Will stop leak work if the radiator cap is attached to the overflow tank in a 2004 Dodge Stratus?

It will "work" but is never a good idea. Stop leak not only stops external leaks, but also plugs small internal passages in engines and radiators, which can lead to overheating.

Is it ok to put water in the radiator of a Volvo instead of antifreeze?

It is ok for a short time but you need to get a 50/50 mixture back in it asap (50% water & 50% antifreeze)

How do you change a radiator in a Peugeot 306 TD?

306 1.9 td 1998 R reg.

Ok, so I did mine today and what a pig it was! After much scratching about I think this is the easiest way.

1 Drain system from bottom of rad, should be a drain off there.

2 Remove trim behind bonnet latch, should be one bolt and 4 plastic re-usable clips.

3 Remove air intake on rhs, bolt is 10mm and a little fiddly to get to but makes it much easier later on.

4 Remove expansion tank cap and then the tank itself, including bracket which is held on with 3 torx bolts.

5 Assuming the handbrake is already on, remove driverside front wheel.

6 Remove wheel arch liner, its in 2 bits and is held on with plastic clips which again can be re-used if removed carefully.

7 Remove screen wash bottle, unscrew neck from under bonnet first, then two 10mm nuts hold tank in place. Undo wire connection from motor and remove the clear piping to the washer jets, marking their positions as one is front and the other is rear!

8 Now you should be able to get to the bottom hose which is held on by two clips, very important as they keep hose from touching cam belt!! It travels from the back of the engine block to the bottom connection on the rad. Dont remove it from the rad yet.

9 In the engine bay remove the other hoses from the rad, should be easy enough with a set of pump pliers. I found it best to completely remove the top hose.

10 Now the rad should have just the bottom hose connected. It should be possible to remove the rad with it connected, but two pairs of hands make it much easier, one removing the rad and the other feeding the hose out of the wheel arch.

11 With the rad removed you should be able to remove the bottom hose relatively easily, but take care. You will find an O ring inside, which is likely to be damaged. I actually picked up two from Euro car Parts incase I damaged one.

12 Inside the bottom hose you will see it has a slit which lines up with a lug in the rad itself. It makes things much easier if you use some vaseline or baby oil around the O ring now as it needs firm pressure to locate it properly.

13 To be sure of it not leaking I now blanked off the other outlets and filled the rad with water. First time the O ring had not seated properly so it was worth checking!

14 Now, as usual to a Haynes manual refitting was the reverse of removal! The hardest bit is getting the hose back through the hole in the bulkhead, the rest is just a matter of reconnecting everything you removed.

15 The last thing I did was refill the system. I did not use a "header tank", I simply raised the filler tank above the enging block and filled it that way, running the engine as I filled. A quick run around the block to warm the engine up, all that was needed was a little extra top up and to ensure water was running without air a few squeezes of the top hose seemed to do the trick.

Like I said, this is what I found to be the best way of doing it, and yes my car does have aircon too. You may get away without removing the air intake but it really makes things so much easier.

What causes temperature gauge to spike as if overheating when coolant level is full on a 2000 Concorde lxi?

if im right you have the 3.2 or the 3.5 both motors are very bad about the water pump going out. also could be as minor as a thermostat but if i had to guess id say the water pump.

What causes a radiator to over heat?

Stuck thermostat, faulty fan clutch, faulty water pump, restricted air flow, low on coolant, missing/damaged fan shroud, restricted coolant flow from a plugged radiator core to name a few.

What happens if you accidentally put oil in the coolant reservoir?

You are screwed! Get that radiator flushed by a profesional ASAP! ANOTHER SUGGESTION DO NOT RUN THE MOTOR HAVE IT TOWED TO A PROFESSIONAL. IF YOU DID RUN THE ENGINE GOODLUCK BUDDY HOPEFULLY IT DIDN'T AFFECT THE ENGINE IF SO YOUR GONNA HAVE A HELL OF A TIME REPLACING ALL THOSE HOSES AND YOUR RADIATOR AND HAVING YOUR COOLANT LINE REPLACED.

How do you replace a radiator on a 1986 - 1995 Taurus - Sable?

Anyone with a bit of mechanical knowledge can replace a radiator on a car. Radiators need to be replaced periodically, usually because the hose necks tend to become brittle with age and break. Radiators can also be damaged by any kind of debris striking the front of the vehicle. While the exact radiator replacement process varies from vehicle to vehicle, the basic principles are the same on nearly all cars and light trucks.

1.Open the radiator drain plug, located somewhere near the lowest point of the radiator, and let the coolant flow into a catch basin to drain it. Loosen the lower radiator hose to drain the coolant if your radiator does not have a drain plug.

2.Detach the hoses from the radiator. Loosen the nose clamps and pull the hoses off of their attachment necks. Remove the auxiliary belts by sliding them off of their pulleys to gain more work room.

