How do you replace the water pump on a 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora?

NewWhen removing the pump unit with special tool (some auto-parts stores rent them), TURN CLOCKWISE TO LOOSEN the pump-unit, counter-clockwise to tighten. The Torq Specs for the pump-unit is: 73 Foot Pounds. There are stop tabs on the pump-unit that mate with the tab stoppers on the main water pump housing unit. I had to re-torq by visually viewing where the stop tabs where after the first torq, don't over-torq or you will bend the tab stoppers on the pump unit. ALSO...the water pump-unit front cover requires a new rubber gasket (you'll have to order it through GM or use RTV silicone under the old gasket, which has a grooved fitting inside the front cover). The Torq Specs for the front cover (5 bolts) and water neck cover (2 bolts) is: 89 Inch Pounds. Those small bolts tighten normal, clockwise.

without the special socket, you wont. you can do a google search of Oldsmobile Aurora water pump tool or cadillac northstar water pump tool, or something similar and you will be able to locate one. they range in price from about 15.00 to 100.00. you get what you pay for. i own a 96. remove thermostat hose and housing. release tension on belt via idler pulley and remove belt. there are 4-5 bolts holding the cover over the impeller to expose it, but you will need that tool (socket) to release the impeller.

How do you replace the water pump on a 1993 Dodge Spirit?

Depending on engine it is pretty simple... I have a 2.5L 4Cylinder Dodge Spirit...

First u drain the coolant.

Remove Serpintine belt

Remove the A/C Compressor and keep it out of the way with someone such as rope or a bungee cord, whatever you might have to keep it up and out of the way...

Remove Alternator.

Remove the main mounting bracket that holds the AC Compresser and Alternator on.

Remove the 3 bolts holding the water pump housing to the engine block.

Now all you have to do is remove the water pump from the water pump housing then do this in reverse. Installing the new gaskets and such.

Important: you have to remove the pump pulley from the old pump and install it securely on the new pump. Chaeck that the new pump copmes with the large "J" figure plastic gasket included. While it is possible to form a gasket with silicone sealer, it is better and easier to put a smaller quantity of silicone sealer on both sides of the plastic gasket to ensure no leaks result. It took me about 4 hours to replace the pump, but I also cleaned the radiator and changed the hoses, flushing the system. Amclaussen.

Where is the water pump located on a 94 deville with a north star engine?

On the North Star engine you need to remove the air filter assembly and look on the right side of the engine you will notice the thermostat housing connected to the water pump cover on the engine. Once the water pump cover is removed a special socket is needed to remove the water pump. It is also a good idea or install a new belt on the water pump as well.

How do you replace the water pump on a 1988 Chevy Suburban 350?

Personally I would recommend you calling your local auto parts stores and find a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual for your year make and model. Most all these manuals explain in detail how to replace a water pump.

If you dont want to pay for the repair manuals, go to the library and look them up than after getting the information. Go to the copy machine and get copies.

These are pretty easy to do. Drain coolant and remove the lower hose from the waterpump. Remove the heater hose from the pump. Remove the fan shroud (upper half only. If it will not come apart because it is stapled together cut the staples and pry apart. When installing I usually will drill a couple 1/4" holes and bolt together. Remove the serpentine belt. Depending on what is in the way I usually remove the belt tentioner assembly and idler pully. Remove the fan assembly from the waterpump. Remove the 4 9/16" head bolts and tap the pump to loosen. Clean the gasket surfaces and install the new pump in reverse order.

What would make a 1991 Lincoln 302 run hot after changing the water pump thermostat and radiator?

putting the belt on wrong - AS it will reverse direction of impeller.a blown head gasket-& I bought 2 NEW radiators that were BLOCKED in the middle of the RADIATOR for MY car.(they were a CHEAP BRAND)defective thermostat. most likely you have a blown had get the cylinders pressure ched are you blowing out white smoke when you excelarate if so blown gasket. Before you jump off the bridge, you may have a defective t-stat, fairly common among parts with new ones for whatever reason. You may just have an air pocket. Why did you change all those parts in the first place? IS the gauge accurate? that is is the engine temp. really hot or the gauge just indicating that? Is the cooling fan going on?

How do you replace the water pump on a 1997 Chevy Astro?

First you take the air induction vent off from over the radiator shroud. It just pops off from the shroud. Next you look down beside the radiator and you will see bolts that you have to take loose. The radiator shroud is a 2 piece shroud. Once you get the top shroud out you can take the idler pulley loose and take the serpentine belt loose and take the fan blade off. You will be surprised with the room in there once you get that out of the way. I changed mine in about an hour. While you have all that out checked your idler pulley tension because after i replaced the water pump the idler pulley went bad and i had to replaced the serpentine belt again.

Overview

This is one of the easiest water pump replacements I have ever done. Below are the steps in the order I performed them.

Remove radiator plastic cover across top front of engine bay

Remove shield on water pump belt drive. Two 10mm nuts and one 10mm bolt.

Remove 10mm nut holding oil dipstick to water pump housing

Remove air filter and completely remove the air box. Set computer to the side safely. (you will be glad you did this step)

Use large screwdriver to move belt tensioner to release tension and remove belt from water pump pulley

Remove clamp from upper radiator hose and remove hose

Remove clamp from thermostat housing bypass hose (do not remove hose yet)

Loosen 4 10mm bolts with deep socket on water pump housing and let coolant drain

After coolant drains, remove 4 10mm bolts from water pump housing and remove housing.

