Have you checked all of the fuses? Or relays? I had the same issue and it was the ignition switch going bad. Hey guys, I've been googling for an answer to the same question. Before I started googling, I checked all my fuses and all my relays. I even read the relays out. I suspected that it had to be something in my steering colum because one day my turn signals did not work. I turned off the car and then turned it on right away AND the problem went away. Weird. Now the headlights, turn signals, wipers, and a/c unit don't turn on. So I agree that it has to be the Ignition switch. I'll change mine out next weekend and update you for sure. Thanks for asking the question and big thanks for the second guy that answered it! I was having this issue, too. I love my beetle to death and, unfortunately, I think that mine is getting about to that point. The dealership told me that the problem was with the ignition switch. $500.00 later, brand new switch and everything was working perfectly (except for my window, but who really needs a window that rolls up and down anyway). It has been a month and a half since and last night... no more lights, no more signals and no more wipers. I don't know if your luck might be better than mine, but you might want to investigate other issues before choosing to purchase a new ignition switch and pay for labor. Best of luck, I'm taking mine in later today. Same thing just happened to me. I can not get my headlights, wipers, turn signals, or my a/c blower to work. I got the oil changed and the next day they all stopped working. I thought they were somehow related...but I guess not. Anymore answers??

Where is the diagnostic port on a 1999 Hyundai Accent?
To the left of the steering wheel is a little indented area (I throw my change in there) directly above the opening is the port, if you feel up there, you can feel the pins...I didn't iknow where it was, and multiple auto parts stores couldn't find it until I happened across a very knowledgeable one...hopefully that helps, it is DEFINITELY not under the steering column like other cars...much more convenient
Why does engine light flash blue when coolant and oil is OK on 2002 Beetle?
What engine light? Most of the time, the blue light is the highbeam on light. More information can be found in your owner's manual. If you do not have one, then I suggest you get one. You need an owner's manual to know what items to service and when, and for specifications. You can order one from a dealer, find one at a salvage yard, or eBay.
Answer
I took mine in twice to get it looked at and was finally told that it goes on when you first start the car but then eventually goes off. I was also told that blue lights don't mean anything and it's the orange one's you have to worry about. Answer The engine coolant light can show either blue or yellow. Blue indicates the engine is not up to temperature and yellow/amber indicates an overheat condition. If the indicator never leaves the blue state (goes dark) you should get the cooling system checked (stuck thermostat?) If it turns amber find a safe pull off and shut off the car and let it cool down. (stop car symbol in the owner's manual.)
Answer
If the coolant light is flashing blue it means that you have a faulty coolant sensor, there are two coolant sensors and one of them is very cheap and needs to be replaced. Do check your coolant level and make sure not to over fill, check when engine is cold.

How do you replace a brake light switch on a 1999 VW Beetle?
Take off the panel under your dash on drivers side. You will need a star head tool to take off the panel. Behind the brake pedal you will see something that looks kind of like a 35mm film can. It will have a plug in on the side facing the seat. Unplug it and the turn the switch one way or the other. Pull it out, replace it and plug it back up. You can get the part at Auto Zone for about $18. Take off the panel under your dash on drivers side. You will need a star head tool to take off the panel. Why are most 4 cylinder cars front wheel drive?
Front wheel drives are cheaper to build and much lighter, due to extra parts that go into building a rear wheel drive car.Four cylinder engines can deliver more power through the shorter drive axles as opposed to a longer drive shaft to the rear wheels. They are more stable and more fuel efficient.Since the government set standards on the fuel mileage of passenger cars, every ounce of weight taken off of a vehicle is important.

Replacing 1999 vw beetle cabin filter?
The cabin filter is located on the inside dash. You must pull up the center panel on the top of the dashboard and then pull it toward the windshield to release it. Using a T-25 driver, loosen the screws holding the right and left dash panels on top of the dash and then pop them out.
There are too cover plates. Use the T-25 driver to remove all the screws holding them down on the passenger and drivers side. Take the cover plates out.
The cabin filter is on the passenger side.
There is a lot of road debris (Leaves, bugs, etc) in that compartment, so removing both sides allows you to clean it out to keep the cabin filter fresh longer.
