OK, DID MINE LAST WEEKIT TOOK A CROW BAR AND A TORCHLEAVE IN 2 OF THE 4 BOLTS THAT HOLD THE PULLY TO THE WATOR PUMP& TAKE THE BATTERY OUTUSE A LARGE CROW BAR ( MINE IS 4 FEET LONG WITH A,( J )ON ONE END JAM THE BAR BETWEEN ONE OF THE BOLTS AND THAT DAMNED CLUTCH FAN NUTHEAT THE CLUTCH FAN NUT WITH A TORCH AND BEAT YOUR WRENCH WITH A BIG HAMMER TO KNOCK IT LOOSE ( REAL PAIN )OR BUY A $150.00 TOOL FROM CHEVROLET!!!!!

chilton book on s10 1997/98 chev y pickup tells one to remove three bolt pulley not the fan pulley lo and behold there is a water pump remove four bolts behind the pulley the water pump is jusy an impellar. the hoses go into the block.very unusual installation.it is not a stupid question to ask for this water pump installation as suggested by chevyb expert.

is it damp under or near the dash ? if so its most likely your heater core cause it will cause a very bad smell that would be first thing I would check

Bad new water pump, thermostat installed upside down, hoses reversed, slipping water pump belt, system needs bleeding and has an air pocket.

You must bleed the cooling system of all the air. Set the heater control to hot also when this is done to remove all the air in the system

7.2 Litres

To replace the water pump on a 1996 Toyota Tercel, start by disconnecting the battery and draining the coolant. Remove the serpentine belt, then take off the timing cover and the timing belt to access the water pump. Unbolt the old water pump and replace it with the new one, ensuring to use a new gasket. Reassemble in reverse order, refill the coolant, and check for leaks.

If you have a serpentine belt, first you will need to loosen up the alternator and remove the fan belt. Jeeps with serpentine belts, use reverse rotating water pumps, so make sure you get the correct one. If the old water pump is OEM, it should have REV stamped on it. Remember, the routing of the belt for reinstallation. Then remove the 4 bolts to the fan and remove the pulley. If you have power steering, you will need to remove the 4 bolts that connect the power steering unit to the water pump. Then remove the bolts that connect the water pump to the block. If the bolts are different lengths, remember which hole you removed them from. Dislodge the water pump from the block and clean up the gasket surface on the block. It needs to be smooth. You can use a razor blade and a drill with a wire wheel on it. Stuff a rag into the hole in the block to keep grease and gasket material from getting inside the block. Line up the gasket with the bolt holes on the water pump and install. Be careful installing the new water pump as the gaskets can be thin and tear easily. I believe they recommend the bolts be torqued to 13 pounds. Then put everything back in reverse of how you took it apart. When tightening the fan belt back up, do not make the belt real tight. Leave some play in the belt as over tightening the fan belt can lead to bearing failure in the idlers and alternator.

if its a 4 cylinder, its located inside the timing case.

To change the pump remove the passenger frt wheel and the front plastic cover. This gives you access. Next remove the belt with a 14 mm wrench on the tensioner, Remove the 3 bolts on the pulley through the wheel well and remove pulley, Remove the 4 10 mm bolts on the bottom of the pump. Next i always remove the washer fluid jug(1 10mm bolt) Install a long extension on the rachet and use a 10mm swivel socket to get the upper 2 bolts out remove the pump and clean the block surface Reverse procedure to install I am trying to replace my water pump and can't seem to find it's location. Usually the water pump failure is by leaking. Although it is possible that a failure of the impeller is causing your problem, my experience is that it is more likely a partially clogged radiator. Try opening the windows, turn the heater all the way to hot, fan on high, when the engine is overheating. If the temperature comes back down, the radiator is probably the culprit. Had a similar problem with my 2000 Forester after a failed head gasket had leaked oil into my cooling system. That gunk just doesn't flush out. --Ken

High level description here: Changing spark plugs and wires in my 1996 Express was an all day project for me. It's been a few years, but I recall I had to take the front wheels off to get access. Be safe. I needed to get s 3", 6", and 12", socket wrench extensions as well as a universal joint. I'm pretty sure I used 1/2" drive sockets.

The motor cover in the passenger compartment needed to come out to get access to the distributor. I do not recall whether or not I got access to the rear plugs from the inside or outside.

I couldn't fathom why a garage wanted over $500 to change the plugs, wires, distributor cap. After I did the job I understood. Good luck!

If it is a 3.0 liter, It is a very difficult job. Water pump runs off timing belt behind all the plastic panels and motor mount on front of engine. Haynes/Chilton book has the procedure but it is not for the mechanically challenged.

This would depend on the well type, deep well, shallow well, free flow well - you would need to be more specific. But the basics are: suction tube from the well, check valve to keep well primed, pump, bladder tank to create pressure and that's about it.

the water pump is under the timing cover driven by the timing belt, between the two cam gears, you must remove timing belt for replacement, while your in there you should replace cam seals and front crank seal and also timing belt.

