Radiators

A radiator is a heating device that consists of a series of pipes where steam or fluid circulates. There are different types of radiators, namely hot water, steam, fan-assisted, under-floor heating, and electric baseboard.

Your 1999 sable keeps overheating and there is much smoke coming from under the hood right behind the fire wall neer the stearing wheel you are trying to find out what is over ther themostat water pum?

It's probably the metal "T" fitting where the heater hoses are connected. I had to replace the fitting with a plastic one after the original metal one started to corrode. It would leak tiny streams of water when the temperature reached a normal level. The fitting is under the hood near the steering column.

How do you make car radiator coolant?

Purchase one gallon of antifreeze from your local auto parts store and mix it with one gallon of clean water for a mixture of 50/50. This mixture will protect from freezing down to -34 degrees F.

Where do you find the radiator cap in order to remove it and add radiator sealant on a 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora?

: The overflow cap (radiator cap) is on top of the tank that sits on top of the dr. side fender under the hood.some of the newer cars do not have a "radiator cap" it goes in to the overflow tank . i would not suggest using radiator stop leak because it can clog up the radiator and heater core on the car if you must use it only as a last resort.

Mitsubishi Eclipse 96 overheats and loses water radiator and hoses have no leaks thermostat is new and gaskets also OK but water disappears from radiator any ideas?

The water pump could have quit working. The water would overheat and overflow through the coolant reservoir.

I was losing water and couldn't find it until i noticed there is a water line that runs underneath the exhaust manifold that has a 1" aluminum fitting that had came loose and was sending the water to the exhaust manifold so it was evaporating as fast as it was leaking.. You have to pull the exhaust manifold back (i had to take the fans off due to a 50 trim turbo) and tighten the bolt.

Could a bad Head Gasket cause a Radiator hose to blow off also hold enough pressure in the radiator to ware you can't take the cap off 15 hours after the vechicle has ran?

over heatingno if you have bad heads the pressure will build in the engine however the fluid usaully evaporates and out the tail pipe or mixes with the oil in the engine causing a bluish looking smoke to come out the tail pipe you may have a bad water pump or clogged radiator that's not pushing the water back up in the block.

or a stuck thermostat .

How do you bleed air from the cooling system of a 95 ford explorer?

If it doesn't have a bleeder screw on top of thermostat housing that can be opened alowing some antifreeze to escape. (some do) I would loosen the upper radiator hose and run vehicle until thermostat opens and antifreeze starts coming out -- careful it will be hot. Or loosen one of the hoses going into the heater core and again let water flow for a couple of sseconds. T avoid this problem, when filling cooling system, do so slowly allowing air to escape during fill procedure.

No heat in my 1978 Chevy c10 pickupoverflow fills with coolant and won't suck back into radiator my temp gauge goes up fast redlines and comes back down fast I feel the hoses but there not hot HELP?

You may have an air lock. Drain your fluid again, out the peacock valve on the bottom of the rad and remove the lower rad hose from the engine block. Now reattach your hose and seal up the peacock valve. Pour coolant into the rad until you can see the fluid level (flashlight helps) then stop. Now start your vehicle with the cap still off the rad watch as the pump moves the fluid, continue to add fluid until the level no longer goes down. Beware coolant may splash up and out use long gloves and eye protection if you wish. Once the level no longer decreases be sure to add the remainder of the manufactures required coolant into the overflow. If there is a full or add line on that overflow reservoir check and add coolant later if necessary. At some point the coolant should level off otherwise you may have a leak somewhere. If all this does not work your heater core maybe plugged or leaking. Mine had not been working for a while and when i tried to fix it there had been a mouse living in there and blocked the whole unit and ate through the heater core. For starters you want to make sure the water pump is functioning and thermostat is working.

What could cause the temp gauge to fluctuate and the heater is not heating?

either your low on anti-freeze or the thermostat is broken. i just changed my thermostat today and i cost $11 so it won't hurt to get it replaced even if your not sure its broken.

What would cause oil to leak into the antifreeze reservoir?

Consider if it is engine oil or transmission oil or power steering oil. Transmission oil or power steering oil would indicate a bad radiator. Engine oil could be a bad radiator also if the radiator includes an engine oil cooler ("extra cooling") but usually indicates an intake or head gasket leaking.

Answer

Your symptoms are indicating a possible head gasket problem. If you have oil in the water, you may have water in the oil. Pull out the dipstick or take off the oil fill cap and look for the unusual condition of FOAMY oil. You may also have exhaust gas in the water which can also be checked by a mechanic. Be prepared for the expense of a head gasket or possible engine replacement.

answer

if you have oil in coolant, you have a cracked head or a cracked block your mechanic will do a compression test to determine what it is either way it is not cheap fix unless you can do it yourself

ANSWER

you may have a blown head gasket, or cracked head , or cracked block

Answer

It could be a number of things listed above. However I had this issue with my 3.1 V6 GM engine. I had oil in the coolant, and it turned out to be a failed Intake Manifold Gasket. It is best to take it to a repair shop and let a professional handle it unless you are mechanically inclined. If it is an Intake Manifold Gasket your looking at a ball park figure between 400 to 900 dollars. Think of it this way, would it be more beneficial to fix your current car? Or to go and put a down payment on a new one and get stuck with payments for the next 5 years?

its a BLOWN HEAD GASKET, OR A CRACKED HEAD or CRACKED BLOCK one of the three.....

