Heating AC and Engine Cooling

Heating, air conditioning (AC) and engine cooling require a radiator to transfer heat. Heating a cabin requires heat to be transferred from an engine block. Engine cooling blows the heat out of the engine. AC uses refrigerants to cool air.

Hesitation when your 91 300zx engine is hot?

Is your Check Engine light on? If so, I suggest running the self-diagnostic procedure with your ECU. It might indicate a bad fuel injector, which have a tendency to work sporadically when they are failing. This causes a very noticeable hesitation, especially at cruising speeds. Unfortunately, this would be a costly repair. I hope this isn't your problem, though it's happened to my 1990 N/A on two separate occasions. Runs like a charm again when fixed though.

Where is the cabin air filter on a 2005 Chevrolet 2500 HD?

It should be located just above the passenger side foot area. One or two small screws hold a narrow cover in place. Remove the cover and drop down the two filters up inside one at a time.

Why would the car heater not blow any air?

Car Heater Not Blowing AirHere are answers from FAQ Farmers:
  • The duct fan is bad. Replace it. Beware though: it's a pain the butt.
  • After you replace the blower motor and it still doesn't work, take it to a shop for testing if you can't do it. Other possiblities are a switch, relay, resistor, fuse, wiring. You can eliminate the fuse by swapping it with another of the same. You can try the "tap test" by rapping on the dash sometimes over the glove or on the blower motor itself, somteimes a weak motor may temporarily start working. Oh yeah, all blower motors aren't bad to change.
  • If it's blowing air, but only COLD air, check that your engine coolant isn't very low.
  • Sounds electrical, check the blower motor relay, although it may be switch or motor.
  • This happened in my car! After replacing the blower motor (it wasn't broken afterall), found that it wasn't getting power due to a faulty ground. This was right behind the a/c heater radio console.
  • With the fan only blowing at the 4 setting indicates the resistor need to be replaced. The resistor controls the flow of electricity to the motor, w/ the 4 setting not limiting the current at all, which is why you the fan works at that speed. I'm in the middle of trying to fix my blower too, but so far no luck. I've replaced the motor, but nothing's changed. The volt tester shows power to and from the motor, but no movement. I'm not sure what else I can check at this point.
  • Is the fan actually running or not? Can you hear it...but no air seams to be moving? If yes, then one of the duct-work doors may be stuck. (There are little electric or sometimes vacuum operated door inside your duct work) A wire or tiny hose to one of these may be loose or fallen off. If you cannot hear the fan running at all, even on it's highest setting...then consider looking at fuses, loose electical connectors (sometimes they get kicked off by a passenger). It's actually rare to have a fan motor die...although it can happen.
  • This is a really easy fix, it's likely that your thermostat is stuck. This has happened to me on numerous occasions when I had rusty water in my radiator. The thermostat was stuck, so I replaced it and tada! You've got heat. Usually less than 10 bucks to fix.

what is the make and model and can you hear the blower motor running

What is the operating temperature for a Grand Cherokee V6?

Up until the last few years 95 C or 195 F

Many now run the 205 thermostat (98 c )

It is common for desert or southern climates to have a 180 F thermostat fitted but that is not recommended for pollution control reasons

How do you bleed the cooling system in a 1994 Peugeot 306 XL?

bleeding cooling system,peugeot306XL 94there are two points to release air in the cooling system. you fill up the system on the left side of the radiator. on the opposite side of the radiator at the top is a plastic plug. u need to twist it out to reveal a hole looking down into the right hand side of the radiator. that's the fist bleed point. the second is at the top of the engine bay. if you stand where the cooling filler point is and look staraight up u will see a few small plastic and rubber hoses running along the engine bay (just below the wipers). on one of them is another bleed point which will unscrew by hand or if needed can be undone with a flat head screw driver. after these two point have been opened you need to fill the cooling system with whatever mixture of water and coolant you decide to use. one u have filled the radiator to the max line you will be able to see the same level on the right hand side in the bleeding point.start the engine and idle between 1,500 and 2,500 by pulling the accelerator cable and moving the retaining clips at the injector which sits at the top of the engine. the cable runs over the engine and to the front and underneath. you cant miss it.when the engine runs you will see the coolant begin to drops as it pushes its way around the system. gently put the plug back in on the right of the radiator. don't push it tight. the coolant will eventually overflow and when it has a constant stream push the plug in tight. now you must wait for the same to happen at the second bleeding point. when you get a constant stream of coolant tighten the screw back up but be careful. by the time the coolant reaches the second point it will probably be hot. REMEMBER to keep the coolant topped up as high as possible as gravity will not let the coolant overflow on the first bleed point otherwise. it may help more if the car is tilted slightly so that the bleed point is lower than the filler tank. if you are having trouble a trick is to cut a large plastic drinks bottle in half a push the top into the filler tank. then fill the bottle. the water level will be higher in the bottle and will allow the bleed point to overflow. the plastic bottle will need to be as air tight as possible.

