The difference between brake horsepower and horsepower or wheel horsepower, they are the same thing, is that brake horse power is the power produced by the crank. The wheel horsepower is the amount of power delivered to the wheels. Brake horsepower refers to the method used to test the engine. A brake is attached to the engine and used to maintain the engine at a constant RPM at full throttle. The delivered power output is then a simple calculation of RPM times torque. Horse power is based on the average amount of work that a horse could do in a day. It is taken to be 746watts. well you guessed it engine output is also specified in kilowatts so divide by 746 and you have horsepower. As stated above it is all the same thing. There is a difference between advertised horsepower and brake horsepower. Advertised horsepower is what a manufacturer will rate its engine/automobile/machine to produce. Brake horsepower is the actual measured horsepower, for example, of a motor on an engine dynamometer.

Engine is overheating. it could also just be that your radiator cap is bad and allowing the pressure to release too soon. Keep an eye on your temperature gage, if is showing hot or over heated then check coolant level and possibly water pump problem or head gasket, if not overly hot then suspect the radiator cap.

the fan kicks on 212 deg. it should run about 195 to 200 if it getting hotter than this you may need to change the thermostat and the you can put ome or go with something diff.

On your alternator, there should be two bolts on either side of the alternator. Losen the surentine belt up enoungh to slide off the pully of the alternator. Remove the two bolts on both sides of the alternator and slide the alternator up.

Fogging oil is a light weight oil which is sold in an aerosol can. It is normally used to protect metal surfaces such as engine cylinders from rust during storage. When used, the oil comes out as a vapor spray and settles on and adheres to all surfaces it comes in contact with. Because it is an oil, it will not evaporate. It is also very light so it will not drip down due to gravity. When the engine is returned to use, the oil is light enough so that it is easily burned off or dissolved and will not interfere with normal operation of the engine. It can also be used in gas tanks and carburetors. Not to be confused with a 'fog machine' which uses glycerin to simulate a heavy fog mist during rock concerts.

Before the key will come out of the lock.

The Keyway should be in the vertical position, the same position it was in when

the key was put into the lock.

Caution:

Be very careful not to damage the dust shutter door

at the entrance to the keyway.

It is held in place by a small hinge pin and spring.

If it breaks, remove the parts from the keyway.

I recently view many idea's on the internet in how to change your head lamp on your 2001 Pontiac grand am. I also responded to this same web page and answer the question by explaining the way from underneath the fender well and reaching up to the lamp for removal. Well skip that idea, yeah it's possible, I did it, but the other guy had it right!

All you need for tools is this: Channel locks or pliers, a trim tool that looks like a forked screw driver cost $8.99 at the auto parts( and you can use a flat head screw driver if you are careful), a flat head screw driver,eye protection,and your fingers and that's it!

First lift the hood and it does not matter which side of the lamp bulb you have to replace. Take your trim tool or screw driver(careful with screw driver) and pop the head up, not the washer part on the plastic pin retainers on the plastic ram shield that covers the radiator. Note: all the pins are not the same, the fatter pins go in the bigger holes, and the skinner ones in the small holes when you put the shield back together.

Now go to the head light assembly and look on top from one side to the other and you will see a metal tab on each side ( total of two tabs)Now you can try with your finger first, or use the pliers. Grab a hold of the tab and gently push away from you and at the same time pull up. When both tabs are pulled up about 1/2 way up or so, your head light assembly is ready to be pulled out. Now care fully angle it out so you can see the lamp bulb clip. Now don't worry you did not mess up your head lamp alignment, they are adjust by the small screws.Now take a screw driver and gently lift up working both sides in pulling the electrical plug wiring out from the lamp bulb. Then careful unscrew the plastic ring retainer and slide it out of the way and then remove the bulb by turning a little and pulling it out.Note: Don't break the fins on the big plastic ring retainer because if you do, that's a dealership item and it will roughly cost you $12.00 and hope that the nearest dealership has it! Second, when you install the new bulb, don't touch the lamp bulb glass area, this will add your oil base finger marks and will shorten the bulb life span. Third, make sure you wear safety glasses, if the bulb does break when you remove or install you will receive eye damage from the elements that make the lamp bulbs. Just be careful!

Now put the new bulb in and the plactic ring retainer, plug in the wiring. Now since you completed that part let's put it back together. All I need to say is this, when you put the head lamp assembly back in, apply a little pressure while pushing the clips down. Examine first where the holes are inside the frame where the clips grab the head lamp assembly. Now put the shield back in its flexable bend it in the corners and put the plastic pins in. That's it!The whole process should take you 15-20 minutes or less, and it's not that hard.

How do you reset the anti theft on a 96 pontiac grand am?

