They are between the battery and firewall under hood on on drivers side.

if there is handle inside pop of screw caps or covers take out screws grab moulding (if you own van ) and quick short pull on either side lift up over lock and pull out botom

The 1998 AX4S transaxle has a total of five (5) solenoids located in different locations

within the transaxle itself. There are three shift solenoids, 1st , 2nd, 3rd. Also there

is a torque converter clutch (tcc) solenoid and an electronic pressure control (epc) solenoid.

All of these solenoids are output devices, placed in an on-off position by the vehicles powertrain control module (computer) at different times.

The powertrain control module (pcm) also receives input from four (4) sensors, the transmission range (tr) sensor, the turbine shaft speed (tss) sensor, vehicle speed (vss) sensor, and the transmission fluid temprature (tft) sensor.

From the information received from these sensors, (input devices),the computer actually controls every thing the transmission does by the solenoids, (output devices).

As far as the actual placement of the solenoids, I would highly recommend a manual!

On my 96 Windstar I removed the air cleaner and tube to the fuel injectors and the Battery and the case..you can then see the valve cover pan on the end of the Transaxle..this cover has to be removed to access the 'shift' solenoids. there are three. the pan can be removed only after you remove the the bar suporting the back of the transmission and it's rubber mount..this will give you enough room to remove pan-cover over the valve body..the three shift solenoids are stacked in a row, white in color,brown if burnt or bad..disconnect wire to each and twist to the left to remove, best to replace all three..p.s. you will need a jack to support the back of transaxle to remove the rear support.....

You may need to press the new bearings into the hubs, and the hubs may be damaged when doing this so additional parts may be needed... look at the new part first but READ UP ON IT... a manual will help with diagnosis and repair, and a shop manual should be available at the local library in the reference section for FREE, make copies of the right pages, good luck...:)

There should be a three piece jack handle set that came with the vehicle. The square end of the the long peice about thirty inches is to be put into a hole next to the license plate. then the lug-wrench has a square notch in it that is used to turn the pole. Turn it counter clockwise t lower the tire and clockwise to raise the tire. after the tire is lowered to the ground you must take the end of the cable and turn it ninety degrees to make it fit through the rim. jody goodyear tire and rubber company

You will need to take off the old part and then replace it with the new. You can do this on your own or with the help of a mechanic.

It does not have one

I had the same problem on my 98 Windstar. I found out that the white vacuum line runs up to the rear ac/heat switch in the climate control in the dash. In the "Blue" area, the vacuum is supplied to the damper switch to make the air blow out the side and top vents. It also runs down to the valve under the van that cuts off the coolant runnig to the rear heater core. In the "Red" area the vacuum is cut off from the damper to only blow the air out the bottom vents. It also cuts the vacuum to the coolant cut off switch under the van and coolant flows through the heater core allowing the air to be warm. The switch is a dealer part. The switch has a built in "valve" inside that either opens or closes the vacuum supply to the white line running back to the rear unit. Usually the rubber piece wears out and does not allow any more vacuum at all. It will get soft and permanently plug the incoming vacuum supply line. I actually took out the switch and fabricated my own new rubber piece to make it work rather than pay way too much from the local ford dealer! Be aware, it must be a hard rubber that you use or it will still fail and not supply the vacuum correctly. Good Luck!

you can not adjust them they are self adjusting if they are loose you have to replace them you can adjust them, you must open up the rear tire, take off the brake drum this might require hammering if they havn't been taking off for a long time, then you will find a a small circulaur object that looks like a gear, turn it so it clicks, every click will tighten it, DO NOT over tighten it, then you will have to lift the small tab and spin the gear thing the other way.

The fuel pump and sending tank are integrated into the tank. Drop the tank to remove and replace it as it is located on the top of it.

wour need wheel cutter, flat blade screw driver, cut some little slice on bolt to but the screw driver,you need to drop the steering colomn but no realese completely,unplud wiring harness connect to your ingnition swich.good luck!!!

There are 2 screws on each side of the housing - take those out and the entire trim & door will slide off the base of the dash.

The reference to 'states', is more or less to draw attention to the areas that might use salt for snow & ice control on their roads.

Ford has no way to know if a Windstar may have ever been subjected to these conditions just by the state it is registered in - heck, even cars migrate to warmer climates.

By the way, my dealer said any buy-out offers are for vans from the 1999 & 2000 model years - darnit! I was hoping for a buyout so I could pickup a loaded Freestar or Monterey. (Even though I love my Windstar and it is a terrific vehicle)

Explanation: while junking one vehicle, are their any parts that I might want to save for use on another vehicle I own, perhaps with minor modification. Here are some examples I can think of: *Battery, *Tires (size match), *Wheels (size matched), Audio System (Radio, CD), etc... A data base for such possible switches would be of value.

I own a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo and had the same problem. I went to a local Isuzu new-car dealer and was quoted a price in excess of $100 to replace the burned-out dashboard lights. I was told that the cost is high because the top of the dashboard has to be removed in order to obtain access to the lights. I did not have the lights replaced. carlpers
