After repair, you reset with a scan tool.

Bank 1 is usually on the driver side of the motor and bank 2 is the passenger, sensor 1 is the one on the header and sensor 2 would be after the catalytic converters Bank 1 is the same side as cylinder #1. Bank 2 is the other side.

The Check Engine light is alerting you to the fact that there is a problem somewhere with the emissions system on the vehicle. There is a code stored in the ECU that will tell you what part is being effected. Have the ECU scanned with an OBD2 scanner to retrieve the code,

There are a few different ways to reset the check engine light on this vehicle. You can either have a mechanic use a scan tool, remove the battery cables and touch them together, or fix the problem to get the light to go off.

I've been told that if you disconnect the battery terminals 24 hrs. When you reconnect them it is supposed to reset the the system. You'll just have to redue your presets on your radio.

taking the negative pole for at least one hour will reset your ecm and will turn off the light. If you have performed a throttle cleaning, the mass airflow sensor might have gone bad and will start the light again. You can take it to Advance auto and they will read the codes. mine read p0300 for random cylinder misfire and p0507 for idle control system, this latest mean that the car is idleling higher than 750/900 shich is supposed to be the apprx correct. This is a very common situation in this car. Otherwise you should be good to go. good luck.

Service engine soon and service vehicle soon are two different animals. The former means there is an emission related problem. Unless the cause of the problem is fixed, the light will return just like a stain will show after it is painted. The latter needs to have the body control module accessed to find it's problem.

I had a similar problem--and noticed in the manual that the light may stay on even when service is not needed. It is caused by the gas cap not properly sealing. I opened the gas cap and resealed it and instructed by the manual and no more problems!

you will have to have it scanned to find the problem. once the problem is fixed it can be cleared with a scanner.

and this is not recommended but sometimes works : if you un hook your battery for 30 min or so it resets the CPU to normal standards if the light comes back on you still have a problem

My prob was a bad switch (go figure!) Like 60 bucks at the dealer.

I have an 03 Silverado, Service 4WD Light on. The 1st time the mice chewed the wires by the transfer case. Fixed the problem once the wires were fixed. The 2nd time I checked all fuses, OK, checked all wiring OK, getting power everywhere. I pulled the 4wd switch out, popped it apart since many guys suggested the connector bread and to put a drop of solder on it. Not my problem all my lights were burned so my switch was fried. I bought a new switch $88.00 and nothing worked so I disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and it reset the system and everything is OK. So try the battery disconnect first and save some money but in my case my switch was fried anyway. Good Luck

it is very simple, from the passenger side of the car look way down behind the engine for a two wire connector, there are two I think 10mm bolts holding the VSS or the vehicle speed sensor, this thing is your problem , I got one at a wreckers for twenty bucks because they didn't know what it was, I'm sure it's alot more expensive from the dealer. when you take it out be very carefull not to lose the little drive shaft, its only about an inch long and very small.all your problems with the flashing lights will go away and the speedo will work again. good luck. let me know how it goes and how much for the VSS.

Not to say that this is exactly your problem. Recently, I filled my Saturn up and know that I got very bad gas. So bad it took 2 bottles of dry gas, 2 bottles of STP superconcentrated fuel injector cleaner and a lot of driving to remedy. Consider that it might be your fuel and do the same. Is it doing it mainly when it is damp or wet out? or all the time. Damp or wet could signify a need for plugs, wires, check coils, etc. Also check the air filter. I would lean towards either bad gas or dirty injectors and the first paragraph covers the basic remedy.

Buy a new gas cap replace cap then reset the computer by pullin the computer fuse or dicconecting the battery for a moment.

if you buy a chiltons guide it'll tell you how to access the self diagnostic mode that works in conjunction with your check engine light (cel) ..... using the test connectors in your car your cel will flash out trouble codes that can be interpreted through the chiltons guide..... keep in mind though if it flashes out ,for example ,the code that denotes a faulty oxygen sensor ... it may not be the oxy. sensor but any other part up or downstream of it ... in other words its a basic guide .... youll still have to learn all the parts included in that particular loop ... its better to learn to trouble shoot correctly as many of the components are electrical which most auto parts stores will not take returns on they have been installed

Take your truck to Autozone and rent an OBD-2 scanner (I believe that it's a $50 deposit, but you get it back when you return it). That will give you the codes that are causing the computer to throw a MIL. You can register at explorerforum.com and post these codes, where you're bound to find someone who knows what the code means and possible solutions. Good luck.

I can only tell you what a mechanic told me about my Hyundai (also a '97). He checked the car out thoroughly and there were no problems. He said that sometimes they manufacture the vehicles so that the check engine light will come on at a certain mileage or after so many years have passed, to have the customer go in for repairs or check ups. My mechanic turned it off, but it came back on later. It has no problems he could find. The Check Engine Light comes on when the computer detects a problem with the emissions system. It can be as simple as a loose gas cap, bad spark plugs, or as serious as a bad catalytic converter. One common cause is a bad O2 sensor. Have the computer scanned to retrieve the fault code. That code will help to lead you to the problem. If you have not replaced the plugs and plug wires on this vehicle, that would be a good place to start, especially if it has over 75,000 miles.

what you could do is take it to a auto parts store where they have a diagnositc computer that can be hooked up to the plug under the dash on the passanger side. It will spit out code that can be translated into what is probably wrong with the car, once the problem is fixed the check engine like will turn off. Most places do this for free, such as murray's and auto zone

hold down the mileage reset then turn ignition on and until the InsP turns to ---- let the reset go and walla you can start the car or turn the ignition off

This works on my Corsa, think the same instrument panel is in the astra Not sure if anyone knows but you can reset your service inspection lamp on your Vectra C, Astra H and Corsa C & D with out the aid of any diagnostic tools.

Simply press the trip reset button on the dash at the same time press the brake pedal then switch on the ignition, keep brake and trip pressed for 10 to 12 seconds and hey presto its done!! If you already knew that i will go back and crawl into my shell

It's real simple, Just unhook the negitave terminal on the battery for a minute or so and then hook it back up. This emptys the computer memory. The light should now be off, but it will probably come back on sooner or later. My 1999 Rodeo has had the CEL on for over a year. Could be gas cap, EGR valve being dirty, EGR tube being pluged, clean um with carb cleaner. If the truck also uses lots of oil, check the above EGR problems. Some say ISUZU used the CEL (check engine light) to get owners to bring their trucks in to get high dollar service done on otherwise undamaged trucks. You be the judge. This is not an uncommon problem.

Take battery cables off for 10 mins and reconnect. If that doesn't work it may need a service as simple as changing the sparkplugs will make it go off..........

B12 means you need an oil and filter change, tire rotation, and air filter replacement.

You need to use an OBDII scanner (available at your local auto parts store) to see what the diagnostic code is. Depending on what what fault code is, you either have to fix something or you can clear it and see if the code returns. You can clear the code (turn out the light) with the OBDII Scanner. Personally i bought a ScanGaugeII for this and it's AWESOME! the Haynes and Chilton repair manuals will help you figure out what the code means.
