The Single Module Engine Controller (SMEC) or Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC)is located on the left inner fender panel behind the battery. Remove the battery cables and remove the battery (negative cable first, of course). The air intake for the engine passes over and cools the module. Disconnect the intake duct at the module. Now remove the screw that secures the wiring harness to the module and carefully remove the harness by pulling straight out. Finally, you can unbolt and remove the module from the fender panel. In Nov, 2002, I purchased a module from a salvage yard in Avon, MN, Martini Auto Parts. Costs $55.00 including shipping. Module worked fine. Suggest you have it checked with a scan tool, sounds like the engine computer has locked itself in theft fuel shut off. If that has happened, the computer will have to be replaced.

Its probably the float in the gas tank that tells how much fuel is left in the tank... its sticking.

You will have to drop the dash down from the glove box over to the ashtray. (It's not hard.) Then right above the fuse block follow the red wires to the relay block. Reach above and toward the back of the car and then feel downwards. The relays are installed so they are not visible. The owner's manual says you can "push the block up and off" and drop the whole block down for easier access. My relay was original and yellow. Replaced the wrong one first but when the emergency flashers quit working it was easy to figure out. I hope this saves someone the hours of frustration I went through thinking the relays were pushed in front to back or upwards and I could see them.
