check your mass air flow sensor
The torque converter clutch may be staying engaged, causing it to kill the engine when stopping.
Car stalls when gas pedal is pressed?
Have the same problem. 1999 ford escort. When at dead stop, sometimes, when peddal is pressed to go, car dies. Also , lately, chokes and dies at startup. Seems to be when its hot, .....I live in Hawaii. If you found the solution, radio it to me.
Thanks, its been hard to find a similar problem
If the noise goes away when the clutch pedal is pressed down, then the problem is most likely the clutch throw out bearing.
It may be the stainless steel shrouds on the exaust pipe. My 1994 truck will rattle when the engine is at a certain speed. The screws holding the metal together have begun to rust out, and the loose pieces are making the rattle. My 1994 truck does just the same. About 3 years ago I was advised by the dealer to replace the timing chain immediately for about 1600.-$CDN (typical advice for a female...) and shrugged it off ever since. I just replace the engine oil more often. I read a few times that the models around 1994 have a slightly lose timing chain causing the intermittent rattle but are of no major concern. I will post again if my engine blows up after all....
What could be the reason for the engine in your car to shut off while you were driving it?
What year, make and model car? It could be a fuel pump failure (especially when it gets warm with EFI) causing lack of fuel to either injectors or carburetor, ignition module failing under heat, sensor(s) sending bad info to the computer, and on and on. Does it die suddenly, or sputter out? How far does it need to be driven before it occurs? Is it on hot days only, or anytime? What does it take to make it start running again?
It is a 1997 3800 v6 auto transmission. it started making a slight knocking noise at after being driven about 10 miles. the noise didnt occur again until the car was accelerated after being stopped at a stop light. it then made the noise alot louder and longer but when it reached about 25mph or so it stopped making the noise. but a few miles after that it started making the noise when i had my foot on the gas. then i went up a hill so i accelerated a little more to make it too the top and when i got too the top of the hill the engine died. i let it sit for a few minutes then tried to start it again but it wouldn't. NOTE: when vehicle was stopped at traffic light the needle on the oil gauge was towards the bottom of the gauge but when i accelerated it went back towards the middle
its a 1999 Honda civic lx once car warms up it shuts off but turn key off then on an it runs while driving its not on hot days
how to perform a stall test on miltary equipment M1078
Why would a car stall in drive but not in reverse?
Because reverse is a lower ratio gear than drive and puts less load on the engine.
What would cause a car to stall out on the highway?
fuel pump or fuel pump relay...ignition module...crank sensor...most likely fuel pump though. take small rubber hammer along with you and beat the hell out of gas tank while your buddy tries to start car. if car wont start until you wake up pump(which is inside tank) by striking tank, then it is the problem.
A very dirty fuel filter is another possibility.
What causes a car battery to die while driving?
It has to be a dead charging system.... usually a short internal in the alternator
This was exactly what was happenning to my 1989 Ford Bronco 351W engine. After it warmed up, it worked OK. It turned out to be a stuck/rusty EGR valve. I had replaced a few inexpensive parts until I realized what it was. I simply removed it from the block and sprayed the inside with wd40 and attempted to carefully work it back and forth. This fixed it up and its been working fine for a year now. In an extreme case, you might have to get a new one.
You can buy a spray from any local department store that has an autmotive section. The spray is for wet spark plugs and when you dowse them and your distributor cap it clears the water off.
If you try this and the car fires up on those wet days and eminates your problem then you know it results from damp spark plugs and distributor.
If you have never replaced a new set with wires and cap - do it and reap the rewards.
Likely a spark problem. Might be a cracked distributor cap, or faulty wires. Moisture makes insulators more conductive, and reduces the spark that can be generated, therefore no spark in the cylinder
check your fuel pump, fuel filter and air cleaner
Is a gas and oil mix bad for a car?
if it is a four stroke car then yes very bad and i don't know of very many 2 stroke cars out there so chance are slim its good that's for sure
Mixing oil and gas in your car will not have any permanent effects if you do it once, but continuing to do so can cause issuesWhy would a 91 deville not start even after removing and cleaning EGR valve and throttle body?
did you check and clean the air flow meter ,the crankcase breather the idle control valve then the crank shaft sensor ,turn the key do not start it ,take off the fuel cap now can you hear the fuel pump turning ,if no then change the fuel pump relay details found on goggle on were the relay is cost about 20 USD in the UK about £18.