Ok, please follow this very closely. Turn the key on to the on position. Just far enough as to not start your car. You will see anti-theft system flashing. Let it flash for about 10 min. When it quits flashing, remove the key and let it set for about a minute or two. Put the key in the ignitiion and attempt to start. It should work. This worked for me.

Does it turn over?

Is it getting fuel?

Is it getting spark?

Ther are (2) fuse boxes. One is the Power Distribution supply which is located under the hood on the fender well ( Driver's Side). The other one is located drivers side left just under the dash. There should be a cover marked " FUSE " Hope this Helps !!!!

First you want to remove the bumper cover, it isnt nesecary but it saves a couple hours of time.

Second Remove headlights, if you havent while taking the bumper cover off.

Third there is a couple bolts holding in the header panel, remove those and then there (may) be a wire clipped into the back of the header panel, if so carefully remove it.

Fourth repeat all previous steps in reverse for installation.

It's a 14 gallon tank so multiply by the current cost of gasoline per gallon.

Open the Hood and support it with the support rod.

The Spark Plugs are located directly in front of you on the front (*or left side*) of the engine just below the Cam cover and above the Exhaust Manifold.

*Front wheel drive vehicles usually have the Engine turned to the right, therefore the Front of the Engine faces the Passenger side Fender.

The Spark Plugs are numbered as 1, 2, 3, 4 from YOUR left to YOUR right when facing the Engine from the front of the Vehicle.

The Timing is usually 1-3-2-4.

1. Open the hood. 2. Remove the front air deflector. 3. Apply light pressure to the headlamp lens to hold the headlamp assembly in place while disconnecting the retainers. 4. Lift up the headlamp assembly retainers to release. Important: Note the location and position of the headlamp adjuster retainers and the locator tab. 5. Remove the headlamp assembly, pulling straight forward from the headlamp mounting panel. 6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the headlamp assembly. 7. Rotate the headlamp bulb/socket counterclockwise to release. 8. Remove the headlamp bulb/socket from the headlamp assembly, if required.

There are (2) pull up clip retainers that hold the headlamp assembly in place...Both of these must be removed for the headlamp assembly to be pulled forward...:)

I have an 02 grand am and mine would randomly not start, no sound or anything when i turned my key. It took me some research but i found a solution that works every time. Just put your key in the ignition and turn it to the on position. Leave it in for ten minutes and your security system should 'restart' itself. Turn the ignition off and then try to start you car again. It should start right up. Hope this helps. I have a 2000 grand am and mine did that for 6 months. Towed it to the dealership 5 times. Never could find the problem. Some guy did something under the hood with gasoline and told me it was the fuel pump. I told the dealership to put in a fuel pump and I have had no problems since. Its your security system which is a popular problem. To solve this: you must stop using your keyless entry. If you do have this problem there are 3 ways to start the car when the security system acts up. They are listed online.

I am having that very same problem with my 92 grand am se and they tell me it is the converter clutch solenoid not sure yet it is being looked at so I will reply when I know if that was the problem. Check and replace vacuum hoses. The larger hose from the oil separator (the black box by the power steering pump) to the manifold with the sensor in it may be the problem. Can cause a fast idle, surging when you take your foot off the accelerator, check engine light may go on and off, code check will show improper idle- possible IAC (idle air control). A bad clutch solenoid normally shows up by the engine dying when stopping.

If the car doesnt have a super or turbo charger and if you dont use nitrous then yes you can use low grade fuel in the car and it wont hurt it what so ever.Although if the grade is below the reccomended octane in your manual then a knocking noise will result as the piston fires. this isn't mechanicalbut just the noise of the gas igniting

lift vehicle. remove front tire. loosen jam nut securing inner tie rod to outer tie rod. if equipped, remove cotter pin from outer tie rod nut, which is attached to the knuckle. next, remove outer tie rod nut.with either a hammer, or a pickle fork and hammer. separate tie rod from knuckle. unscrew outer tie rod from inner tie rod. alignment is a must after job is finished.

You might need to replace your fuel pump because from what it sounds like the fuel is not getting to where it needs to, it's an easy fix for a do-it-yourselfer, most Toyota is at that year are usually located under the rear seat,when you find it be careful in removing and installing the new pump as the float is mounted with the pump

To remove the door panel: take out the side fasteners(above/below latch), the cover plate behind the door handle(remove 2 screws). The retaining clip near the hinge, Pop off the upholstered arm rest(locked in with retaining clips) remove the screw(s) and pop off the door, pull up to release from the window. disconnect the wiring harness(for tweeter and window control) and there you go! When replacing the panel...put the lip of the panel into the window well first(side closest to hinge) reallign and pop everything into place.
