Electric Windows

The first electric windows were introduced in 1940 as an alternative to the hand-turned windows. These car windows can be lowered and raised by pressing a switch or button. Electric windows are designed for convenience and safety.

Why do none of the windows work but there is not a fuse and circuit breaker is good what next?

I had the same problem with our 1998 Pontiac GP. Both windows suddenly failed to operate. Checked the circuit breaker, that was fine. Could not find any other type of fuse related to the windows. The answer? The electrical pigtail that should have been plugged into the two window operating switches on the drivers side door had come loose. Once reconnected, all was well. (To access the wiring, just GENTLY pry up the switch panel from the bottom - below the two window switches.)

Both electric front window's won't work why?

How To Repair Your Car's Power Windows

By Matthew Keegan As you're driving down the turnpike and approaching the tollbooth, you reach for the switch to lower your window and nothing happens. The switch moves but the window does not budge. Not even a noise from the window motor can be heard which strongly suggests to you that the device is not functioning. You must stop your car and open up the door to pay the attendant before continuing on your trip. Thoughts of an expensive car repair bill are dancing through your head, putting you in a foul mood and tempering the anticipated fun of your getaway weekend. Don't despair: you can repair the power window yourself and save a bundle over expensive dealership charges. Let's take a look at the steps you can take to fix the problem yourself and save a lot of cash in the process. Before assuming that the window regulator must be replaced you should first rule out the possibility of dirty electrical contacts. On most cars the main power for all switches goes through the master switch located at the driver's console. Sometimes the switch is dirty causing the window to malfunction. If this is the case, take the necessary steps to clean the contact and your problem should be resolved. Should you determine that the contacts are clean and your switch is functioning, then it is likely that the motor has burned out and is in need of replacing. Whether you are installing a Honda window regulator or a Volkswagen window regulator, or a regulator for any other make the steps involved in replacing a window regulator are usually quite similar: # Remove the door panel for the affected window. # Locate and remove the bolts holding the regulator to the door; it is likely you will have to manually lower the window in order to access the bolts. # Remove the old regulator, disconnect all wiring, and replace the old regulator with a new one you have purchased from a parts supplier. Shop online to find the best value as you will pay a mint if you order one through a dealership. # Tighten the bolts holding the new regulator and reinstall the moisture barrier. Make sure all the wires are put back in the door before closing the door panel # Engage the power window switch and the new regulator should work unimpeded. Of course, follow your car's repair manual for specific instructions. I've given to you a general outline to convince you that this is a task that even a novice mechanic can handle - in other words: you can do it! By handling the problem yourself, you'll save plenty of money by avoiding garages who will mark up the replacement part as well as tack on several hours of labor costs to your bill. Shop online to compare prices and to receive the best shipping and handling arrangements available.

92 Camry RR window will not go up replaced the motor and register and have power going to it This is from both window switches?

Well lets eliminate the switches for now. Get some extra long wire and hook motor up directly to battery just to see if you can get motor to work. make sure you use positive to positive and negative to negative or ground on motor. If this makes motor work you may want to check switches or possibly a non grounding situation.

How do you remove the driver's side door panel on a 1996 Mercury Marquis to repair the electric window?

I've only done this to a few different cars, not the one in question but it may help. There are typically screws around the outside of the door, and a few hidden inside the door handle. And you'll probably have to remove the window winder if not electric. Without seeing the car itself not much I can help with. But at least it's a start

Take out the few screws, inside the door handle well (inside), lift the control panel for the windows, lock ect. Then lift the panel straight up and remove.

Where is window electrical panel for ford explorer 1995?

In the Power Distribution Box in the engine compartment (Note : Ford recommends disconnecting your battery cables before servicing anything in the PD BOX - which means your preset stations on your radio and the clock will have to be reset , the Explorer will have to relearn its idle etc. ) The Power Distribution Box diagram I have is not numbered , so here goes : In the 2nd row of fuses / relays from the drivers side and in the 3rd spot from the firewall end of the PD BOX is a green colored 30 amp maxi-fuse for the power windows , power seats , and power locks ( Helpfull )

Why the driver's side power window quit working on a 1996 Toyota Camry LE?

It could have failed due to several causes. If I were you I would check the fuses. Look at the wires for any obvious short circuits. Make sure the window and other moving parts are not jammed physically. Bypass the switch to rule that out. I might use a tester to see where power is and where it is not. Then get a repair manual and look up how to test the electric motor that drives the window. But if it is getting power and not moving then it likely needs repair or replacement. So, the short answer to your question is that it quit because of a bad fuse, or shorted wire, or bad switch, or bad motor, or jammed part.

Probably.

How do you take the power window motor out of the right side door?

How do you repair the power windows in a 1993 Bronco the motors are still good but the windows fall down and won't go up?

I'd say, either the window actuator arm broke or (more probable) the two little plastic gears that are part of the motor are worn out. The motor turns but the gears are damaged. That's a common problem - if the actuator arms are fine, try changing the gears (very cheap to buy).

A better answer would be that the nylon pieces inside the gear head are worn down and broken. you need to remove the motors and repair or replace them. Autozone has repair kit for $25 I think. I fixed several by cutting bolt heads off and putting the pieces (3) into the gear slots, but I'm sure that's a health risk for kids.

