The number on a car fuse refers to the Ampage of that fuse , each electrical component on any car has its own or shared fuse with a certain Amp rating, they are normally colour coded too and are to be replaced with one of the same Amp rating for protection.

It should be .045 of an inch. there should be a sticker on the fie wall or under the hood to confirm

It should be .050

USE THE SCANNER AGAIN TO READ THE CODE. THEN POST THE DTC WITH THE QUESTION. MAYBE SOMEONE WOULD GET A MORE CLEAR PICTURE OF THE PROBLEM AND GIVE SOME GOOD ANSWER. FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER DOES A POOR JOB TURNING OFF THE MIL, BUT IT DOES CLEAN INJECTORS.

The above answer is correct if you have the 4.0L V6 engine in your 1996 Ford

Aerostar , but according to one of Fords websites if it is the 3.0L V6 the spark

plugs are gapped at ( .044 inch )

EITHER 30MILLIMETER 32 OR 36 MILLIMETER I 'vote' for the 30mm - Ford seems to use that size often (Sable/Taurus have 'em too)

Anywhere in the 90s is a good figure. I would say every four fill ups, top it up from empty with the premium, expensive gas. This will keep the fuel system in tip top condition.

Just had this problem my self. I have a 2002 Ford Windstar LX. I was leaking engine coolant. Took it to the repair shop. Come to find out Ford in their infinite wisdom has place a coolant line that runs underneath the intake manifold. It is called a Coolant Bypass Line. Needless to say it cost 450.00 to repair including parts and labor. Per the mechanic Ford has a repair kit that you can buy but has not issued a recall even though it is a known problem.

BE VERY CAREFUL not to confuse the o2 sensors when thay are removed, Fuel Supply - Looks for poor feedback control in rich direction Could be O2 sensors - cat converter - or backfire caused - clear the error code and note if it recurs when a backfire or other exhaust event occurs. If a backfire or exhaust event causes the problem you need to fix the engine timing or other problem causing the back fire - a cat converter or O2 sensor can cause backfire.

Of course you do not have to remove the engine. Take the car to a professional for this repair. Your question indicates that you do not have the knowledge or skill to perform this repair.

Just a guess, but it might be a leaking fuel line, meaning the injectors aren't getting enough fuel into the cylinders, and that's also where the smell is coming from.The other thing you could check is your spark plugs. It sounds strange, i know, but I've seen that happen. If your spark plug isn't sparking, you'll smell gas, because it isn't getting burned. Also would explain your rough starting.

it's a ford ,scared to be found on road dead, or if that is an alwheel drive van make sure all your tires are the same size.

While we're talking different manufacturers, there could be a similar design problem: 1990 through 1996 Ford Crown Victorias have an occasional problem with the transmission locking up after the car sits with hazard lights flashing. Seems the fuse that powers the flashers also powers the electric overdrive on the 'Police Interceptor' package Crown Vics. The fuse gets hot, burns out and, not only do the hazard lights stop flashing, the tranny won't come out of 'Park', until the fuse is replaced. With lots of patience (and a few foul words), you can at least get the car to a shop by doing the following:

- Turn off the engine. - With your foot on the brake, wiggle the ignition lock and the shift lever at the same time, until you get the selector into 'Neutral'. - The car should start in 'Neutral' and then you can shift into whatever gear you need (Not 'Park'!)to drive it to a shop.

Just go to the Champion Spark Plug site and you can find the gap info there. Just find the correct plugs for your vehicle and in the info there they put the gap. Hope that helps.

Problem with the anti-lock brake system. Take it to a pro. I would try replacing the brake light bulb in the high brake light located in front of the rear window. If the bulb is blown this will also make the cruise control not work, and the ABS light will come on from it. I am not sure if this is true for all of the brake lights or not, but it is worth a shot before seeing a pro.
