Clean the throttle body and the two ports at the bottom. There are 2 ports that allows exhaust gases to recycle to the intake manifold. These often get clogged and cause a p0400 code. It it does not work try cleaning the egr valve and connecting pipes. They may be clogged also.
What happens if you dont replace your egr valve?
The car may not be approved at the "car approval station". Maybe you can clean it from soot, it depends on what car you own. EGR= Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is good for the environment.
How do you clean or replace the EGR in Honda Accord 2000 V6 2 Dr?
This must be common as it happened to my 2000 accord at 94K. It is covered by warranty up to 80K I think, and the cost at the dealer is $385. ($98 parts and 3 hours labor) If anyone knows how hard this is I would like to know too. Thanks
Changing the EGR valve is only part of the solution. There is a special reamer that is required to properly fix the problem. Carbon buildup in the EGR passages is the real problem. You have to drill out the EGR passage and insert a stainless teel tube and then replace the EGR valve. The parts and special tool are available from any Honda dealer although the tool may be on back order.
Actually the government forced Honda to cover this under warranty up to 150K miles now. There is a Honda service bulletin that address this: 98-081 issued March 18,2003. I had this done by my local dealer...they also give you a free oil change and replace the distributor and spark plug wires. I've had 2 mid 90's accords and had this problem on both of them around 120K miles. Good luck!
AFAIK, the 98-081 only covered 95-97. From 98-02 only covered 'til 80K mi.
Where is the EGR Valve on a 2001 Ford Focus ZTS?
This is general information for people with EGR valve issues: - The EGR valve- on any car- is a small cast metal assembly connected between the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold. Its purpose is to sense high-carbon emmissions in the engine exhaust. If high enough, the valve opens and recycles the dirty exhaust back into the intake manifold, to be re-burned in the engine. If it's working properly, having an EGR valve cuts your output horsepower by about one third, because you're burning dirty air in your engine. - An EGR valve either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't, it needs to be replaced, not cleaned. Cleaning can remove some of the carbon and other deposits inside the valve, but not enough to do any good. It's also just about impossible to do any real cleaning of the sensor, which is the most important part. - If you know your way around your car's engine, look for a place where the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold seem to be hooked together. What's joining them is the EGR valve assembly. It isn't 'plug and play', but is usually mounted with four bolts. There's also a gasket underneath the assembly to provide a tight seal. If it's damaged or missing, that needs to be replaced, too. - About the only time anyone thinks about an EGR valve is when their car flunks the emmissions portion of the state vehicle inspection. Of course, they want to try to replace the thing themselves, to save money. That can happen, if they are at least a little mechanically inclined and have simple hand tools- wrenches, pliers, etc. Other times, it's better to have a mechanic do it and eat the cost, just to be sure it's done right. - The last EGR valve I replaced was in 1999, on a 1991 S-10 short block. Never having done it before, I fumbled around a little and the job took about 45 minutes. The new EGR cost $57 at Consumer Auto Parts.
Where is the EGR valve on a 1999 Chevy 5.3 engine?
It feeds off the passenger side exhaust manifold. there is a flex pipe that leads right to it. mounted to the front passenger side of the engine. Has a black flex hose that leads straight to the intake manifold. You can see it better if you remove the air cleaner tube and/or filter box.
Does the gmc 2004 envoy have an oil pump?
As far as I know ALL cars have an oil pump. Every car I have ever worked on has had the oil pump INSIDE the oil pan.
What does it mean when exhaust is blowing black and blue smoke?
Black and blue smoke means your engine is burning oil. That is bad. You may have a blown head gasket. That is very bad. You may have worn piston rings. That is also bad. I have no idea why your engine is burning oil but the reason is bad.
Where is the canister purge valve located in a 97 mercury cougar 3.2?

Where is the EGR Valve located on a 2001-2007 dodge caravan?
If you have a 2.4 L engine:
If you look on top of of the engine (where it says 2.4), you will notice a long metal tube coming out of the right side of the engine, if you follow that tube all the way to it's end, it stops at the EGR valve! Hope this helps!
On a V6 it is on the front pass side of the engine, just above the alternator.
Do you need a mechanic to replace an egr valve on a 2004 Mitsubishi galant?
No you do not! th egr valve is located just under the throttle body. there are 2 10mm bolts holding it in, you just need to remove air intake to the throttle body! it is directly under it!
Where is the egr valve located on a 2007 dodge ram 1500 hemi 5.7?

Does a 1967 Chevy 283 have an egr valve?
NO if it has the stock intake manifold, if you have an after market intake manifold like I do, then good luck finding it....I'm still looking for one. Also it should be right up front to the left of the thermostat housing.
Good luck,
Tarlak
How do you clean a Chrysler Town and Country EGR valve?
You can remove it and flush it out with carburetor cleaner, but 90 percent of the time the failure is in the electronic part and the valve will need replaced.
Where can you find the egr valve on a 95 Eagle Talon?
Its just right of the intake manifold. About an inch to be exact. Easy to get to...be careful though, there is a fragile vacuum line attatch to the egr valve. If its old and dry, the line will break. I know, I just broke mine today 03-08-07...
It's on the back of the air intake manifold, you can buy a haynes manual that will show a pic at any car parts store

How do you adjust the idle on a 2000 Impala?
to adjust idle on 2000 impala....Locate the accelerator cable on the throttle body.Have someone push down on the accelerator pedel while you observe the throtle body cable movements. You will notice a stop screw on the throtle body butterfly where it comes to rest against the throtle body.Turn the screw clockwise for more rpm, turn the screw counter clockwise for less rpm. I am not sure if any of the air filter componets need to be removed or not... Should't have to do this.Observe...you can do it...
Idle on 1985 supra oscilates between 1100 and 2000 what can cause this?
if it has a 22re engine, low coolant could be the culprit. a bad head gasket (which actually also causes low coolant) could be the problem too. This model year Supra came with a 5M-GE engine and the idle hunt is most likely an air intake leak. check for air leaks from the air filter box all the way to the throttle. you need to check all the joints in that air duct. if air is getting pulled into that duct, the map sensor info to the ecu will be wrong and the computer will try to adjust the engine idle. found 5 holes in my air duct and car wouldn't even idle till it was fixed
