Excessive smoke from exhaust 1997 Saturn?
When the smoke occurs helps give the answer. If you get it all the time, that usually means worn piston rings. That costs a lot to fix, but as long as you keep oil in your engine (tot the proper dipstick level), you can delay the repair for a while. Smoke that only occurs when you're decellerating means bad valve seals. That costs less to fix than rings, and can be delayed in th e same way. Hope this helps! Paul
How do I repair a burned exhaust valve?
thats a big job
irst you need to remove all accesories hanging off the head.then you need to remove inlet and exhaust manifold.you need to drain engine coolant.then remove head. once head is removed you can get at the valves.note when head is removed you will need to examine all other valves for seating and condition of valve guides. one would also try to figure the reason the valve burned out in the first place.also check all valve stem seals. so if all is good, replace bad valve, make sure it is seated properly bt doing a valve grind job.then put engine back together again.depending on what sort of engine it is, you may have to reset the timing.

Most probably, you have a valve cover gasket that is bad, and the oil is dripping down onto the exhaust manifold, and is being burned. Replace the valve cover gasket.

Where can you get the dimensions of a car exhaust system?
Go to the dealers or manufactures website, they usually will have schematics
The same reason a home fireplace needs a chimney. Cars burn fuel and air. The byproduct of this is exhaust gas. The exhaust gas needs to be expelled somewhere so it is piped out under the vehicle to the back where nobody will be breathing it.
What will happen if you cut your exhaust pipe off but leave the muffler on?
If you were to cut off your exhaust pipe the muffler would come off with it, sence it is attached to the very end... I would be alot louder, it might hurt your MPG rating....
I've just started having this problem too on my 2002 Malibu. I have found a lot of intermitted turn signal issues, especially for the 2000-01 Malibu, but I am still searching for info on the clicking (turn signal) sound from the dash.
