Car Stalling Problems

When your car’s engine stops when it’s in idle or is accelerating, then your car has stalled. Almost all stalling problems stem from poor fuel-gas mixture, out-of-tune fuel injection or fuel contaminants.

Your skylark starts up no problem but after running for 5 to 10 mins the engine light comes on and it starts to choke as it wants to stall Any ideas?

This could be caused by a million things. The key to finding out what is causing this is to read the code out of the OBD port. If it's a '97 or newer car, take it to Auto Zone and they will read the code out and advise you what to do next. Call them first to see if they read codes for free, I think they do. If it is older than a '97, search the web for instructions on how to short the contacts of the port to read the code.

What would cause the engine to rock while idling and when it gets to between 55 and 65 MPH?

motor mount? I suspect you have a broken motor mount.

An ignition miss would occure at those times. Especially at 50-55 mph, I would suspect secondary ignition components... Plugs, wires, etc...

The cause for a 1991 Ford Taurus to just cut off while driving is probably a problem with the computer. If the car will start again after about 90 minutes, then check the computer module for code errors.

You may need to adjust the throtle or idle of the car. In older cars this is as simple as tightening a cable. So when the car is just idling it will naturally rev higher and not stall.

What causes a 1990 lebaron to stall when after a complete stop you leave the light and it stalls and then takes a few cranks to get going. 3.0l V6?

This happened to me i checked for codes using self test-i can't remember what number the code was but it was for the crank sensor-it's located in the distributor. Buy the chilton repair manual it explains how to check for codes and has the list. Very cheap in pep boys or autozone, etc.

What causes your rpms to lower up and down with brake on and in gear also almost stall when slowing down or stoped and also when ac is turned on i changed egr pcv hose and valve iacv fuelfilter?

I think I'd start looking for vaccum leaks. New cars are much more reliant on strong vaccum than old clunkers. When you punch the brake pedal, the vaccum powered brake booster can steal needed vaccum from other systems in the car (i.e. fuel delivery or vaccum advance type ignition). In some old caddilacs a small vaccum leak can cause the flapper valves in the climate control system to go all nutty.

With the engine running, spray a mist of lps1 on suspect vaccum lines. Where there is a vaccum leak the liquid will dry rapidly off of the hose. Alternately you can flex some hoses around and listen for sucking sounds when you move them. Replace all leaky or cracked hoses.

Why does your zafira keep stalling when the revs go to idle speed?

If it's a 1.8 with a paper element oil filter....

There is a small hole in the throttle body that get blocked up with carbon deposits. This can cause stalling problems.

There is a small pipe going to the side of the throttle body (about 10 mm in Diameter) remove this pipe and use a carburettor cleaner to unblock the hole.

There is a factory re-work to address this problem, but it's too complicated to spell out here.

A less likely cause it that the throttle body is it self faulty, and needs replacing.

What is wrong when your 1991 Thunderbird spits and sputters when accelerating and stalls when your foot is not on the gas?

Answer

Check to see if the fuel filter is plugged up. It is located under the body of the car, either under the drivers or passengers door(passengers, I think). It is covered by a protective metal cover. The system will probably be charged when you take the filter off, so watch for spraying fuel. I forget if it takes a special tool to take the filter off. Check at your autoparts store. I last changed mine about 3 years ago. Probably need to do it again.

Answer

Anothercause..... is a cracked or leaking nylon type hose, ("about four inches long!") going from the "EGR"valve ("Exhaust-Gas recirculating valve") to the Exhaust system, all as to be found located at the very top rear of the engine, and almost impossible to actually physically view, without removing other polution control items to allow access to this short hose. ....."Mechanic."

check and clean your mass air flow meter!!!

also cheeck to see if the catlatyc converters are clogged. mine did the same and that was my cause..
