How to replace the door handle for 1998 eclipse?

Successfully done on a 98 Eclipse R/S w/o power locks or windows. The replacement exterior door handle typically comes with a new rubber/plastic seal and a new lock cylinder retaining clip.

First, remove the 6 screws holding the interior molding to the door (x2 screws at the hinge, x2 screws at the jam end, x1 screw holding the molding at the interior door handle, x1 screw under a plastic cover in the door well (place to grab when closing door)). Remove the retaining clip from the window handle (if present) and remove the handle.

Gently remove the interior door molding that's held in place by plastic clips. Roll up the window the whole way. Remove the bolt on the jam side of the door adjacent to the handle. This is one of 2 screws that holds the handle on. The other handle is located inside the void within the door. Peal back the plastic barrier on the latch side of the door to gain access to the bolt on the interior side of the door. To remove this bolt, I used vice grips to hold a 1" long 10mm hex bit socket to remove the remaining bolt. Once the bolts are removed, disconnect the x2 connecting rods (x1 for latch, x1 for interior lock switch) and remove the handle.

Remove the lock cylinder from the old handle and install in the replacement handle. Seat the new handle in the door and install the x2 bolts to hold in the handle. Once the handle is secured, reconnect the x2 connecting rods and reinstall the interior door molding, screws and window handle.

Why would you hear a hissing noise on the drivers side of a 1989 on the drivers side?

I'm assuming you have checked for tire leaks! Check for leaking air suspension parts if so equipped. Not sure about a car this old, but lots of the newer Fords had air bladders for struts/shocks (air ride option). These cars had compressors under the hood to replentish air to adjust ride height. Is the car also constantly leaning to that side? Also, check for vacum leaks at the Power Steering booster and other tubes entering and exiting the intake manifold. Last thing I can think of, check that under the dash, none of the climate control hoses for heating and A/C have come loose or torn/cut. Paul Fiander Kingston, Ont Canada I would like to add that the automatic parking brake vacume release is leaking.

How do you change a starter on a 1995 Mercury Villager Van?

Answer

Disconnect the battery cable and remove the battery. Remove the air filter box. Position the mass air flow meter and hoses out of the way. Now, you should be able to look straight at the starter and it's just a matter of nuts and bolts from here.

Where is the fuel pressure regulator on a 2001 Chevy 1500 express van 4.3?

on a 2001 4.3L V6 engine with a Central Sequential Fuel Injection (CSFI) system, it is located on the side of the fuel meter body, which is located inside composite plastic, upper intake manifold. You have to remove the upper intake manifold on both CMFI and CSFI systems to get to the fuel pressure regulator.

Before you start pulling it apart you need to grab a multimeter and start testing everything first to rule out other things. Release pressure in the system before removing anything. Press the needle on the schrader valve with a screwdriver to release pressure, but put a rag over it or you'll get fuel on your carpet. You can take the fuel filter off and turn the ignition to ON to see if the fuel pump energizes. You can pull a spark plug off and crank the motor to check if there's spark. Spark means the crankshaft position sensor, ignition module, etc. are working. Reconnect the fuel filter and turn the ignition back to ON. If the fuel system doesn't energize you may possibly have to change the fuel pressure regulator. Just remember to inspect the rubber gasket that goes under the plastic intake manifold, or replace the gasket if you have the CMFI.

Test the wiring harness above the fuel tank, they usually get corrosion after 10 years and can cause a short in the system. Test the resistance on the Idle Air Control Valve. The IAC valve is located on the side of the throttle body. The resistance should be 40 to 80 ohms for each check. If not, replace the IAC valve. I hope its something as simple as the vacuum line on the fuel pressure regulator. Good luck

How to you install brakes on Chevy Astro van?

Brakes are a very important, so proceed with great care. There is too much to list here, I would recommend buying a Chiltons or Haynes manual for reference. These can be purchased at most parts stores for less than $20.00 new, or for even less on Ebay. I also advise to ask around, one of your friends, relatives, or co-workers may have some working knowledge, but I'd still get a manual.

What would cause a 1994 Astro Van to not start?

It would be easier in this case to list the things that would NOT cause this problem; Seats, interior, glass, and the radio. Things that could cause this problem Begin at the Battery and end at the tailpipe. If the engine does not crank (turn over) battery, starter, ignition switch (and all wiring in-between) If the engine cranks but does not start: *all wiring, connectors, fuses, sensors *Fuel Pump, fuel delivery system *Spark system (sensors, pickups, cap, plugs rotor, wires, plugs) *Electronic systems (PCM, ECM, and all sensors) There are simply too many things that could cause this, the question is too broad and the subject involves at least a thousand factors.

Why 2000 Chevy Astro van heater will not give heat and dashboard temp gauge always stays on the very cold side?

You've got a clogged heater core. It's by passing the coils, and no heated fluid is getting into the system. First get a quality thermostat(Robert Shaw)usually @ Advance Auto. Then have your system back flushed. If that doesn't do it, replace the heater core. It is an expensive job($450-700). If you want to try it, it will take some time and lots of hard work. A Haynes Manual should help. Good Luck! BMannino