It seems everyone assumes that you are talking about a gasoline engine which for the most part they would be right: radiator oil/trans-fluid internal cooler, intake leak or head gasket. If you are talking about a diesel engine, could also be oil cooler o-rings, cylinder liner o-rings, failed e.g.r. cooler, etc.

i think its funny that i have that same problem with my 3.1 v6 gm motor and my friends grandmom had the same problem lol and there is oil in my reservoir alott and if u want to know if u bad head gaskets u wont be able to see people behind u because ull be pouring white smoke out of ur exhaust, and whoever said water is heavier then oil is retarted its less dense then water yes but not heavier its hard to tell what the exact problem is so first things first id do the intake manifold gasket one because the part is cheap and to its not exactly ripping ur motor apart

yes lets tell this person to fix there exhaust manifold because that takes care of his oil & water problem. the person that feels not pulling an engine apart, how do u fix a a hungry stomach. now this person has oil in the water not an exhaut minifold problem geeezzzz some people.....

Can a small crack be fixed in a '93 Grand Prix radiator without buying a new one?

I do know of a solution to this problem. If the crack is just a small one there is a tablet you can get at any Automotive Repair store. It's called Radiator Repair its a small "tablet" you drop in your radiator and let the car run, as it warms up you will notice the crack disappear. Other than that JB Weld is a good bet if you know where the leak is generating from.

How do you do a radiator flush on a 1997 Chrysler Sebring?

u need to take both the radiator hoses off the radiator and take a water hose to the top inlet. leave the cap on it. and let water run through it to flush it out.

Where is the bleed screw for a radiator on a 2000 Daewoo Lanos?

hi there, i dont own this type of car but i am a mechanic, (only in my own time) so i can educate you on all cars in general, ok! if you look underneth any car at the bottom of the radiator and there is no BUTTERFLY/WING NUT sometimes metal but mainly plastic, then how to empty the radiator is to undo the bottom hose. this answear not only your question for this car but for all cars, ok! TAKE NOTE DO NOT CHANGE WATER WHEN ENGINE IS HOT YOU MAY BURN YOURSELF, AND ALSO NEVER FILL UP A HOT ENGINE WITH COLD WATER YOU CAN BLOW THE HEAD OR HEAD GASKET.

How do you replace the Radiator Fan Assembly on your 1997 Plymouth Grand Voyager 3.8L?

2 bolts near the top of the fan assembly. However these do not fail often. More often the fan control module (or some call it the Relay, but it is solid state) fail. It is very common in this series of vehicles.

How do you clean the radiator for 1995 Ford Thunderbird?

i would go to your local auto parts store and ask them for a raidiator flush kit. it should be a bottle of chemicals that you run through your raidiator and then drain it and replace your coolant. it should have all the directions you need on the bottle

Do you add coolant to the reservoir or the radiator?

If there is a cap on the radiator you can check to see if the radiator is full ,

and if it isn't , " top up " the engine coolant . Otherwise , you check the

engine coolant level at the engine coolant reservoir when the engine is cold

and maintain the level at the cold mark

How hard is it to replace a radiator in a 1992 Ford 6-cylinder?

trying this myself at the moment. im working on a 1994 escort, so chances are the coolent system is very similer to yours. took me about 2 hours too disconnect the old one. you need jacks by the way. then another hour to put the new one in and connect it. then you have to flush the system which will take alittle while. and you should be done. i would say this is pretty hard only cause i have very little experience with cars but it can be done. goodluck

Where do you put the water for the radiator on a Peugeot 205 GTI?

If no reservoir, have you checked the side of the raditor for a filling point? probably there same as an old 306

Why would antifreeze leak from the radiator cap?

If you have a "Leak" from the cap either the cap needs to be replaced or the top of the Radiator is damaged.

It is normal for thermal expansion (water gets bigger when hot) to cause the coolant to go into the expansion tank when cars is hot and to be drawn back into the radiator as the engine cools

Changed radiator and thermostat why would a car still run hot?

Sounds like you need a new water pump or you could have air in the cooling system

How do you flush the radiator for a 2002 Chevy S-10?

For normal maintenance:

Buy the following:

  • 2 gallons of distilled water $1
  • 2 gallons of antifreeze $20
  • Prestone Flush 'N Fill kit $3
  • Prestone Radiator "Flush" $3

Turn your heater on and leave it on for the entire process

Drain the antifreeze from the system.

Install the "T" from the Flush 'N Fill kit and follow the directions that came with it.

Disconnect the water hose, close all the drains, add the Prestone Flush, fill with water, get engine up to operating temperature and run for 20 minutes, allow to cool then, drain the system.

Connect your water hose to the Flush 'N Fill "T" and flush one more time. Drain.

Fill the system with a 50/50 mix* of antifreeze and distilled water. Continue to fill the system over the next few days as the air is worked out of the system.

For clogged, neglicted, or extremely dirty systems:

Buy the following:

  • 2 gallons of distilled water $1
  • 2 gallons of antifreeze $20
  • Prestone Flush 'N Fill kit $3
  • Prestone Radiator "cleaner" not "flush" $4

NOTE - If you can find them, the two part acid flush and neutralizer kits work much better than the Prestone Cleaner. Substitute for the Prestone Cleaner and follow the instructions on the package.

Turn your heater on and leave it on for the entire process

Drain the antifreeze from the system.

Install the "T" from the Flush 'N Fill kit and follow the directions that came with it.

Disconnect the water hose, close all the drains, add the Prestone Cleaner, fill with water, run the engine 3-6 hours (you can leave it in for a few days if neccessary), drain the system.

Connect your water hose to the Flush 'N Fill "T" and flush one more time. Drain.

Fill the system with a 50/50 mix* of antifreeze and distilled water. Continue to fill the system over the next few days as the air is worked out of the system.

*When you do your final drain and fill....not all the water will come out so to get the proper 50/50 mix you should add the right amount of straight antifreeze then top off with the distilled water.
