What is the function of an EGR Valve on a 88 Nissan sentra?
The EGR valve and the EGR sensor work together. The EGR gas temperature sensor is mounted near the EGR valve. The sensor detects the temperature of the exhaust as it moves through the valve. The information is sent to the ECM and in turn the EGR on/off time is regulated precisely and more efficiently. Any malfunction with the EGR gas temperature sensor will set off a code 35 ( Info taken from HAYNES MANUAL)
It would send a trouble code and your check engine light would come on. However your catalytic converter could have slowly clogged-up and not give a trouble light as the computer would compensate with the fuel curve. If this is the case, you may experience a random flash of the check engine light(indicating a missfire). If you have onstar call them imediately when this happens to run a diagnostic. Mine went bad and exhibited this behavior. It was covered under warranty, because it was emissions related. Sometimes the FEDS are good.
How do you replace EGR valve on E150 Econoline 1999?
go to autozone by the part take engine cover off and it on top off the moter on driver side 2 bolt to take off
What does an egr valve look like?
An EGR valve is round on the bottom. A metal L looking piece is located on the top. The EGR valve is important in keeping your car running more efficiently.
What is that diesel sound coming from your gas 3.2V6 Isuzu Rodeo engine?
== == == == Low octane fuel will cause this. Run a tank of high octane (PREMIUM) through it or add a bottle of octane boost in a full tank and it should go away. I have a 95.5 Honda Passport with 3.2 V6. I tried the higher octane method and to no help to my problem. switched to mobil 1 synthetic 5w/20 as recommended by everyone who has had this problem- has helped some- still a low tap sound (apparently this is an inherited problem with this engine- the oil return ports are too small and if the gather any trash/gunk- can become clogged and cause the tapping sound- I do an engine oil flush with every oil change). I will be replacing my timing belt later this week- its been stated that the sound could be timing belt slapping. engine is strong- runs good- have 211,000 miles on it- the tap started about 160,000 miles. It think its way overdue for that timing belt. updated a week later: replaced timing belt (bando brand- factory OEM part) (note- timing belt was worn - considerable amount of slack in belt= hence belt slapping the belt cover and causing a ticking sound) and all related components including water pump and tensioner replaced. I did oil change (Mobile 1 5w20 synthetic) including flush - replaced spark plugs and plug wires (note: used the bosch ultima plugs on last tune up- reduced performance- reduced gas milage considerably- gone back to standard NGK platinum plugs). tap noise is eliminated- engine is running smooth- far better performance and fuel economy noticed in first 500 miles. Before, I averaged about 360 miles per full tank- now I am getting about 420 miles per full tank of fuel. Note: good timing belt replacement information and possible tapping noise in valve train solution found at http://forum.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?t=13189

This depends on how it failed.

How do you replace an EGR valve on a 1999 Chrysler Town and Country with a 3.8l engine?
Well it's located on the side of the throttle body first off. It has two bolts and 3 vacuum lines. One thing I found when I had low power is I inspected the vac lines and found tiny cracks on them. JFYI.
It's simple to change really, if you buy a new one 60 bucks at NAPA it will come with a new gasket. Takes about 10 minutes.
What does scanner code p0404 mean on a 2008 caravan?
P0404 means:Exhaust gas recirculation circuit range/performance

How do you find the EGR Valve on a 1995 Toyota Camry V6?
its bolted to the upper intake or plenum. look about 2" to the left of the throttle body. its staring you in the face! it has a stamped steel cap with a vacuum hose and a 3 wire sensor on it. that cap is mounted to a cast iron body that has the egr temp. sensor screwed into it.
Where is the EGR pintle position circuit located on a 350 Vortec 96?
The sesor is located in the egr valve which is in the center of the engine, on top. just to the left of the thermostsat/heater hose entering the engine

Where is the egr valve located on a 4.7 2005 Dodge Durango?
drivers side rear of engine take air housing off , use 13 mill deep socket w/3inch ext.& air ratchet to remove 2 bolts, then take tire off inner splash panel then 8mm wobble w/24inch ext to take 1 tube bolts loosen other one & pull out as ass. reverse to install kinda pain but doable
If it's blue smoke it may be the piston rings or the valve guides are worn out.
If it's black smoke and you have a carburetor then it's using too much fuel, it's not getting enough air for as much gas that's being added. Could be the air cleaner is clogged real bad or the jetting is too rich.
If it's a diesel then the same thing, it may be running too rich or the injection timing is off a bit.
If its white smoke (steam), the engine is receiving unwanted coolant into the combustion area via a blown head gasket or cracked head.
Where is the egr valve located on 2005 Dodge ram 1500 4.7?
I heard it is located on the back of the Engine. How many miles do you have? If it is for sure the EGR valve the dealership should have it under warranty for up to 50,000 miles since it is a emissions part.
It is on the back on the driver side, kind of hides behind the intake manifold.
The EGR valve controls the recycling of exaust gasses back into the intake in order to regulate NOx emmisions. Since this is a vacuum type device, a leak could effect many other systems. It is tied to the PCM (powertrain control module) so a problem could concievably cause a lot of strange problems, including with your transmission. But any malfunction would most certainly generate an error code, if not a multitude of them.
Where is the EGR valve on a 1998 Honda Civic LX?
under the hood on the engine The egr valve on the 98 civic is (standing in front of the car facing back with hood open) to the immediate left of the aluminum fuel rail that holds the injectors. It is cylindrical, metal with a black plastic top and has a gray connector going to it. The base of it appears open where the solenoid mechanism goes into the valve. I am also having a problem with mine, it is not opening all the way. I think time for a new one.

How do you test egr valve Chevy 5.7 v8?
An exhaust gas recirculation valve, or "EGR" valve, is an emissions-control devise which reduces the amount of nitrogen which escapes into the atmosphere. The EGR does this by routing a portion of the exhaust gases back into the intake manifold, where those chemicals are burned for a second time in the combustion chambers. A defective EGR valve commonly results in a rough idle and a decrease in power and fuel efficiency. Chevrolet equipped its 1990 passengers cars with a ported-type EGR valve. Fortunately, this type of EGR valve is the easiest to test. Difficulty:Moderately Easy
InstructionsThings You'll Need:Apply the parking brake and shift the transmission into either "Park" or "Neutral."
Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
Turn the engine off.
Inspect the rubber vacuum hose that attaches to the top of the EGR valve for signs of cracks or kinks. A damaged EGR hose should be replaced.
Pull the rubber vacuum hose off of the top of the EGR valve.
Press the hose which extends from the bottom of a hand-vacuum pump over the nipple on top of the EGR valve. This is the same nipple from which the rubber vacuum hose was attached to.
Apply 10 inches of vacuum to the valve with the hand-pump.
Position a mirror underneath the top of the EGR valve to inspect the valve's diaphragm. The diaphragm should remain open under the 10 inches of vacuum for a minimum of 20 seconds. If the diaphragm does not open, of if the needle on the hand-pump gradually drops before 20 seconds have expired, the EGR valve leaks and must be