Place special Water Pump removal tool on water pump cartridge and using ½" drive breaker bar turn clockwise until pump slips off housing.

Remove pump and remove o-ring inside the water pump housing

Clean area good with cloth rag or paper towel

Put clear grease on new o-ring and install in water pump housing

Install new water pump and using special tool and ½" breaker bar turn counter clockwise until new pump snaps into place

Remove old seal from water pump housing cover

Start engine and fill with coolant watching closely so you do not over fill

How do you replace a water pump where you broke a bolt I cant get the broken bolt out. Can I replace the water pump with 4 bolts instead of 5.?

After removing the pump, if part of the bolt is sticking out, you may be able to grab it with vice grip pliers. Using a penetrating oil is also a good idea. If you cant grab the bolt, you may try a device called an e-z out. You will have to drill a hole in the bolt of the proper size then insert the e-z out in the hole and turn it with a wrench to remove the bolt. as a last resort the bolt can be drilled out then new threads inserted in the engine by a device known as a helicoil. This may have to be done at a garage by a mechanic.

How do you change the water pump on a 1994 Dodge Intrepid with 3.5L engine?

On a 3.5L engine first disconnect the negative battery cable. (2) Loosen the pulleys and remove V-belt & A/C belt..note: the pulley located on timing cover must be removed. It has three bolts which are of different sizes, make sure you don't mix these bolts up. (3) Remove Harmonic balancer with removal kit. (4) Remove timing belt cover. You will see that the water pump is pulled by the timing belt. BE VERY CAREFUL YOU DO NOT TAKE THE ENGINE OUT OF TIME. If you mistakenly rotate a sprocket, you must realign the timing marks to prevent rod damage. (5) Loosen tensioner and remove timing belt. (6) Remove water pump. Clean surface of block face and disgard old o-ring. (7) Install new pump & o-ring...note: it is a good idea to replace timing belt as they should be changed every 100 thousand miles. (8) Install new thermostat. (9) Reinstall everything the way you took it apart. (10) Refill coolant.

How do you change a water pump on a 2004 Chevy truck?

here's how i did my 2003 6.0L. yours should be the same.

drain your radiator at least 1/2 way and catch the coolant. remove fan shrouding while radiator is draining. remove serpentine belt. remove hoses attached to water pump. unbolt water pump with fan attached and remove. be careful not to damage the back side of the radiator.

place pump/fan assembly on a bench. use a strap wrench on the pulley and a big wrench on the fan nut. remove fan from pump--it is left hand threaded and isn't on there very tight.

you will have to transfer the thermostat and its housing to the new water pump. use a scraper and/or scouring pad to clean the pump mating surface on the block. reinstall fan onto new pump--you don't have to tighten it that much. reinstall water pump--again be mindful of the backside of the radiator. torque to spec. reattach hoses.

refill radiator and start motor. check for leaks while you make sure that there is no air trapped in the cooling system. once you are sure there are no leaks reinstall fan shrouding.

as a side note: while you are at it you may as well flush your entire cooling system. i suggest doing that before you actually change the water pump as you will be flushing and draining the system anyway. once its cleaned out (using the old water pump) you can put the new one in and install new coolant.

Is it possible when you have radiator fluid leaking that the timing is bad?

If the timing were off, it would be possible to overheat an engine, and have the overflow throwing water at you. But, in newer cars, this is usally not the case. You might have a bad hose somewhere-radiator, or heater hoses. And/or, the thermostat could be bad. NOPE

How does ballast work?

Firstly, there are a few meanings for the word ballast, and they are used in different contexts.

In an electrical context:

Electrically, It adds resistance to limit the current. In a fluorescent light fitting, the ballast adds resistance. Once the lamp conducts, it presents a very low resistance to the circuit and would draw too much current. The ballast coil also has reactance and provides a back emf pulse, to enable the lamp to fire (conduct) when it is interrupted by the starter.

In an a shipping context:

Ballast is used in ships and submarines (both new and old) to provide stability to the vessel within the water. Normally the trim of a boat in the water will differ whether it carrying a cargo or not, if the ship is lighter and higher in the water it is more inclined to roll from side to side in heavy weather. In order to prevent this ballast tanks are used in ships, these are then filled with seawater in to make the ship heavier (lower) in the water and less prone to tilting. Before the ship takes on cargo the tanks are pumped out making the boat "ride" higher in the water. Earlier wooden vessels also used ballast, but would use stones, rock or bricks for this purpose.

In submarines, ballast tanks are flooded with water or purged using compressed air in order to maintain neutral buoyancy, or to allow the submarine to ascend or descend.

In hydraulics/ irrigation terms:

Ballast tanks (sometimes called buffer tanks) are used in irrigation and plumbing systems to provide a buffer between supply and demand systems. A simple example of this is the water tank of your toilet. The system, when flushing requires a fairly substantial amount of water, the mains water supply of a typical house does not have this volume all at once, so the water is stored in a small ballast tank. When you press the flusher a larger volume of water that can normally be supplied by the house water supply is release - giving you a clean bowl.