What would cause a 1998 sebring convertibal to lose power and stall while driving and not restart?
It sounds like you are losing spark. This would cause an abrupt to die out. Common causes for loss of spark would be the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor. The crank sensor goes down into the bell-housing and reads off a tone wheel on the flexplate; the cam sensor is in the distributor. Each of these sensors is needed for spark and if one drops out of the engine will die. Hopefully, there will be a code set pointing to one or the other, probably the crank sensor. Sometimes one of these can also short and kill the engine, but it also blanks out the signal of the opposite sensor, and it can't set a code. You may also opt to just replace the crank sensor in that situation and see if that fixes it.
there is probably a blocked pcv valve, the engine isn't breathing and its making to much pressure build up in the engine, try adding a breather to one sife of the valve covers(6or8or4idk) but add breather and check or rpelace pcv valve, this should fix it
sounds to me you have have a Bad "oil pump" along the Ticking noise you mention, First of all has this been going on for awhile? if oil pressure gauge is dropping the Engine is not Pumping oil around the engine block and pistions, I too once blew an pistion from oil starvation due to the oil Pump pressure dropping way too low then it would come back up to pressure like 15 minutes later I found this is a very serious thing that can ruin the Valve train ( Piston, crankshaft, camshafts)$$$ if you damage these, might as well go Junky yard start looking for your "used motor" from a Junk car, if this been going on the only way to know is too Drop your " oil pan " look up underneath your engine see what the suprise is, also another way when you change your Oil if you see any Metal dust in it or anything it could tell you something going wrong inside the engine block , sometimes the "Rockers arms" go loose have to tighten up the "lash" the the rocker arms sometime those can be noisy too ...
SHain Haas' Answer
I would start by checking the oil. It is best in the sunlight. Look for metal. Could be very small specs so take your time and look really good. If so, not good, possible engine damage. Especially if a tick noise is present. If oil looks ok, It is possible that you are not loosing oil pressure. You state that it almost sounds electrical. If you have a spark jumpin off a bad coil or spark plug wire, it could be causing the engine to misfire and want to die, (more likely on a 4 cylinder). It might not be that you are losin oil pressure, but your engine is dyin so as it slows down your oil pressure lowers with it. If you are losin oil pressure and it is fuel injected, it might be wanting to die because of an oil pressure cut off switch. It is made to turn off the fuel pump at low oil pressure to prevent engine damage. If you are losing oil pressure, give it more gas and watch to see if your oil pressure rises, if so then possible oil pump or week oil pressure valve spring. If pressure does not rise then it is possible the pickup tube is leaking for your oil pump or you are low on oil.
Ans 3 - I doubt very much that blocked PCV could cause that. Oil pump or insufficient oil is almost certainly the real problem.
Mentioning the vehicle and engine type always helps to get a better answer to things like this.
What would cause hesitation and loss of power while manually switching gears on a vehicle?
Adjust your clutch cable.
What would cause a 1991 Sunbird to stall right after starting?
Could be a loose or damageed wire harnessconnections at the distributor, coil or alternator. Also, check the intake manifold vacuum for leaks.check all the bolts and nuts are tight and all the vacuum hoses connected to the mainfold are attached properly.make sure there is good fuel pressure.Good luck
My car did the same thing, is your lights affected? If so it's your alternator.
the lights are not affected. i mean they cut out when the car stalls out but isn't that typical?
98 ford 150 engine bucks then stalls when in gear OD light blinks?
Turns out it's the vehicle speed sensor (vss) located near rear of transmission
Why does 89 caprice stalls when turning corner?
It is possible that a 1989 Caprice will stall when turning a corner if the idle is not turned up high enough on the carburetor. It is also possible that the flow of gas is disrupted by a loose fuel pump when the vehicle turns a corner.
Is the crankshaft sensor the same thing as a camshaft sensor?
No. The crank sensor reads the crankshaft location and speed. The cam sensor reads the camshaft.
