Air Filters and Intake Manifolds

Air filters are devices that remove solid particles such as dust, mold, and bacteria from the air. Used in building ventilation systems and engines, they contain an intake manifold that is primarily tasked to optimize the system/engine’s performance and efficiency.

It's under the flat-looking large plastic cowling on the left side when looking from the front.

How often should the air filter on a car be replaced?

depends on the air filter if it's a one time use then every oil change if it's a reusable then all you have to do is clean it up and relube it and use it again

Every 15,000 miles or one year.

Is the intake manifold on a 305 interchangeable with one on a 350?

yes

edit

Not always. You haven't said what kind of 350 you're talking about. Is it an LT1? Is it a Vortec? Is it an LS1? If you said yes to any of those then the answer is likely "NO" for LT1 and definitely "NO" for the others.

Does a 2000 sienna have an air conditioner air filter?

My best guess is no. A telephone survey of Toyota dealer service departments in my town came up with 2 "yes", 1 "no "and 1 "you will have to bring it in so I can see it." I removed the glove box and lower dash panel and don't see any indication of one The AC air filter is commonally called a cabin filter

Can a furnace manifold leak?

How do you replace a intake manifold gasket on a 1999 Pontiac Grand AM?

I'm just finishing this same job on my 1997 Pontiac GrandAm. First of all, this is a known design weakness on these aluminum 60 degree "V" engines.....let me guess, it leaked coolant either to the outside of the engine, or more likely, into the engine where it turned the oil into a chocolate-colored froth.

Secondly, this job is non-trivial....takes a lot of tools, and a bit of know-how.....and you can get into big trouble with crossed, or stripped threads.....I say this because of the manner of the question leads me to believe that you've not done major engine work before...this is not a first-time job.

The general answer to your general question is that you remove the accesories (alternator and power steering pump, vacuum lines, ignition components, throttle linkage, cruise control linkage, MAP sensor, EGR stuff, etc.) and unbolt the intake manifold (upper and lower) sections, remove the old gaskets, clean everything up and reassemble with new gaskets. You need a torque wrench in the inch-pound range for the manifold bolts. Get a manual, and have someone there who is familiar with major engine work, or don't try it.

Best of luck to you

Do you get less mileage with ethanol enhanced gasoline and if so which gas stations sell pure gas?

You will get fewer mpg's with ethanol enhanced gasoline

ethanol yields 75-85k BTU'd per gallon

conventional gasoline yields 108-117k BTU's per gallon When US Refineries volunteered to remove MTBE, ethanol was chosen as one alternative Ethanol content in gasoline varies by state and sometimes by city in the US

there are about 150 different blends across the US -- sooo, happy hunting til than

easy on the throttle = more mpg & free

keeping tires properly inflated = more mpg & free

highperformance air filters = expensive but pay for themselves via more MPG So I guess this means that if a seller is adding "Up to 10% Ethanol" and selling for $3.99 / gallon and another station is selling for say 5 cents a gallon more, but it is 100% gasoline, you'd actually be getting a better deal mileage wise with the 100% gasoline. In my area we always see the big dealer, Sheetz selling the cheapest gas. But, they are now selling 10% ethanol. Many people are seeing their mileage go down when they use this ethanol based gasoline. Personally, I think all stations should be required to tell you the ethanol content much like other business's are required to label their products with it's ingredients. This statement of "Up to 10% Ethanol" shouldn't be legal. Is it 10% or 5% or 1%? When I'm shopping for gas I want to buy the best price per gallon. But, I want the best miles per gallon also. Who regulates this in a state like Pennsylvania for example, that does not even test fuel quality and octane ratings let alone ethanol percentages?

I have an anecdotal answer. Our hybrid Highlander dropped from 29 MPG to 21 MPG when we were forced to switch to ethanol. It went up to 26 MPG when the software was modified. (Remember the plural of anecdote is not evidence.)

Answermost of the Phillips 66 stations do not use ethanol ,shell marathon conoco

Shell just started using it a yr. ago. Now there is no station that I know of where you can buy gas without ethanol.

Due to state and federal government tax breaks it is almost impossible to find gas with out ethanol added. Your best bet would be to call your local stations, ask for a manager and ask them what the ethanol percentage is in their fuel.

How do you change the cabin air filter on a 2006 Infiniti M35?

Cabin (Air-Conditioning) air filter installation for '07 Infiniti M35. The instructions I received with the replacement filter were not very useful. After searching the web and piecing together other people's input, I was able to complete the task, but it was still a learning experience. First, you need to remove the glove box: Open the glove box. There are three hinge points at the bottom of the box (left, center and right). There are "tabs" on the box that slide into these "holders". Gently pull up and out on the left side of the glove box. The tab should pop out. Repeat for the center point. This should allow the left side stop pin to clear the dash slot. Repeat for the right side. You should now be able to turn the box, pull it from the dash and let it hang from the retaining cord on the right side. Note the hinge slots and tabs for reference for re-installation later. Second, remove the black access door behind the glove box: This is an "L" shaped cover with three hinge points at the bottom and three tabs at the top. Gently push back on the tabs at the top to un-lock, rotate down on the hinge points and pull out. Behind this you will see a white plastic door which covers and holds the filter in place. Third, remove white access door as follows or you will break the retaining tabs off! On the right side is a locking tab, gently press in and pull the right side of the tab toward you to unlock the tab BUT STOP AS SOON AS THE TAB UNLOCKS THE DOOR AND OPENS ABOUT ½ " or the tabs on the left side will break off, they are not hinged! Next, slide the door to the right to clear the tabs on the left side and remove. Note the position and orientation of the filter inside. Remove the old filter. Fourth, install the new filter: Make sure the orientation and air flow direction are as marked and match previous filter. Mine was pointing "up", with the rigid side plate facing out. The new filter will be sitting on top of the fan, when the white door is re-installed, it has "fingers" that lift the filter into the proper location, but you may find it easier to lift the filter up with one hand and slide the door back into position with the other hand. That said, lift the filter, slide the tabs on the left side of the door back into there slots. Push the door back into original position and latch the right side locking tab. Make sure the door is sealed and back to original position and latch tab on the right is locked. Now, reverse the previous steps to complete the task. Re-install the black access door cover. Lift up the glove box and turn to install right side stop pin into dash slot position, rotate left side into position and center box in dash opening. You will have to move the box up/down, in/out a bit to "feel" the hinge tabs properly engage the hinge slots. Once the tabs are in the slots you can push down on each side and it will pop back in place. (If you have difficulty, you may want to remove the under dash cover below the glove box. There are three tabs in the front that slide into three slots and one tab and slot in the rear. This can be removed by pulling down on the front of the panel at each side and the middle, then slide it forward out of the rear slot. Disconnect the light if required by pushing the latch on the plug and pulling it off. Feel around the hinge locations to guide the parts together). Check operation of the glove box door. Done.

How do you change intake manifold gasket on a 1998 Pontiac grand prix with a 3.1 engine?

It would be best if you got the Chilton's manual for your car. This is a fairly complicated task on the 3.1. Not at all impossible, but you have to mess with a lot of things. You'll need to take off the throttle body. Remove the alternator and power steering pump, unbolt the upper plenum. Remove the fuel lines, fuel rail and injectors. Remove valve covers and loosen rocker arms. The push rods go through the gasket and will need to be removed to R & R the lower intake gasket. Keep the push rods in order as they are different lengths for intake and exhaust. Remove lower intake manifold bolts. Reverse the procedure to install.
