Why does 99 Mercedes ML320 dipstick smell like gas but leaking oil does not?
If the dipstick of a 1999 Mercedes ML320 smells like gasoline there could be a gas leak dripping into the oil pan. The engine needs to be checked for leaks to avoid any serious damage to the vehicle.
Low oil pressure can be many reasons bad or dirty sensor at right rear of engine or your car can have a sensor in the side of the pan passenger side. a weeping head gasket allowing moisture or a water pocket to build up at the sensor water cant properly pressurize the sensor.....
I have a 1999 E430 and I get idiot lights coming on randomly, too. I got one a while back that said the rear tail lights were out after I washed the car. I waited a while and it hasn't come back on since. There were no lights of any kind out. The oil sensor defective light came on today while we were travelling through Arkansas. It was a clear day -- no rain anywhere. I will tell you one thing that might have something to do with it. In my case, I found that you can check the oil level using the computer if you: turn your ignition key to the second ON position. This is the position that causes all of the dash warning lights to come on so you can see if any of the bulbs are burned out. Leave it in this position -- do not start the car. After about 5-10 seconds, it asks if you want to check the oil level. Push the "0" (zero) button on the dash twice. I did this while the engine was still warm twice and the computer said that the engine was overfilled with oil. Apparently you need to wait like 6 minutes before testing. I did not wait. I suspect what happened is the computer "sensed" that the engine was overfilled with oil a certain number of times because I didn't wait for the hot oil to get back into the pan before testing. Then other times the sensor told the computer everything was cool and the computer "decided" that the oil sensor is defective. I haven't gotten that one again, but I've learned not to leave the key in the second ON position (prior to starting the car) for more than a second or two unless the car has been sitting for at least six minutes. Otherwise that damn oil sensor light comes on again. Could your situation have something to do with the rain itself? I don't know, but I also wonder if you don't operate the car slightly differently when it's raining. Maybe you fiddle with the wiper blades or the A/C longer while the key is in the second ON position and this is just long enough for it to test the oil sensor and "conclude" that it's defective. These Mercedes are very finicky and I must admit that it is unusual driving a car that gives messages that may or may not be valid. On the other hand, it has never left me stranded and it purrs like a kitt.en when driving thousands and thousands of miles. Hope this helps.
some leaks only happen when the engine heats up and builds pressure. some of the newer oils don't smoke as much as the older ones. you might only get a poof of smoke at start up. Did you mix sythetic with regular oil that's bad. When it's running & hot check for small leaks. But those little Honda's are just breaking in at 100,000 the run forever.Keep checking.don't over fill it. Good luck.
sounds silly but is usually rocker cover gasket, cert- on 406 hdi
Why do you waste so much oil to make one plastic water bottle?
WikiAnswers does not make plastic bottles.
Waste is an interesting term. The manufacture of water bottles is as efficient as the system can be. There is very little waste in the process as there is very little profit. To make this a busoness model that works requires almost zero waste.
Lexus ES300 engine is smoking and smells like burning oil what is the problem?
did you forget to re-install the dip stick or the oil filler cap after the last oil change/check? also, did you just have an oil change or anything like that where oil may have poured onto the exhaust system? if none of the above, your valve covers are probably in need of new gaskets...:) also everyone should have a manual for their vehicle, and the library should have a professional manual available...in the reference section, you'll have to make copies of the important sections...good luck :)
What cause white foam on oil cap of 4 wheeler?
Water is getting into the engine. Change the head gasket before it blows.
How are they stopping the leak from the oil rig?
BP is drilling two relief wells. These wells will plug the blown out well from the bottom using a heavy mud, designed to overcome the pressure of oil coming out of the well. It is a reliable method, but takes time. The well should be plugged (no more leaks) in early August. The final step is to pour cement into the blown out well, to create a permanent seal.
Why does cab vents smell like oil after oil change on 05' Tacoma?
Probably somme oil spilled on engine during filter change or refilling of crankcase. Smell should go away after it burns off. You can just use recirculated air instead of fresh air for the time being..
