Air Filters and Intake Manifolds

Air filters are devices that remove solid particles such as dust, mold, and bacteria from the air. Used in building ventilation systems and engines, they contain an intake manifold that is primarily tasked to optimize the system/engine’s performance and efficiency.

What would cause steam from exhaust after new head and intake gaskets?

It is probley just the engine coolant burning that ran into the exhaust and muffler. Just let it run awhile and burn it out.

If it don't stop steaming after about 30 mins. Then you have done something wrong when putting it back together. Are you changed the wrong head.

Start the engine with the radiator cap left off and keep watching in the rad while the engine is running, there should be no bubbling coming from the radiator. If there is then you still have a bad head are head gasket. Radiator should build NO pressure in it while the engine is running.

How do you replace the cabin air filter in a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica?

Under the glove box on passenger side, you'll see a black cover. Remove the cover, and you'll see a black plastic and there is a lid at the bottom. Remove the lid, you'll be able to access the filter and change it. Pull down the filter and replace a new one. It takes a little bit longer to put the new filter in. !

What is the horsepower of a 79 trans am with a 403 big block headers cold air intake and newer exhaust?

if it is a 403 in a trans am you have a small block

that is true..either way...if all of the internals are stock then you you might be getting as high as 250 horse...these were not high hp engines..I hope you knew that before you bought it

I agree with all the above assessments.

With the right combos, you might be able to get 265 flywheel horsepower at 4400 rpm. The 403 Olds engine used in the Trans Am was not known for its great horsepower, but it could have a lot of low-end torque. With the right mods, you might be able to get as much as 375 ft-lbs at the flywheel, but at a low engine speed of around 2800 rpms.

I wouldn't expect much over 300 ft-lbs on a chassis dyno with a stock engine, though.

Agreed...and the stock HP rating of the 403 equipped T/A was 185HP. That at least gives you are starting point.

In 1979 the 403 was a big block not a small block and hp was 185 w 220 ft torque

The 403 Olds engine is NOT a big block. It is an extremely large bore small block. It is running a bore of 4.351 and a stroke of 3.38. It shares the same external dimensions of the 307 and 350 Olds. The heads, crank and many other parts will swap between these engines. If you have a car running the smaller 307 or 350 you can swap a 403 in without any modifications to anything. I don't know why some people have it in their heads that anything over a 400ci is a big block. It's the same as listening to them talk about small and big block Pontiacs. Pontiac had only one size block...externally.

I do appreciate learning new things and today i did. I have owned my 79 TA w/403 since highschool ('91) and always assumed it was a big block. I am currently doing a body on restoration with a few mechanical fixes and im knee deep in the motor right now. You are correct about the 403 being a small block. I guess i just believed it was a big block cuz i heard that all these years and just by looking there is a lotta engine under the hood. Still a big fan of the 403 and big or short it has done the job it was built for. yours truley, Trans Am Fan!

Is a valve gasket and a head gasket the same thing?

Valve cover gasket holds oil from the valves from leaking off the top of the head . Head gasket is lower and holds cylinder pressure between the cylinder head and the engine block.

Where is the mass air flow sensor on a 2000 Daewoo Lanos located?

The mass air flow sensor is located directly in the engine compartment. The MAF measures the temperature of the air and the amount of air entering the engine.

Any recalls 1999 Chevy Tahoe intake manifold?

Nope no recalls. I assume you ask because the intake manifold gasket has failed once or more on your truck. Everyone I know with a Tahoe 99 or earlier has had to get the gasket replaced due to coolant leaking down the engine. I've had mine done twice. According to my calculations at this point, the gasket fails around every 50,000 miles. I've got 103,000 now and just got it done the second time. First time was around 50-60,000 miles. Chevy says it's because of the two different metals the intake manifold and heads are made of. During heating up and cooling down, the metals move differently and over time allow the gasket to fail. You could try retorquing the bolts every so often but I don't know what the setting is. Gasket companies don't make a better gasket than the plastic one that's in there. GM may have improved since on this issue but as far as the 5.7L Vortec V-8, $800+ every 50,000 miles or so at the dealer. Or do it yourself for cheap.

How do you change the lower intake gasket on a 1995 Buick Regal 3.1?

As a gm certified tech, i have replaced many of these intake gaskets. It takes about five hours as a professional and it involves dismantling the top of the motor. Not an easy task. As long as the motor is not noisy the motor should be fine once the coolant oil mixture has been drained. Should change the oil a few times to be sure all the coolant is out

How do you change air filter in itasca RV with freightliner chassis?

Who made the chassis doesn't really matter - what does matter is what motor you have in it. IIRC, Itasca RVs were built on Freightliner chassis ranging from the Sprinter 3500 up to the custom built RV chassis from Freightliner Custom Chassis.

How do you change engine air filter on 2010 Chevy Equinox?

Changing the Cabin Filter for 2010 Equinox 6cyl

1. Open and empty glove box.

2. Find stopper tab at the top(It's used to stop the glove box when fully open)

3. Push it up and out of the way so the glove box can open to its full extent.

4. Behind the bottom of the glove box door is a hinge the glove box uses to swivel forwards and backwards. With glove box open to its full extent, you just have to lift it off of the hinge. May require a little wiggling.

5. After the glove box is removed you will be able to see a black plastic cover with a round shape (covers the fan? which sits horizontal). Above is a rectangular door with two tabs keeping it shut. Both tabs need to be pushed up so the door can swing up, giving you access to the filter.

6. Pull out the old filter (Screwdriver may be needed to work loose if very dirty)

7. Carefully install new filter making sure you do not damage it.

8. Position glove box at its fully open position and work it onto the hinge.

9. To close it you will have to push it through the stop that you had to push in step 3.

10. Now you should be able to fully close the glove box and you are done.

What is the difference between a fresh air intake and regular intake on a vehicle?

The difference between a fresh air and a regular intake on a vehicle is the location of the inlet. Fresh air uses and inlet at the extreme front of the vehicle, while a regular intake can be anywhere and pull in heated air from the engine.

What are signs of a intake manifold tuning valve that's not working properly?

Variable geometry or two-stage intake manifolds are used to optimize the torque at all engine speeds by directing the intake air to different length runners. A manifold tuning valve (MTV) is the control mechanism that accomplishes this by directing air at low speed through long runners and air at high speed through short runners. The MTV actuation is through an electric motor / rotary solenoid controlled by the engine controller through a relay. Hope this helps! Jay
