If your check engine light is blinking with the engine running , an ignition misfire has been detected . Take it in and have it scanned for trouble code(s) in order to diagnose and repair the problem . Try not to accelerate quickly while taking it in for repair as this could damage the catalytic converter(s)

There is no reset button. Cars built since 1996 have an OBD-II diagnostic connector. Connecting a code scanner will let you read out the reason why the SES light is on, and also to reset it. Alternatively, in most cars, you can reset the SES by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes.

The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle. Generally, the problem is in the emissions or something that is affecting the effectiveness of the emissions, but other causes can trigger the light to come on, too. To determine the cause, the vehicle will need to be taken to a parts store or a shop that has an OBD2 scanner, or for 1995 and earlier models, an OBD1 scanner, While a scanner will not give you the magic answer, it will give you a code that narrows down the problem area.

Take the positive terminal off the battery for a few minutes. Then put it back on, This should reset the computer. You can also take the neg terminal off and get the same results.

The P1406 code on a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 3.1 is the code for the EGR pintle position circuit. I know this because it was my question initially and we bought a code reader to check the problem. It is a factory specific code, so the answer is quite specific. Good luck !

take off your negative post on your battry this will reset your computer box leave it off for half an hour then start the car run the air con. for 1 minute then drive the car for 20 km. this should help

my daughter took hers to the dealer, sweet talked a diagnostic refused repair and was given a very detailed list of parts to fix the problem. air filter, mass air flow sensor(this turned the check lite off) air mtere air filter, breathe valve( if this is not replaced it can cause the mass flow sensor to go out again) ,grommet, fuel pump relay and clean the intake. buy your own parts, was easy enough for an 18 year girl to fix minus the 700.00 + in labor chrges. she was also told that if everything is not repaired she will have to start over cause once the sensor is fouled youmst relace it and all the other parts so it will not foul again. hope this helps

Can't be specific, but it should be red. Either an engine logo, the words 'check engine' or both. Should be located right around the other gauges and dummy lights. (check coolant, alternator light, etc)

P1601 code means there is an error on the Powertrain Control Module Communication Line to TCM PO325 code means there is a fault in the Knock sensor circuit

Easiest way is to disconnect the positive terminal on the battery for a couple hours. This resets the computer log and the light will stay OFF until the problem occurs again and trips the light back ON.

If you have repaired the problem that caused the Check Engine light to come on, then you need an OBD2 scan tool to reset the light and clear the fault code from the ECU. If you have not repaired the problem then it will just come back on.

If I recall correctly, the O2 sensor plugs into the Cat. If you change the parameters of the cat, or remove it, the O2 sensor becomes confused.
I'd suggest replacing the Cat and resetting the OBD to make your light go off. (most any parts store with a code reader can reset the OBD for you) If the CHECK ENGINE light stays off, you'll be in business!

Yes, but only for a short period of time. Sometimes nothing is wrong but other times there is. I would suggest that you get to a mechanic asap just in case.

This question all depends on which Warning light you are refering to. The Check engine symbol indicates when a system servuce us required. The symbol lights up when the ignition is switched on and goes out shortly after the engine starts to run. If the symbol lights up when driving serivce to the engine management system may be required, the car is still drivable but must be service asap to prevent engine damage. Note if the symbol flashes and the engine cannot be started, turn the iginition off for at least 2 seconds before attempting to start the engine again.

The other Symbol is the Emissions light, which looks like an engine. This system is the emission monitoring system, it lights up when the care is turned on and then turns off shortly after starting. If the light stays on you must have your vechile serviced asap, note if the symbol flashes whilst driving reduce your speed and service you vechile asap.

This depends on the vehicle. If the thermostat is stuck open the engine won't get to the proper operating temperature which could trigger the MIL (check engine light).

The oil change garage or Mercedes dealer has to reset the oil change light.

The oil change light goes by the mileage on the car, tripping the light on at the factory recommended oil change intervals.

The computer doesn't know you changed the oil in the car unless you tell it.
