The codes have to be pulled and cleared using an OBD II code reader. If you have an Auto Zone or an Advanced they might do this for free.

That is the check engine light.

If the engine is not getting enough oil pressure (the reason the light is on), then its life is dependent on just how low the oil pressure is. My 2002 Sunfire Owner's Manual (very similar engine setup) does say that it may be normal for the light to come on briefly during a hard stop, but if the light is staying on, then I would think it would lock up after only a few days. The problem NEEDS to be located and fixed ASAP; even so, engine damage has likely already occured.

The blinking oil message indicates low oiul pressure, could be caused by low oil level. Check engine light coming on probably means the oil level is dangerously low and engine damage could occur.

I suggest to add oil to normal level as soon as possible. If both lights turn off I would suggest doing an oil change and look for oil leaks, unless the oil change is way overdue a low oil level indicates an oil leak or the car is burning oil.

If any of the lights remain on have a mechanic diagnose the problem.

The engine diagnostics have detected a fault. Could just be a transient spike and mean nothing but best to get the dealership to check it.

To re-set Toyota Highlander 'maintenance required' dashboard warning light: Turn on the ignition and observe the odometer window. Ensure that it is set on the totalaccumulated mileage of the vehicle (NOT the trip meter). Turn off ignition. With the ignition off - depress the little plastic switch that changes the odometer to the trip meter and then while holding the switch in the depressed position, turn on ignition (it is not necessarry to start the car). Continue holding the swtich down for 5-10 seconds and you will see the odometer window flash back to zero. Release the switch and turn the ignition off, and it will be re-set for another 7,500 miles.

Disconnect the positive battery cable. wait a few minutes then reconnect the cable. the light should go out, & the codes will be cleared.

Usually repairing the problem will allow the computer to clear the code. Use an OBD2 code scanner to read the diagnostic code and get an idea of what to do to repair the engine.

You can disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and reset the computer. If there are problems still present, the engine light will come back on after a while. Try this first, then if the check engine light persists, there is a problem detected. And that will need the codes scanned.

STOP! If the engine light is blinking it means there is damage being done. A steady light means there is a code you need checked. A flashing engine light is really bad. Pull over and get towed to your mechanic.

Found my problem after checking battery and alternator charge, all fuses, secure connections to conssole from fuse box and removing negative battery post to reset computer. Although it wasn't touched when the problem arose, apparently by barely turning the key back towards the off position problem solved. Must be ignition going bad and I will worry about that later. Good luck if you have the same problem.

It's probably what's called a "pending code", meaning that the computer has stored it for you even though the light goes off. Use a code scanner to find out what's going on. Guessing won't do any good.

There are about A thousand things that will turn the light on, If your car is still running fine it is likely that there is nothing major wrong, You can take it to be checked out, I suggest Auto-Zone for A good running car.

The computer has detected a fault. Although the vehicle drives fine, you mighy want to stop at your local Auto Zone and get the diagnostic codes checked for free. The problem may be minor, but it could lead to something major.

bad injector? or bad motor mounts or one contact in distrubutor is broken/dirty

kia sporatges are great cars with one quirk. they must BE WARMED UP COMPLETELY . if you crank it up and go 1/2 a mile,then shut it off. then say 20 minutes later do the same thing the computer gets confused and will race the engine and also will not let you go into 4 th gear on an automatic until the temp sensor sends the warmed up signal and makes the computer happy. simple fix ,let it warm up completely and the problem will go away.

Borrow or buy an obd2 code scanner tool. It will tell you what problem turned on the light, and allow you to reset it. If the problem is chronic the light will come back on again, and you will have to repair the cause.

To reset, with the ignition off, hold in the trip reset button, then turn the key to position 2 so that the dash lights come on, and the inspection message will change to 4 flashing dashes (----). release the trip button. Job done.

The powertrain control module has detected a possible problem with the emission control system. Have your vehicle scanned for any trouble codes in order to repair the problem.

I have a 1990 Honda accord ex and my check engine light the car goes form a high rev to a low rev when I first turn on the car. Is this a vacume line problem or a voltage problem?
