How do you replace power steering hose on 1998 ford escort?

I would suggest you take it to a mechanic. When the hose is separated from it's component it gets air in the system. It is a complicated job to get the air out and requires some special equipment.

Where is power steering oil reservoir on 1988 Mercedes Benz 300E?

It is on the right side of the engine, kind of low, near the front. It looks strange, like a little hat. It is a round plastic knob which is about an inch diameter and that is on top of a large silver metal disk. Turn the black part counter clockwise and loosen it, it will come off eventually, then remove the silver disk and there you will see your power steering reservoir, there will be a min/max contraption in there for your convenience.

How to Replace high pressure power steering line 2001 dodge Dakota?

Well this will be interesting as I will be doing this very same thing to my 2000 Dodge Durango. The basics (according to the Hayes Book) is to.

1. If you have the 4.7L engine, disconnect the "pressure sensor" electrical plug that is on the top of the line next to the power steergin pump. unscree the sensor from the line. Larger engines do not have (nor need) this.

2. get a bucket

3. jack up and remove right front tire

3. disconnect the high pressure line from the Rack (behind the right front tire) (its the one with the very tight bend in it)

4. let it drain into the bucket.

5. While it is dripping....remove the plastic shield that covers the area under the AC Condenser and Radiator. (need room to work)

6. When it is done draining.....unscrew the high pressure line from under the pump.

(optional: you can take the pump off to do this....but then theres about a dozen more steps...although it is an agonizingly hard reach and requires much effort)

7. MAKE SURE THE O-RINGS came out with the hose...if not...get in there with a tiny something and get them....

8. put the O-Rings on the new hose...this is CRITICAL!

9. screw the NEW hose into the pump (opposite of step 6)

10 screw the hose into the rack (opposite of step 3)

11. screw the "pressure switch" back into the line....clip on the wires.

12. Take the Power Steering fluid in the Bucket....and dispose of it properly. DO NOT PUT IT BACK INTO THE PUMP! Unless of course you want to replace the pump, lines, rack. Spend the extra $20 bucks to save $1000's you cheapskate! ha ha ha

13. Fill the power steering resevior up.

14. Start engine......fill with PS fluid until full. turn wheels...fill with PS fluid until full. Drive truck around the block....fill with PS fluid until full.

Done.

How do you remove and replace a power steering pump and reservoir for a 1998 Chevy S10?

I am going to answer this question as if you have the 4.3 Liter V6. The 2.2 will have a similar process but may require less disassembly. You will need to remove the top fan housing, remove serpentine belt, then unbolt the a/c compressor and set it to the side. Now remove the 4 bolts on the back of the fan itself to free the fan from the fan clutch. This will give you enough room to remove the rest of the components. Now you will need a pully puller to remove the pulley from the power steering pump. After you do this, you can unbolt and remove the steel piece that held the a/c compressor and power steering pump together. The power steering pump should be visible now. There are 2 bolts on the back of the pump that are somewhat difficult to get to (ratcheting box-end wrenches work great) that will free the pump. Now there are 2 hoses to remove, one is screwed into the back while the other is simply clamped on. You probably want an oil pan under the vehicle before you remove these since power steering fluid will spill out. Now if you purchased a new power steering pump w/ housing you can now swap them out and reassemble everything in the reverse order. If you have a power steering pump w/o a housing, you have to transfer the housing to the new pump. To do this, you will need to remove 2 stud/bolts from the back. Now you will probably need a vice to pull the old pump out of the housing because there is a rubber seal holding it in. Make sure all new gaskets are in place before reassembly. It's a good idea to at least partially fill the reservoir with power steering fluid before you start putting everything back together. This way you can check for leaks while the hoses are still accessible. Good luck.

Why does your power steering keep randomly going stiff?

Check the steering valves, pump, hoses and cylinders in the power steering system. Make sure the hoses are fairly flexible. The hoses can get a little stiff in hot weather. The pump should draw down the RPM of the engine if it is working correctly. The control valves on the linkage system must be clean and be able to operate smoothly. Dirt can wreak havoc with the smooth flow of a power steering system. Also, make sure the power steering fluid is at the recommended level.

Why will your steering wheel not return to center after turning?

The most likely cause is a bad steering rack. The valves inside the rack could be stuck, broken or blocked. You could also have a bad strut(s) or ball joints that are binding the steering linkage. It could also be bad or broken motor mounts.

Though less likely, it could be the bearings inside the steering column are binding up, or something pressing against the shaft and keeping it from turning freely. The most likely problem is the steering rack.

Are there braking systems that are hand operated on steering columns?

Possibly for physically disabled people depending on your state.
