When should I change Cambelt on VW 140 bhp diesel engine?

If you have had the car from new and know its service history then 40,000 miles is the norm. But it may also depend on the engine type fitted, some don't need changing until you hit 70,000 miles. If you don't know the service history and the car has quite a high mileage, CHANGE IT! Far better to pay £150-£250 on a belt change than have to pay for a new top end if it breaks. This is classed as an "unsafe" engine , meaning if the belt breaks the pistons WILL hit the valves and cause a great deal of damage.

What does the ECO light mean in the dash of a 1993 Mitsubishi diamante?

That particular model of Diamante has two transmission modes: Economy and Power. You can switch it back and forth by pressing the button labeled "A/T Mode" near the gearshift lever. Economy mode shifts sooner, which doesn't let the engine rev as high and thus saves gas; it also loses a noticeable amount of power, especially when climbing hills. Power mode keeps the transmission in the lower gears for longer, allowing more accelerating/climbing power but using more gas.

You would like to reset your cars odometer reading which software can you use?

Auto manufacturers go to a lot of trouble to make sure people don't try to fraudulently roll back odometer miles to make a car look less "worn out" than it really is. There is no easy way to roll back an odometer other than to just replace it.

How do you replace the aerial on a 1995 306?

Hi there, I have done this on my 1994 306 - I assume it is the same, you need to drop the lighting panel down ( mine fell out not sure how to do this bit) then you just undo the bolt, remove the connector lift the aerial off from the outside and pop the new one in - its a good idea to clean the paint after removing the old aerial and before you fit the new one to ensure that you get a snug fit, make sure that the seal is intact on the new aerial otherwise it will leak. reconnect the aerial lead, do the bolt back up and pop the lighting back into place. enjoy the radio good luck

How to take off a 2002 cavalier dashboard?

If it is the same as a 2000/2001 - You will need a "Torx/Star" drill bit or driver to remover these screws... (STEP1-)Open drivers door (STEP2-)Use flathead screwdriver to pop-off panel where the fuse door is. (Pop the whole thing off...not just the fuse door) (STEP3-)Unscrew the screw closest to the A/C vent (STEP4-)On top of your dash, there are 2 or 3 screws with the Defrost vent...remove them and the vent (STEP5-)Open passenger door (STEP6-)Repeat step 2 (minus the fuse door) (STEP7-)Repeat step 3 (STEP8-)Open glove compartment (STEP9-)There are 2 or 3 screws on the top perimiter of the glove box...remove them (STEP10-)Using a long screwdriver or nutdriver (not sure anymore), unscrew the two "brass-looking" screws INSIDE the glove box(on the roof of the glove box) they are right in the middle. DONT DROP THEM OR THEY WILL BE GONE FOREVER! (STEP11-)That does it for the top part...just start pulling it off (If you here snaps, its normal. Because it is also held in by clips) (STEP12-)Unscrew the screws all along the top of the front dash trim (STEP13-)Now start pulling the dash trim away from the dash (STEP14-)While it is off, you will have to unsnap the dimmer control (from behind) and unplug the cig lighter (From the back. Also, the actual lighter stays in the dash trim) ENJOY! and yes, you have to do steps 1 thru 11. if not, you will not be able to get to the screws holding on the front dash trim. It sounds tough. After you do it the first time, its no sweat. I have actually timed myself doing it in under 2 minutes...

Do you need a special tool to change wheel bearings?

the answers so far assume that you are dealing with an old rear wheel drive car or a not so new truck ---- the newer vehicles by in large have hubs and not separate bearings which would mean I would have to know which vehicle you are working on to give adviceI assume by wheel bearings you mean the bearings on the inside of your front rotors or rear drums (not axle bearings)? If so, you can get by with a hammer and punch. Most rotors will have a recessed area on the backside of the bearing race. You can tap on the backside of the race to remove it. Make sure to alternate between sides, the idea is to remove it evenly.

To install, I like to use the old race to start the new one, make sure it goes in square and once started you can finish with the punch and hammer. It will sound different once the race seats. Be careful not to strike the roller surface!

Always replace races and cones in matched pairs. Don't mix them up, or put new cones in with old races or vice versa.

All that being said, a bearing tool with different diameter aluminum drivers to help remove and install the new races is really cheap and makes the job much easier.

Also, before installing the races, put them in the freezer for an hour and leave the rotors out in the sun. That will give you an extra thou or two which makes installation that much easier.

Yes, a set of bearing tools with different diameter aluminum drivers is a great help, and I use mine with great success. In addition to the bearing tools, another trick I learned is to use a hard rubber Hockey Puck (available at most sporting goods stores) and use it to drive home bearing races, without fear of damage to either the race or the wheel. It works very well.

Of course, the trick is to start the race or bearing as straight as possible relative to the opening and channel it will be entering. The clearances are usually so tight, that any twist or tilt in any part of the bearing or race will cause some binding, and prevent proper seating of the bearing parts.

How do you remove a door card on a 2008 vw polo?

I havent seen the door of a 08 polo but if its like any car iv taken the door cards off. there will be a series of screws over the door. If you are missing some there are usually some in the door pull if the pop the front off. After all the screws are out you will have to take the door pin off just screws off. Lastly the door will be clipped on on the inside. Just pry the door card away from the door GENTLY careful not to break them whilst popping them off with a flathead screwdriver. good luck

How change cabin filter vw polo 1.4?

On the 1.6 1998 Classic the pollen/cabin filter is under the piece of black plastic just near the windscreen on the passenger side. Theres a black rubber strip to remove first of all holding the black plastic in place. It runs the width of the engine bay up where the washer nozzles would be if the bonnet was down. Lift up the plastic and theres a square filter. Pull it out and replace it.

I cant imagine the 1.4 is any different.

How do you Change belts on cars?

It depends on the belt(s) you're changing. If you're changing multiple belts, then usually one of the pulleys is adjustible and you can loosen the pulley and move it until the belt is loose enough to take off. If you're changing a serpentine belt, then usually there is a special pulley called a "tensioner" that you have to loosen with a socket and breaker bar. Be careful because the tensioner is spring loaded and you are working against tremendous potential energy and it takes some strength to push back against the spring tension and keep a firm grip on the tool so it doesn't snap back and cause injury to you. Trust me, I found out the hard way once :(. Now, if you're changing a timing belt, you have to remove a lot of components to get to the belt. Once you get to the belt, take note of the alignment of the pulleys. This is very important because misalignment of these pulleys can cause severe engine damage. Most manufacturers recommend that you reset the special alignment marks found on the pulleys before installing the new timing belt. Be sure to read the proper service manual before performing such work so that mistakes are reduced and your time doing this is worthwhile. That's pretty much all there is to it.