3.Remove the engine cooling fan and the radiator shroud. This step is vehicle-specific, and no single process will cover all types of engines. In most cases, you have to use a wide box wrench to release the mounting bolt that holds the fan to the engine. Set your cooling fan down upright to protect its clutch. Loosen the mounting hardware that holds the shroud. You might have to pull the fan and the shroud out together if clearance does not permit you to pull them out separately.

4.Remove any mounting screws, bolts, clips or other remaining attachment points. Put these pieces of hardware into a container so that you do not lose them.

5.Lift the radiator clear of the engine. This can result in a mess of coolant as the radiator shifts around, so have newspaper and a catch basin underneath the radiator.

Radiator Replacement

1.Slide the replacement radiator into place. Handle it gently so you do not damage the delicate cooling fins or hose necks.

2

Replace the mounting hardware. Torque them so you do not break the new radiator.

3

Reinstall the cooling fan and the shroud by simply reversing the fan and shroud removal process.

4

Reattach the cooling hoses to their mounting necks. Snug the hose clamps down, being careful not to over tighten. Consider replacing your cooling hoses at this time, as they become brittle and prone to failure with age. Replace them all if you replace one.

5

Install and tension the auxiliary belts if you removed them to get more room to work. Slide them back over their pulleys and adjust tension by turning the tension adjustment nuts and bolts.

Cooling Addition

1

Mix the replacement coolant and distilled water in the right proportions for your vehicle and your climate.

2

Pour the coolant into the proper fill area. Depending on your vehicle, you may pour the coolant directly into your replacement radiator, into your overflow reservoir or somewhere else.

3

Run the engine to allow the coolant to circulate and add more as necessary.

4

How do you bleed the air out of a cooling system on a 1990 Chevrolet Lumina with a 3.1L engine?

On top of the thermostat housing is a bleed valve. Loosen the top nut first, this will bleed it. There is another one on the radiator, but I haven't found it yet.

Why is the car losing coolant after a new water pump has been installed?

first make sure the radiator cap is tight. there can be lots of reasons....hole in a hose, leaking radiator, cylinder head gasket, intaked manifold leaking, heater core, or the water pump leaking. check and see if there is a puddle on the ground, if so you can diagnose where it is coming from easier. if no puddle then it might have an enternal leak. see if the bottom of the oil cap looks like somebody spit in it, if so then its water miking with the oil. when the vehicle is running see if there is any blue smoke, this could indicate a bad cylinder head gasket to.

How do you fix a leaking radiator petcock?

Petcock FixHere are answers and opinions from FAQ Farmers:
  • First off, don't open a Durango petcock. If you already did there are replacement ones available after market. Another solution is to get it dry and silicone it in place, let it dry (24 hours), fill your system back up.
  • Plastic petcocks can be replaced by first removing the radiator from the vehicle. Now remove the stripped drain plug, then use an ice pick to remove the retaining clip inside the hole that the plug screws into (this is the part that usually fails). New plugs can be purchased at the dealer or NAPA....Next, unscrew the retainer clip from the new plug. Install the retainer clip and make sure it locks into place....be sure the retainer clip fits properly in the hole as each brand is different. In cases where the radiator is not the original, you may have to get a replacement drain plug from the aftermarket dealer that sells that brand radiator. Finally, screw the new plug into the hole using vaseline on the rubber gasket to help it seat tightly without having to overtighten the petcock. Better to leave it snug and then pressure test it for leaks and tighten it if necessary than to overtighten it. The stress from overtightening it may not damage it right away....it will fail when it gets hot a few times and under pressure....then it will dump all the coolant in a hurry. Something else to think about...usually this failure comes from overtightening or coolant contamination causing the plastic components to weaken and fail. Flush cooling system and check for oil or other contaminants.

If these petcocks are opened properly, there should not be a problem. Too many people just yank and twist on them causing unnecessary damage. If it does come out or leak, good old Teflon pipe tape works just finer.

Where is the drain-cock located on a 1999 Olds Intrigue radiator?

On my 98 Intrigue it's on the bottom left side of the radiator. Push in and turn it about a half turn. It's not threaded but has a catch pin. Be careful not to break it. Learned the hard way but most parts stores have a replacement. Tip: grease the o-ring on the petcock when replacing it or installing a new one. It will be easier to turn the next time.

Where is the radiator drain plug on a 2001 Ford Taurus?

See "Related Questions" below for moreThe radiator drain plug for a 2001 Taurus is located underneath the car on the bottom of the radiator on the driver side of the car. It is very hard to see and get to. You must first remove the plastic cover that is attached to your front bumper. Take it completely off, then look underneath the car on the driver side. On the bottom of the radiator you should notice a white plastic nut. It is easily removed with a 3/4 wrench.

I would suggest you take it to a auto shop and have a flush done as draining the radiator really does little for you. There is still a large amount of the coolant in the engine and in the heater core that does not get changed and will contaminate your new coolant as soon as your thermostat opens. Also draining the radiator does not remove very much of the deposits that are built up in the system.
