Why is the bottom of a central heating radiator cold and what can be done about it?
Most likely it's a collection of dirty sludge called magnetite partly restricting water flow through though the radiator. Only way around it it to flush it out. Best way is to drain the radiator , remove it, take it out side & flush it out with a hosepipe. Wet & dirty to do it yourself. Might be easier to get a plumber.
How do you drain the radiator and transmission on a 1995 Buick Century with a 3100 V6 engine?
The radiator has a drain on the lower right. Sometimes it isn;t easy to get to so I take the lower rad hose off. The trans pan has to be removed to drain the trans.
On the driver's side lower rear of the radiator is a PLASTIC 'drain plug about 1 1/2 inch in diameter. After the car is cool, first open the radiator cap ( you need to twist CCW and push down hard at the same time), Then CAREFULLY with a pair of duck bill pliers or the like, unscrew the drain plug..BE CAREFUL!!!! if you break this plug it is a major pain in the a.. to replace it. Drain the coolant into a proper container and don't spill it as animals and kids love the sweet taste of antifreeze right up till it kills them. When the system is completely drained ( including coolant used to cool the trans),replace the plastic drain plug CAREFULLY
Near the waterpunp (passenger side of engine you will see a "fitting " with a nut and another bolt in the nut.... this is a vent device ...lossen the bolt to let air escape when you add the new coolant. There is also another "vent" on the driver side hose from the radiator.. do the same thing here. The object of the procedure is to refill the system WITHOUT any air pockets. Once this is achieved , make sure the two "vents" are closed. Run the engine with the radiator cap off long enough to insure the coolant level stays right to the top of the radiator fill pipe.replace the cap and insure that the reservoir tank is filled to the proper level. Take a ride then let the car cool down again then remove the cap again to make sure the coolant is still up in the fill neck. Please dispose of the anti freeze properly...nasty stuff!!! Most AutoZones will recycle it for free for you...good luck RONCO
How do you get to drain plug on radiator for 98 intrigue?
It's plastic, take's a 1/4" square or an Allen to turn, turn a 1/4 turn then pulls (not easily) straight out. Oring seal, probably should replace that. Careful going back in, the guide pin broke on me trying to turn it a little too far.
There may be other reasons for the vehicle to be overheating but yes if you have let the reservoir run dry then it wont have suction to draw fluid back into the radiator so you will have to fill the radiator as well.
Where is the drain plug for the radiator of a 1993 Isuzu rodeo located?
I believe it is in the center bottom of the rad ;but it is easier to loosen up an end of the lower hose to drain the system. Mark
Where exactly is the radiator drain plug on a 2002 3.4 litter engine Monte Carlo?
It is at the worst place possible on the bottom of radiator. It is sometimes easier to remove one end of the lower hose to drain system. Many times you have to take aprt the radiator shroud( usually a 2 piece) to get at the plug.
How do you check water in radiator how much do you put in?
The cooling system in most vehicles has a reservoir and the reservoir is marked full and add. Open the cap when vehicle is totally cooled down and add a mixture of 50% water and 50% antifreeze and be sure to add the correct antifreeze for your vehicle. Never add just plain water unless it is an emergency to get you to a garage.
What does it mean when the overflow tank is bubbling yet the car does not overheat?
could be a faulty thermostat,or it could be a sign that your head gasket is about to blow ,or last of all your timing could be out of sync.
2from Inventus: It means your cooling system is funtioning properly. In a system having a coolant recovery tank, coolant in the radiator is always up to the brim, hot or cold. There is negligible or no air space. When coolant in the radiator expands sufficiently due to warming from the engine, it will squeeze past the pressure cap's bottom seal and flow into the recovery tank. (If no provision for such expansion was present, the expansion would rupture the radiator or your hoses.) Only coolant within the radiator is under pressure, and because of this pressure (together with the elevated boiling point that the "anti-freeze" permits), it normally does not boil. But once past the pressure cap's bottom seal, the overflow is at atmospheric pressure and therefore boils. This boiling is usually unnoticed after a short, i.e., local, trip because the cooler coolant already in the recovery tank quenches it. But after some highway driving the influx of more hot overflow heats up all the coolant in the recovery tank to the (unpressurized, i.e., "natural") boiling point.
As the engine cools when shut off, the contracting coolant in the radiator sucks back coolant from the recovery tank. Fluid in the recovery tank should never be below the "full hot" or "full cold" marks, lest air be sucked in.

