the battery will be forced to supply this power and will deplete in a very short time, likely 10-30 minutes.

There should be a routing diagram under the hood. If it is the 2.8L V6 the diagram is on a guard above the belt between the power steering pump and the water pump.

There should be a map, either on top of the radiator, or glued to the underside of the hood. If not, go to a Library and look at some books.

there should be an automatic tentioner on the serp. if not look at the alt it will have slotted holes to loosen up

The serentine belt keeps your cooling fan turning and also helps the alternator which keeps your battery charged. The belt runs everything, power steering pump, water pump alternator as mentioned above as well as the air conditioning compressor and smog pump.

there should be a routing diagram on the hood of your jeep or right above the radiator on the radiator support. if not on those 2 places check the airbox cover... it might be there. good luck

If you can't find anything on the hood keep this in mind, smooth pulleys get the smooth side of the belt, grooved pulleys get the ribbed side. load the belt on using this as a guide and you will get it easy enough, loosen the idler before you do this so it will fit easily before tightening.

I just had my serpentine belt changed the other day. I went to my local Firestone and they replaced it within the hour for around $75 including labor.

You can find a belt at most stores and malls that have clothing available, such as Target.

the nova never had a serpentine belt in 1976, it had 2 belts on it unless it had air conditioning and then it had 3 belts.

It's that little silver plate that should be visible on the left edge of the grill housing (the part of the body that also encases the radiator) when you open the hood.

it is under the power steering pump attached to the bracket that holds the pump.

You have to first remove the fan shroud, then the fan. Take a wrench or socket extention and connect to the tensioner pulley. Turn clockwise to losen the belt and slide it off. Installation is the reverse of removal.

You do not need to remove the fan shroud or fan. Check the diagram in the engine compartment that shows you the belt routing. Locate the tensioner pulley. Using a box wrench or socket wrench if it will fit, turn clockwise and pull the belt off as you get more slack. Work the belt around the fan and remove. Repeat the steps above to install the new belt.

Draw a scetch of the belt path first first. Remove the 4 bolt pully that will not allow the removal of the belt. Install new belt and replace pully.

there is no way to tighten your belt it has an automatic belt tensioner if it is making noise it may be the tensioner or the belt also check to see if it routed correctly

It should have an tensioner pulley on it. A spring loaded arm that puts pressure against the belt as it travels. You may need to replace the pulley and spring if it is failing and allowing the belt to slip off.

no need to loosen the lines. only simple tools needed. move stuff out of the way, and bang it out. watch what your doing and try to understand it. its very simple, look at it one part at a time On a 2.0 litre engine the alternator belt is blocked by the front belt that drives the power steering pump. You need to remove the power steering pump belt to get to the alternator belt. For both belts there is a tension bolt mounted on the power steering pump and the alternator, respectively. Loosne that bolt to relieve the tension on the belts and then remove them. Replace the belts and tighten the bolts to the proper tension. There is not much room to reach the alternator tension bolt so you may have to unmount a few hard powersteering lines to reach it.
