How do you turn off the service engine soon light?
Check the owners manual. Its covered in there and I believe has something to do with holding down the trip odometer switch while starting the car. (2000 Odyssey) You don't need to start the engine. Just push in on the trip odometer button and hold it in while you turn the ignition to "ON" (don't start the engine) and wait for about 10 seconds. This will work on 1997-2005 Odysseys. (It may also work with 2006-on but I don't know for sure.)
on the 96 and newer cars and trucks. What is the most common reason for the check engine light to come on in a c230 Mercedes?
The ONLY reason the light comes on is to inform you that there is a stored engine diagnostic code in the computer and that you should use a code scanner to figure out what's wrong. Quite often the problem is simple, like an oxygen sensor. If you read the code and it IS an oxygen sensor, replace both sides. Usually the rear sensors don't give much trouble. If the idea of reading the diagnostic codes is a little overwhelming, go to an auto parts retailer and ask for a little advice. They're usually willing to help connect the code scanner and read the codes with you if they aren't too busy. In the West we have Pep Boys, Auto Zone and Checker Auto that are all usually willing to help and sell parts at reasonable prices, but Pep Boys often try to force you to let them do the work afterward.
What could be wrong when the check engine light displays solid on a 2000 Honda CRV EX?
It means that the computer has detected a condition, has stored a "problem code" and wants you to use a code scanner to find out what's wrong. Code scanners are available at auto parts retailers. You can usually borrow, rent or buy them and retailers will often help you figure it all out in hopes that they can sell you the part. A Check Engine Light could mean hundreds of different things. The only way to know for sure is to use an OBD 2 code reader. Every car since 1996 has a port for this, usually on the driver's side under the dash. The reader can be had for around $100, but you'll also need the repair manual for your vehicle ($20-$30), so that you know what the codes mean. Both of these can be obtained at an auto parts store. Unfortunately, even having the code(s) may not tell you exactly what needs to be repaired or replaced. It may just tell you where the fault lies, narrowing the list of possibilities down to 5 or 10 (if you're lucky). Not trying to sound grim, but the fact is that a dealer or other repair shop will have a much easier time of finding the problem than you will. And for the money you'd spend on the reader and the manual, it'd probably be a wash anyway. But if it's an easy fix, then you may be able to handle the actual repair yourself. As an aside, if you plan on doing your own repair or maintenance work, you'd do well to buy the repair manual anyway. It'll show you how to do everything from oil changes and brake pad replacement to taking the entire car apart and putting it back together again. If you scan the code yourself you may find that it's something as simple as an oxygen sensor. If that's the case, the computer will specify which oxygen sensor has failed. Of course, it may indicate that something else has failed, but in either case, your auto parts retailer will help you figure out which part has failed. At least give it a try yourself first before you pay a dealer to fix something that could be easy and inexpensive to repair in your own garage.
You will have to take your car to a garage to get your EVAP system leak tested. Then replace the defective line.
Can a car cutting out with out a check engine light coming on?

Does your check engine light reduce performance?
That depends on what failure caused the code. Certain failures can cause a safe mode, that would reduce performance to prevent further damage to the engine, exhaust , or trans systems.
Where is the cabin filter located on a 2005 Nissan altima?
Pull the hinges from the bottom of the glove box and pivot the glove box forward. The cabin air filter is located behind the glove box. Unhook the filter retaining clips by pulling them outward and slide the old filter out of the filter. Slide the new filter into the filter housing. The cabin filter has "Up" and an arrow on the side of the filter. The arrow should face upwards. Reattach the retaining clips to secure the cabin air filter in the housing. Move the glove box back into position and push the two hinges into place to secure the glove box.

How do you reset the Service Engine Soon light on a 98 Mercury Sable?
Disconnect the battery and then reconnect it. Or bring it to an auto parts store and they can hook it up to the tester that they have for it, tell you what's wrong with it, and then it will reset.
There is no reset switch. It is reset with a OBD scan tool after the repair.
UNPLUG THE BATTERY FOR ABOUT 15 TO 20 MINUTES AND IT WILL RESET ITSELF. ALSO YOU CAN GO TO ADVANCED AUTO AND THEY WILL RESET IT AS WELL AS READ THE CODES ON IT IF OU HAVE ANY AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT CODES THE CAR IS THROWING
From what diagrams I'm seeing, the PIP( for which that code is saying is malfunctioning) is located in and part of the EEC IV ignition module. This is a metal "box" usually on the fender well. It will have a connector that has 5 or 6 wires. The PIP portion is were only 2 wires apart from the other 3 or 4 go into the module. The wires connect it with the distributer housing. You can take the ignition module in to auto zone or kragen etc..(depending on your area you live). Most will check its function for free.
1999 sunfire and your check engine light comes on and goes off often?
This happened to my 16 year old daughter's car and it was because the gas cap was not on tightly and eventually found out it was faulty.
Why is a 1995 Ford Windstar sputtering and the check engine light on?
Propably needs a tune up. Plugs & wires. This vehicle is 11 years old.
If the check engine light is turning on, the computer has detected a fault and has a code for you to read. The code will tell you what the computer has detected. You can borrow, rent or buy a code scanner at most auto parts retailers. One common scenario is that the engine is given a little more fuel while it's warming up. During that time the throttle body is opened a little extra to allow for a slightly higher idle speed, and the EGR valve is closed or nearly closd. After the engine is warmed, everything goes back to "normal", the amount of fuel is reduced to a more fuel conserving level and a small amount of exhaust gas is recycled into the intake to keep the valves from burning from that lower fuel level. If the EGR valve is plugged or is not functioning properly, the engine will have difficulty idling after the engine warms up. You should be able to verify that through a diagnostic code.
According to the manual it means engine failure sensed in the Electronic Control Unit or a fault in the ECU. This is coming up on my car also but I dont know why. The idle revs on my car when not used for a few hours are also running low and it cuts out. I must drive it first for a couple of minutes for it to stablise. I found a forum called www.pug206.net which seems to be quite handy for hints and tips. best of luck.
I also had this on my 306 (y-reg), first time, just took it to my local garage and they reset the ecu. It came back about 6 months later, it was linking back to the sensors in the ecu, I had to get this reconditioned for about £300.
It is an essential function of the eye that helps spread tears across and remove irritants from the surface of the cornea and conjunctiva. So we would probably go blind if we don't blink.