Your cooling fans are not turning on. It is not normal for your overflow tank to boil like that. It is true that your radiator is overflowing into the reserve tank, but that means yourr adiaotor is boiling. Check for blown fuses or relays for your cooling fans. IF theya re fine. run your engine for about 15 minutes and drive. When you temp level is at normal operating temp open your hood with the engine runing and see if your fans are on. If they are, then you may have a bad thermostat or a plugged radiator, or a bad water pump. If the fans are not on, get your cooling fan switch replaced if your car has one. Check your temp sending sensor
---ADDED INFO--
I had the same problem. My coolant reservoir looked like it was boiling after the engine was hot but it was actually air going in. This happened when I replaced a new radiator and the fans turned on immediately when starting up the car (and never turned off) The wiring harness on my temperature sensor that is screwed into the radiator was not plugged in all the way. Toyota cleverly made this into a fail proof design where the radiator fans go on automatically and do not turn off even if the engine is cold and happens when it cannot detect the temperature sensor if it is failing or not plugged in.
How do you replace the radiator on a 2002 Chevy Cavalier 2.2l engine?
its really a pain in the a$$ but its only 3 bolts on the alternator loosen up the serpentine belt and pop off the wire harness and ground wire, take the 3 bolts out and pull it out takes about an hour to change 1
Where is the radiator located on the 2000 VW Beetle?
right behind the bumper! yes- to change it you have to take off the whole front of the car! crazy huh?
What causes neither radiator fan to turn on when the car is overheating in a 1997 Chevy Malibu?
check all the relay switches that's what was causing my problems
How do you bleed the air out of a 1996 cougar 4.6 liter engine cooling system?
Fill the radiator to the top with coolant. Start the car and keep checking the coolant level. The coolant level will drop when the thermostat opens up, so refill it.
How do you fill the radiator of a 1996 Cavalier?
Add antifreeze in the coolant tank on the pass. Side fender till it won't take anymore. Now start the car up and run till gets very warm. ( Should reach above normal operating temp.--this is ok). Now turn off the car and add fluid as it takes it in. This is heating and burping the air out of the coolant system. These cars are known for getting alot of air trapped in the system. I let it run till the temp. gauge gets about 3/4 the way up and turn it off. Make sure you are adding coolant in while it's off or it will just suck air in. You'll have to do this a few times till it doesn't take anymore when it cools down with the engine off. Then it's ready to drive. Count on it taking you a while but it's just a lot of waiting. Good luck
What is the most energy efficient heater a renter can use in a rented house?
The question is better defined as "What the most energy efficient portable heater?" Because one would assume that you will want to be able to take the heater with you when or if you move.
How do you fix a cracked radiator reservoir?

The most likely cause of this is a blown head gasket dumping oil back into the coolant passages. The oil will mix with the glycol in the antifreeze and make a thick yellow paste. It is very important to flush the cooling system after the repair or this sludge will cause heating problems.
How do you fix a radiator on a 1991 Nissan 300zx 6 cylinder automatic?

Where can you find the radiator plug on a 1994 Saturn?
On my 1992 Saturn the radiator petcock is above the splash guard on the bottom of the radiator on the side closest to the belt. You may want to drain the radiator via the lower hose. The petcock on my Saturn came apart. The retaining clip came off of the back. I did not force it and according to the Saturn forums this happens. I am now trying to see if it can be repaired or replaced and much farther than I wanted to be from completing a quick water pump change.
Can propylene glycol antifreeze and ethylene glycol antifreeze be mixed?
Yes, Ethylene glycol and Propylene glycol are very similar chemically, therefore, can be mixed without any bad consequences for the engine.
How do you get air out of rad on Isuzu trooper?
Add coolant to the coolant reservoir tank (a rubber tube runs from the top of the radiator to the coolant tank). The system is designed to automatically purge itself from air and replace it with coolant from the coolant tank. Watch the level of fluid in the tank and make sure you keep it filled to the "full" mark. If there is air in the system, you will notice the coolant level in the tank drop over time as the radiator draws in coolant and purges itself and the rest of the cooling system of air. Expect this to occur over several driving sessions. The cooling system is a sealed system; you can add coolant directly to the radiator when your vehicle is cold (if there is room), but NEVER when it is hot. It's best, however, to be patient by adding coolant to the reservoir tank and letting the system take care of itself.
Where is the drain plug located on a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora?
For a 1998 with 4.0L V8, it's located on the driver's side of the radiator. There is a hole about 1- 1/2" in diameter through which you can use a 19mm socket and extension to turn the plug CCW to open.
