Generic answer to "How do I reset the oil change reminder on my late model GM vehicle?"

If your vehicle has a DIC:

-Cycle through display items using DIC buttons (arrow or info)e until oil life remaining% is displayed.

-Press Reset button. If that does nothing, press and hold Reset button for several seconds.

Trucks with menu buttons on steering wheel:

-The buttons on the steering wheel and message displayed on instrument panel should be treated as a DIC. Proceed as above.

Aurora with a little door covering buttons to tell you about fuel usage:

-This is the DIC.

Some vehicles have DIC integrated with Radio or Climate Control controls.

With no DIC:

-Turn ignition lock to off position.

-Verify that door is closed.

-Turn ignition to On/Run position

-Move accelerator pedal from closed throttle to WOT and back to closed three times within five seconds.

-Turn key to off position.

Some N-body cars:

-Locate red "Reset" or "Oil R" inside fuse box located at either left or right end of dashboard visible only with front doors open.

-Turn ignition to On/Run and wait a few seconds.

-Press "Reset" button. Note "Change Oil" light begins flashing. If "Low Tire" light flashes instead, press "Reset" button a second time-a.

-Press and hold "Reset" button for 5 to 10 seconds. You may hear three or five chimes or beeps as confirmation of reset and light should go dark.

Early Saturn with red Reset button in underhood fuse box:

-Turn ignition key to on.

-Press and hold "Reset" button for about 7 seconds.

-Look at dash for blinking oil change reminder lamp.

Some 1990s-ish GM FWD full size cars:

-Look for Reset button or Oil Reset button unside glove box.

-Turn ignition on.

-Press and hold button for about five seconds.

Cadillac without DIC or button in glove box:

-You will need to press and hold 2 buttons on the climate control for about 10 seconds but I can't remember (after) so many years which two buttons they are. Check the manual.

Usually a problem in the emission control system - Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem

Chances are it is the transmission control unit (TCU). You should probably take to a qualified / reputable shop and have it scanned to be sure. I believe that auto repair stores (Advance Auto, Auto Zone, O'Reily's also offer free computer scans - if they have the hook-ups for that age of vehicle.

Go to the local Auto store and ask them to read the codes for you. They can tell you what the codes mean and what part to buy. You can also look the codes up online.

Take it to Autozone (or your local parts store) and they will connect the scan tool to your truck, then you will press reset.

Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem most auto parts stores will do this free == You can buy an inexpensive OBD scanner for $50 or so on Amazon. Plug it in, read out the codes, and Google them.

usually its the 02 sensor , but not always, sometimes its a fuel pressure issue

Answer Depends on which vehicle but a sure fire way to extinguish the MIL malfunction indication light is to have the codes read and re-set by the use of a diagnostics machine If you know why it came on, you can simply disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Make sure your radio doesn't need a code for anti theft. Reconnect in 30 minutes, if problem was caused by something that was minor and fixed out of a repair center, it will go off and stay off.

The transmission has an internal problem....It means you need service...Get the codes checked and see what the fault code is then post it....

There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.

I have a 98 mystique, and when the check engine light comes on, I simply disconnect the positive battery terminal for a couple of minutes. When I replace it, the check engine light is cleared. It resets the computer.

Buy an OBD reader on E-bay that gives you diagnostics and can clear codes also,, or disconnect your battery for a couple of minutes and then reconnect!

The computer does tests as you drive the car. It has found a problem in a component and is telling you about it. You will have to check for sure but it sounds like code 23 possible Air flow metering problem.

The casting block number indicates that it could have come from a number of vehicles that have a GM 350 small block from 1985 to 1997. Suburban,corvette, camaro, ect. The same block is also used on several marine applications

On startup it should light up. You are saying it is flashing while driving or running, so I think you can take your car to autozone and have a free engine scan to see what the problem is.

The computer is in the truck, under the drivers side panel behind the drivers seat. There is a button in the computer that when pushed will cause a red or green light to flash. This will be the code. Keep track of how many flashes, and you might actually find a problem. 55 displayed means everything is OK. If that happens, and the truck is running poorly or not at all, I suggest a gallon of gas and a lighter. ( I have an 88 Pathfinder, I KNOW... ) Resist the urge to use a hammer.....