Take off the door panel...watch out for that light wire... in the middle of the door twards the front is the motor...window up or down does not matter... if this is the 1st time the motor has been removed you will have to drill 2 holes...look its even marked..don't know why the factory didnt drill them? anyway make the holes big enough that its easy to get a nut driver into the area. Remove the 3 bolts and drop out the motor ...unclip the electric pigtail and find a work bench. remove the 1 Phillips screw and flip over the motor....there is a pinched area in 2 or 3 places that you just need to tap with a flathead and a hammer a bit to allow the plate to slide off. lift out the damaged pieces and replace the 3 spacers with the store bought ones or headless bolts like I used. I add some grease to make it stick together and work longer. then reassemble ...tap the bent areas together ... don't matter 2 much cause when you reattach it they will be pushed together. you can hook it up and test it before you put it back in. hope this helps someone save some $$

How do you replace the driver side window on a 95 Dodge Neon?

on a manual window you need to pull the door panel off than you can access the window regulator, the glass is bolted to the regulator, you may need to crank the window up or down to get to the bolts, I beleave the glass is attached to the regulator with 2 or 3 bolts, replacing is the reverse.

help with removing the door panel from http://www.neons.org/howtos/door/ The first step to removing the door panel is to remove the window crank. There is a special U clip that holds the window crank unto a groove on the window crank shaft. You must remove this clip before you can do anything else on the panel. This clip can be easily removed as shown with a door handle removal tool, or with a very flat screw driver or piece of metal. Once this clip is removed then the door window crank should come off easily. Next you must remove two other screws. One is in the door pull cup (may look different on other neons, I know mine is facing up not back) and the other is behind the latch release handle. The one in the pull cup requires a screw driver, but the one in the door latch release handle requires a torx bit. Once these three things are removed, then the panel may be removed by pulling the edge of the panel out from the bottom of the door. Work your way around and up. You may then lift the panel slightly to remove it from the top of the door. Next you have to unclip the rod that connects the door latch to the door latch handle. You should now be able to remove the panel completely.

How does the power window system work in a 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport and if the motor still works can you replace the plastic parts?

Hi,

What usually happens is the plastic that holds the cable on breaks. I searched everywhere for a replacement regulator with no luck. The dealer will try to sell you the whole thing, motor and all for $200 + I found a guy on eBay selling a repair kit for $50. It took a couple of hours to get it all tore apart and installed but it works great! Worth every penny!

How do you replace a window motor on a 1998 Pontiac Firebird?

The window motor is attached to the window regulator by screws. After removing the door trim you must detach the regulator from the door by drilling-out four rivits. Then remove the screws from the old motor and install the new motor. Re-attach the regulator with bolts and put the trim back on the door.

How do you fix a drivers side window that clicks instead of winding all the way up on a 1970 Bug?

Apparently after 36 years the window regulator needs some lubrication ! I removed the window and then the regulator and then lubed the whole of the regulator using a silicone spray. Fixed ! Getting the regulator and window back in the door was a whole other story.

What would cause the driver side shoulder strap to stay in the retracted position to the rear No noises can be heard as if a motor was activating?

There is a belt that if fed down through a motor and feeds out across the bottom of the door sill. Mine got chewed up in the motor and the fuse blew. In order to free it you must remove the drivers side panel behind the driver's seat and the motor is just above the lap belt recoil unit. There is a knob on top. By turning it you can manually wind out the belt. If the belt is too chewed up, go to a wrecker and get the entire track assembly that goes over your door and replace everything up from the motor. Use the knob to wind the new belt down through the motor and into the track. Check the fuse if the belt is not chewed up.

How do you repair a power window on the passenger side of a 1997 Windstar?

If your 97 is like my 98, then this is the easiest way to get out the old pw motor. You will need a Phillips head screwdriver, drill with about 1/2 inch bit, a pull strap and a ratchet and socket (i think it's a 5/16 inch socket) . Start out by removing 2 screws at bottom of door panel, then pop off black plastic by mirror, then pop off trim around buttons, remove screw by the door handle, lift straight up on door panel to get above door lock knob. After the door panel, plastic, etc... is off , you see the pw motor on the middle of the left side, you will notice the metal clamp with a pull strap around the bottom, (it is pop riveted in, cut the pull strap) you will see 3 small holes on the door (roughly 1/8 inch) drill those out to expose the mounting bolts holding the pw motor in place (hold up the new pw to see and compare bolt holes), now that is about the easiest way I can tell you, hope it works for you. Btw, to get the bolts started back in the new pw motor, you might want to use a piece of tape, or something to hold bolt in socket or you will probably drop them several times due to finger space. You understand when you see it.

How do you repair the power window motor on a 96 Monte Carlo?

It is best to get the whole power window regulator assembly from the junkyard, which includes the power window motor. Cost should be no more than $40. Remove interior door trim panel by removing all screws and pulling up on the door panel. Unbolt existing window regulator assembly and slide guides from aluminum window track (you will have to uncrimp one end of track). Installation is the reverse of removal (remember to recrimp aluminum window track after reassembly). I did this repair in 45 minutes, power window worked like new. Good Luck!