after the cooling system is bled like this put the accelerator back into the original position and run the car. if it overheats there may still be air in the system so undo the bleeding points and repeat the process. theres no need to drain the system!!!

this process looks a bit long but once you have done it once you will see how easy it actually is.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

2000 dodge 1500 5.9 liter ac blows cold but when you slow or stop down you hear a little door closing up somewhere between heater core and blower motor then it only blows hot air?

Im going to assume that you have a vacuum operated mix door since there is no other explanation for the door closing when you slow down. Having said that now you need to look for a vacuum leak between the mix door and the intake manifold, it could be a cracked tube or it may have gotten loose where it connects and when the vacuum supply lessens ( such as when you idle down )it loses its seal.

Why would a car overheat when the defrost is on?

The defrost selection cycles the AC pump, regardless of what temperature you are choosing to defrost at. This cycles the freon, and cools the evaporator (inside dash), and heats up the condenser (in front of radiator) I would check for 1. the fan working in front of the motor... 2. road debris, bugs, cotton from weeds plugging the space between the radiator and the condenser (common)

How do you replace the heater core on 1989 Chevy Celebrity?

To replace the heater core in a 1987 to 1990 Chevy Celebrity:

1. Using a suitable container drain the coolant level to below the level of the heater core inlet.

2. Under the hood loosen the clamps and remove the inlet and outlet hoses from the heater core. Remove the insulation for use on the replacement heater core.

3. Remove the under dash panel.

4. Remove the heater plenum under the passenger side of the dash. Take note of the fasteners so you can put them back.

5. There is a small duct that covers the tubes that go thru the firewall. It is held on by three screws, one of which is nearly hidden. The duct may be stuck in place with sealant, be careful not to break it.

6. The heater core is held on with two strap clamps, remove the four screws and take the clamps off.

7. The heater core should now pull out of the firewall.

Reverse these instructions to install the new heater core.

After the replacement heater core is in place refill the radiator with coolant. Start the engine and check for leaks, repair any leaks. If the coolant is hot let it cool then check the coolant level and refill as necessary.

How do you troubleshoot a problem with heated seats on a 2000 Bonneville?

Check your fuses first. Then test for power (voltage) with the switch for the seats on. Use a multimeter or test light and test both sides of the switch and where it goes into the seat as well.

I too have the same problem on a 2000 bonneville, drivers seat, I am able to turn the switch on and then it cycles off within a few seconds. I have checked the fuse and it is fine. #16 and #31 on the 2000 ssei.... let me know if you find the answer

I have the same problem. I have replaced the switch and the controller. same problem My element shows a good resistance. I think there is a thermostat in the seat pad that is the problem. I can see a return line from the elements. Ill let you know if it is that Jim

How is the cabin air filter replaced on a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country minivan?

Below the glove box near the center console is a black plastic box that contains the filter. Slide the door toward rear of vehicle and then swing door down to get to the filter. You can see the filter after opening the door.

at the spot where door is suppose to be is only the evaporator box, any more suggestions

AnotherAt the very bottom of the big black box, there are two clips that open a door, the filter slides out the bottom. It is a tight fit, it took me a little coaxing. it slides down and out toward the floor.

How do you change the heater blower motor on a 1977 Ford truck?

the blower motor is located on the passenger side firewall under the hood remove 3 or 4 bolts and the motor will come loose

Why is the engine still overheating after you have replaced the water pump heater core and thermostat?

