Crankcases and PCV Valves

Basically, a crankcase is the casing for the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine. Combustion produces pressure within the crankcase. Positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valves regulate the vapor pressure within the engine and recycle it back into the engine.

What would cause a white frothy foam coming out of the PCV valve which is brand new on a 258 I6?

If the vehicle is subject to nothing more than just short trips, then this would be normal. It would also cause accelerated engine wear due to corrosion. What you are seeing is condensation mixed with some of the oil/residues inside the engine. Remove the oil cap, and the underside should be just covered with the same. Take the car for a run of about ten miles, and check the condition again, while the engine is still warm. If the condition remains the same, you may have bad intake, or head gasket(s).

How do you replace a PCV valve on a 1994 Altima?

Your PCV valve is located on the valve cover. It should consist of a grommet on top of your valve cover. The PCV sits on top of the valve cover and the top portion has a rubber hose which leads away from it. Remove the rubber hose from the top of the PCV valve and then remove the PCV valve itself. Replace the new one the same way as you took the old one off. it is behind the intake manifold, PITA! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

== == You can access to the PCV value by either removing power steering and the PCV value breather, or by removing the Intake Manifold Air Control. I did the latter.

1) Remove the oil filter, no need to drain the oil, but you will lose a little bit.

2) Remove the oil filter base. Four bolts. A flex head ratchet works best.

3) Remove the IMAC, just four 10 mm bolts. Besides the socket, you'd better has a 1/4 ratchet, and a wobble extension bar to remove the upper 2 bolts from the hood area. Then you can remove the two lower ones from below.

4) Disconnect the two small hoses and one big hose. Keep in mind, the two small hoses are filled with coolant. So wear a safety glass and find two clips to stop the coolant when the hoses are off.

5) After all the pain in the ass, now you finally can access the PCV value. A subby ratcheting 19 mm wrench works best here for the PCV value.

Installation is the reverse. Mine still rattles well after 160 K, although it is kind of oily dirty inside.

Very hard to replace for a "do it yourself project". Hard to reach and plan at least 4 - 6 hours to replace a $1.50 part. Cost at the dealership was $175.00 labor to replace the PCV valve. However, the car does run much better.

Can you use 10w30 oil in mower crankcase?

How do you remove the PCV valve from a 3.8L engine in a 2006 dodge grand caravan?

The PCV valve on these engines has a metal body with a rubber seal

around it. This seal actually locks the valve into a raised plastic fitting

on the rear valve cover. Problem with removing is due to the rubber

seal hardening. I removed the wiper module to gain access but do

not recommend this unless you have some mechanical ability. It is

necessary, if rubber seal has hardened, to grasp the tip of the valve

with vise grips or other locking pliers and then use a large screw

driver to pry up on the vise grips. Put something solid on top of

the intake plenum to use as a fulcrum. The rubber seal will probably

break in half so be sure to remove the broken part from the

raised plastic fitting before installing the new valve. The PCV hose

will also be hardened but can be removed by removing the plenum

end first and then twisting/lifting on the end attached to the

valve cover.

Where is the PCV valve located on a 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme?

You should be able to see a hose from the throttle body to the rocker cover. The hose may be big enough to completely cover the PCV valve so you might not be able to see it. Pull the hose out of the rubber grommet in the rocker cover. You should be able to see the PCV valve once you pull it from the rocker cover.

Where is the pcv valve located on a 1995 Mazda MPV?

Not sure if 1995 is like 1994, but on my 1994 MPV 6cyl (3.0L), the PCV is in the middle of a hose on the BACK of the engine, UNDER the throttle body assembly. Took me a LONG time to find it!

Where is the PCV valve located on a 2002 Ford F-150 4.2L V6 was told that there is'nt one?

I was told the same thing....There IS a pcv valve and it can only be purchased from the dealer. Go to the normal spot for a pcv valve (passenger side valve cover near the firewall) There will be a hose connected there, follow that hose to where it connects at the other end. That is the pcv valve. it also has two smaller coolant lines attached and is held in with two screws.