On a 3.1L V6, it is located on the passenger side of the engine, towards the front. There is a smooth, shiny metal pulley over the top of it. To remove/replace it, you will need to loosen the tension on the belt by raising the belt tensioner pulley, located on the bottom directly below the alternator. Once loose, slip the belt up over the alternator pulley, and lower the tensioner. Remove the 4 bolts holding the pulley onto the water pump. To prevent the pulley from turning, slip a large flathead screwdriver (or tire iron) into the hole in the motor mount directly above the water pump pulley. This will bind against the bolts as you make your way around. Be sure to loosen all bolts first before completely removing them. Once they're all loose, you can remove them by hand, and slip the pulley off the water pump. There are 5 small bolts holding the water pump to the engine. They are spaced around the outside ccircumference of the water pump. Once all 5 are removed, the water pump should come out. If not, tap on it lightly with a rubber mallet. Sometimes the gasket sealent likes to stick. Once removed, be sure to scrape all traces of the old gasket material, and clean the surface with acetone. Installation is the reverse or removal. Check for lost coolant, and add more if needed to the proper level. Start the engine and allow it to reach opearting temperature. Check for leaks. None? You're done!

Since I don't know which engine you have I will list them all. I know some of these are for other vehicles in the manual but you will know which one is yours.

2.2L -

1. Partially drain the engine coolant form the vehicle

2. Remove the serpentine dirve belt form the vehicle

3. Loosen and position the alternator to one side

4. Unbolt the water pump pulley, then remove the pulley

5. Unbolt the water pump, then remove the pump and gasket

6. Clean the gasket areas thoroughly

2.5L -

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable

2. Drain the cooling system

3. Remove the serpentine belt. Removal of the alternator and/or bracket may help give more room for easy access

4. Remove water pump attaching bolts and nut, then remove pump

2.8L -

1. Disconnect battery negative cable

2. Drain cooling system and remove heater hose

3. Remove the pump pulley

4. When replacing the water pump, the timing cover must be clamped to the cylinder block prior to removing the water pump bolts. Use special tool J29176 or its equivalent

5. Remove the water pump attaching bolts and nut and remove pump.

3.1 L (VIN T)

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable

2. Drain cooling system in to a drain pan

3. Remove the serpentine belt

4. Remove the heater hose and radiator hose

5. Remove the water pump cover attaching bolts and remove the cover

6. Remove the water pump attaching bolts and remove the water pump

3.1L (VIN M)

1. Partially drain the coolant from the vehicle

2. Remove the serpentine drive belt from the vehicle

3. unbolt the pulley from the pump

4. Remove the water pump mounting bolts

5. Remove the pump from the engine, then clean the gasket area

I think that more than covers the celebrity engines, but if not let me know. I have directions for a 3.0L, 3.3L, 3.8L, and 4.3L Diesel. Good luck!

Its pretty easy for the most part. Make sure your engine is cool first.

Remove the belt.

take the fan shroud and fan off. Unbolt it from the engine.

Disconnect the hoses that hook to the pump. have something ready to catch the coolant.

BE CAREFUL UNBOLTING THE PUMP IF THE BOLT ISN'T COMING UNDONE WITH JUST A LITTLE PRESSURE TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC. YOU WILL OTHERWISE BREAK THE BOLT AND HAVE AN INOPERABLE CAR.

Replace with a new pump. dont worry about putting on gasket sealant. Just make sure to coat the new bolts so that they wont corrode.

Reconnect the hoses then fan & shroud at the same time.

Put the belt back on then make sure to refill the coolant and run it a while to get the air out of the system.

Once the coolant levels are back to normal, you should be good to go

it will either leak out of the weep hole or any cracks if it has any or the bearing will be noisy if not locked up.

There are too many steps to enter it all here. Your best bet would be to get a Haines manual. I used one to do my 95. Make sure you read the steps first before doing the work. Unfortunatly you have to take a lot off to do this.

i just did a pump on a 2002 SL2 5 min before writing this. its not hard . take right side tire off remove plastic splash shield . the small one closest to front on the bottom it was in part behind the main splash shield. just pull back the main shield and pop the small one out . take belt off and drain coolant . the water pump will be just under the ac compressor looking at motor from the wheel well to the right of the main pulley . remove the 3 bolts holding the water pump pulley. they are 10 mm. use a 10 mm wrench put it on one bolt let it rest on the top of the main pulley. this will give you resistance to break the other 2 bolts lose. the last one i put a screwdriver in the open holes and took the last pulley bolt off. then remove the 5 10mm bolts from around the pump. the top 2 bolts were easy to get from the top. then gently pry the pump out. you can also remove the ac compressor not disconnecting the ac lines . and do it from the top the pump was $24.99 at autozone good luck. this is for 1991 to 2002 s series all models.

If this is a rubber hose it's your water pump bypass hose.

it is called a bypass tube and to replace it you have to pull the belt tensioner. this is awnsered near the end of buick regal questions.

First, drain the radiator coolant by removing the drain plug on the underside of the radiator. Disengage the ducts, hose, fan, clutch, and belt attached to the water pump. Then, separate the water pump from the block and discard the two gaskets that will be revealed. Prepare the new water pump by cleaning the edges and attaching new gaskets with a high temperature automotive sealant. Install the new water pump and secure. Replace the belt, clutch, fan, hose, and ducts as well. Reconnect the drain plug and fill with coolant, then rejoin the negative cable to the battery.
