Why does the check engine light flash when accelerating and the car sputters and jerks?
I had the same problem. It was the timing belt. If your Miata has around 100000 miles on it and the belt has never been changed it's most likely it. Timing belts are expensive to replace. You can change it yourself and save a ton of cash but be prepared to spend a few days working on it. Check out the Miata fan sites for step by step instructions!

What does it mean when the check engine light comes on a Ford Escort zx2?
It means the computer has detected a problem with the emissions system. Make sure your gas cap is tight. If that is not the problem, then you need to have the computer scanned for a fault code. This code you give you and idea where to look. Auto Zone & Advance Auto Parts will do a free scan in most states. The ZX2's are notorious for having temprature sending unit problems...a quick fix to get the light to go off is to make sure the radiator is full first....then if that is ok disconnect the RED or POSITIVE battery terminal for about 5 - 10 minutes. This resets the computer. You'll have to reprogram your radio and clock but the CES light will be out. If it comes back on then have it checked like above.

"Educated" guess at best. They sell parts. The " check engine light" is by far one of the most misunderstood technological advances It is a warning light that is illuminated when there is a problem affecting the EMISSIONS of the vehicle.. Don't let it bother you as it is a good thing once you understand it. One point that was brought up a recent meeting of technicians was that the amount of hydrocarbons is greater when the gas cap is left off than when the engine is running. Hydrocarbons are part of pollution emitted as gasoline evaporates. Going a step farther, one facet of the emission system is the "Evaporative" portion. This is when the fumes from the gasoline are leaking from the system into the outside air. This is one part of the emission system that can trigger a check engine light. I would say a small percentage of the vehicles that have a check engine light are the result of a loose or inadequate gas cap. But understand that many scenarios are possible with the "check engine light" The vehicle's powertrain computer (note that some vehicles have multiple computers aside from the powertain computer) will run a series of self-tests. They will only run under certain criteria. And they are different from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some self-tests or

Where do you find check engine switch on a 1992 Geo Tracker?
Hi, The switch should be down on the left side of the console or to the right of the steering column. The other method of clearing all the codes is to disconnect the neg terminal of the battery for at least twenty (20 ) seconds, yes that means you need to reset your radio and clock but it is an easy way if you still can't locate the switch. You shoud have no trouble locating it unless someone dissabled it and threw it away or somethinmg like that though. Good luck and hope this helps. Steve H.

Don't bother replacing it. I have a 2000 Xterra V6 with 162,000 miles. The knock sensor has been bad for at least half those miles. Other than a code P0325 always stored in the ECM, it doesn't seem to impact performance or mileage. The P0325 error code doesn't even turn on the "check engine" light. Also, replacing the sensor is big job since so much has to be removed just to get to it (for the V6, it's attached to the engine block under the plenum and lower intake manifold). For those with the later years supercharged Xterra's, I would definitely change it if it were bad but not for the 2000 models.
I agree my supercharged 01 frontier is getting no better than 11mpg with the sensor out they charge a very steep price to get it fixed between 400$ and 500. I just changed a knock sensor on the 2000 xterra 3.3 v6 with 257000 miles on it. I put it all back together and it still read that the sensor was bad. The next morning after the car had sat I drove it and really got on it and now it runs like a charm. This was the problem i did not drain the radiator when i removed the lower intake manifold water got into the valve tubes. I dryed them out but some must of got in there,. so be carful when changing the knock sensor "drain the radiator or it will suck."