It could be that your radiator is rusted or damaged and need to be changed. Have it checked and flushed out to be sure. Another problem could be your cooling fan is not working properly, it should come on when the engine gets to a certain temperature. If it doesn't then check the connections and have it tested to see if there is a problem. These are the first things that should be checked out and also make sure none of the hoses are collaped or clogged. If you can feel the hoses getting warm after the engine has reached the proper temperature then water is flowing through them, you must check all the hoses even the heater hoses. These are usually the main reasons for overheating. But beware that there are other things that can cause it to overheat that has nothing to do with the cooling system. Good luck and I hope you find the problem. Jean

Answerthis can be caused by an old/defective radiator cap. i would replace it.

answer replace radiator cap would be my next move then if that doesnt fix problem check that engine timing is correct

How do you fix air conditioner in a 1996 Ford Taurus?

Not enought information here. "Fixing it is almost always easier than finding the problem." First you check all the vehicle fuses and especially the AC circuit fuses. 2nd you check the system freon pressures with a set of auto air service pressure guages. Can't do it? Then you need to learn how the AC works, where the parts are located, and get a diagram(road map)of the electrical circuit. Type in "Auto air conditioning" on your search engine and read articles on theory and operation of air conditioners for several hours. Find diagrams and pictures of the components of an auto air system. Go to your local Library and check out a Taurus service manual, or buy an Auto air conditioning book at your local auto parts store. You need a VOM meter also to check voltages and connections. Now,try to find your Taurus AC compressor. With the engine running and AC on low temp - is the front outside plate on the compressor turning? NO? That is the clutch and it is controlled by the AC on/off switch, climate control computer, or the low freon pressure switch and maybe several other switches. The compressor has to pump freon and if the front plate of the compressor is not turning then the clutch is not engaged. With the engine off the freon guage pressure should be 90-120 lbs. No Pressure? No gas - you have a freon leak. Running - the low side should be 50/60 and the hi side 140/160. These are examples only. When you get some knowledge on the operation you may be able to come back here and be a bit more specific about the problem and someone may be able to point you in the right direction. You fix it yourself - you will love it. There's a few out there that would like to have 5-11 hundred to fix it. That would buy a lot of ice and maybe a vehicle with working AC. LOL

What would cause the heater to blow cold air out on both sides of a 2001 Grand Jeep Cherokee?

The HeaterTreater is an after market kit that solves heater and AC for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Laredo. It is much cheaper than the dealership fix and is easy to install. For diagnosis and info, check out www.heatertreater.net or search eBay for "heatertreater".

How do you drain a 2001 Dodge Durango radiator?

Your 1998 astro rear heater blows cold air what could be wrong with it and how do you fix it?

On the Astro and Safari vans, there is a vacuum control valve on the engine side of the firewall that controls the flow of water to the rear heater. Looking from the front of the van, it is on the left (passenger) side of the engine about 12 inches below the hood line. When you turn the rear heater on, the valve opens to allow hot water to go to the rear heater. If your van has lost vacuum pressure, the valve will not open properly. You will probably also notice that the airflow director for the front heating/cooling system will not change positions. This loss of vacuum pressure is usually caused by a broken or disconnected vacuum line. Find and repair the break or reconnect the line and this should restore function to both systems. If the airflow director for the front system is working, then the valve itself may have failed. You can either replace the valve. A quick fix is to remove the water lines from both sides of the valve and use a 3/8" plastic connector from the hardware store to connect the two lines. Use two clamps to secure the hoses to the fitting and you should be back in business. For a picture of the valve, go to http://www.napaonline.com and search for part # BK 6601320.

What do we heard in valve leaks?

If it is loosing coolant then you have a leak. Could be the reservoir itself is leaking. Cold also be a leaking water pump, or a blown head gasket. Have this looked at immediately as a blown head gasket will cause serious engine damage. You need to find this leak.

Answerif this helps, when antifreeze/coolant leaks in to the engine 99% of the time the vehicle will blow white smoke out the tail pipe.also if your oil changes to a milky white substance you have antifreeze/coolant leaking into the engine.the previous answer has the right sugestions, have it checked.