This is an extreme amount to loose. Common sense tells you that you have a leak. The question is where is the leak? If you cannot see coolant on the pavement, then I would suspect one of two things. Either the coolant is leaking near the exhaust manifold and burning off, or you have an internal leak into the combustion chamber, ie, a blown head gasket or cracked head. Do you smell coolant? I suggest you have a compression test run asap. This will verify an internal leak. Remove the radiator cap on a cold engine, start the engine, look for air bubbles in the radiator. If you see some, you have a internal engine problem. Have this repaired immediately or you may do serious damage to this engine.
Could just the wiring make the oil gauge not work on a 1966 Ford Mustang?
Yes.
First, you must locate the engine oil level transducer located on the driver side, front, bottom of the engine block. You can do a quick search on summitracing.com, if you're unsure of what it looks like.
Once you've found the oil level transducer, you'll notice a wire connected to a copper terminal on the top of it. That wire is cheap and easy to find and replace.
That would be my first suggestion. If the wire doesn't solve the problem, buy a new transducer and extension (the small oil feed connecting the block to the transducer), which ought to cost about $20.
If it STILL doesn't work, check and/or replace the gauge.
Hope this helps!
Can a loose battery cable cause other electrical problems?
== == A loose battery cable will allow the alternator to run 'open circuit'. This puts the engine computer and other equipment under alot of strain from having to deal with very poor quality power. (essentially pulsed dc with some high voltage spikes and varying with engine RPM) The battery greatly stabilizes this dirty power. Assuming you didn't fry your engine computer, I'd try just resetting it. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Wait 5 minutes. Hook it back up. Try to start it. Beware of doing this if you have an anti-theft radio or an ignition key with a chip in it. You'll likely end up needing the dealer. The harder the copper wire presses the more energy will flow through it.
How does one determine the cause of Isuzu Trooper 3.5 liter oil problems?
Usually oil burning problems are caused by either worn rings or failed valve guide seals. Either way, it will require an engine rebuild to solve those problems. Rarely, sludge buildup around the piston ring groves can capture the rings and oil can leak past the rings, causing the engine to burn a lot of oil. In that case, there is an extremely low possibility that you can run some solvent through the oil, then run the engine for a brief time and drain the oil, hopefully washing out some of the sludge and get a little improvment... but don't count on it.
Water in the oil! lack of power and foam on the dip stick or white smoke: Head gasket?
No loss of power lots of foam, gets hot rainbow on the water surface: crack in the engine or head? ouch!
Remove oil sending unit and replace with a manual gauge to check oil pressure.
Could be low oil pressure due to excessive engine wear (bearings) or a weak oil pump
While I agree with the above, a simple start would be to use a thicker oil, up to and including a diesel. It will help to increase the psi given how old the engine is.
Where did the oil spillage happen?
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill took place on the Gulf of Mexico, on April 20th, 2010.
What does white deposit on the oil filler cap mean?
If you are not loosing any coolant then it is more than likely condensation, caused by short driving trips. A good long trip will help remove this. However, if you are having to add coolant, then you need to have it looked at by a professional. You may have coolant entering the lubrication system. This can be very serious. You may have a leaking head gasket. It will only get worse.
Why would a 1993 Plymouth Voyager be burning oil?
Well, it is normal for older vehicles to develop some leaks (small) and for most cars to burn oil (1/2 qt every three months). However, it sounds like you should really talk to your oil changer and ask them what oil they are using and what the old oil looks like. If it has water, coolant, or has a big leak you need to look at repair/replacement.
How many litres of oil are required in a Suzuki Bandit?
It may depend on the year of your motorcycle.
It may also depend on the engine size (600cc, 650cc, 1200cc, 1250cc)
Here are the recommended amounts for a 2001-2002 Bandit 1200:
NECESSARY AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL
Oil change: 3.3 L (3.5/2.9 US/Imp qt)
Oil and filter change: 3.5 L (3.7/3.1 US/Imp qt)
Engine overhaul: 4.6 L (4.9/4.0 US/Imp qt)
Why does your oil smell like gas?
Knowing what year, make and model you have would help but, excess gasoline is getting into the engine oil, could be from a faulty fuel injector, fuel pressure regulator or in the older vehicles, a flooding carburetor or faulty fuel pump.
What it the flow rate of a gas pump?
The EPA limits gas station pumps to no more than 10 gpm. The average gas station pump is between 5 and 10 gpm.
