Get engine warm (by running a few minutes) and check the level on tranny dipstick and add until it is in the proper range. Use proper tranny fluid, it usually says what to use on dipstick.

Checked owners manual for any obvious fuses. Any recommendations why instrument panel and gauges would guit working?

Maybe it's not closing all the way? I have a 96 roadmaster wagon and have been getting check engine light lately - code error is EGR related P0400. Found out there is service bulletin for corrosion problems with the valve.

This question can produce multiple answers, before you go any further try locating your starter relay located on the right side of the battery under a cover. this cover will give a diagram showing you where the relay is located. You can take the low or high beam relay and switch it with your starter and test both ways. (turn on high beams or headlight depending on swap, then trying to start this vehicle) If nothing happens then you can eliminate that and hook up a set of jumper cables to the battery and touching the positive cable to the starter. There will be a fat wire and a skinny wire the fat wire will be covered with plastic the skinny will have a plug that needs to be removed from starter. Where this plug is connected (on the starter side) touch the positive cable to the prong if vehicle turns over, you can eliminate a bad starter, then you can turn your key on and bump the starter again if vehicle starts you need a ignition switch or you need to check your wiring.

What size engine? If the engine is a 3.4 litre, the sensor is located directly under the power steering pump. Power steering pump, must be removed before you can gain access to the camshaft sensor. I also removed the engine mount, to ease removal of power steering pump. Caution!!! (support engine with jack before removing engine mount.)

A computer diagnostic test will generally tell you if you have a faulty crankshaft position sensor.

The crankshaft sensor is behind the Starter. You have to remove the starter to get to it. You may be able to see it from underneath the car. I had to replace one today..It's a pain in the neck but my car is running great..

If you have a resistor embedded in your ignition key, it means your vehicle is equipped with a theft deterrent system, and from experience, the most common problem is a severed wire at the ignition cylinder. This would normally require replacing the ignition cylinder, which could get quite expensive because not only does it require replacing the cylinder, but would also need to cut new keys with the same resistence as the old keys. Keys cost in the $20 to $30 range, each! This cost is in addition to the cost of labor and the ignition cylinder. The way to fix this problem without replacing anything is simple: 1st, measure the resistence of the pellet embedded in the ignition key, using a digital volt/ohm meter. Then go to your nearest Radio Shack and get a resistor/s to match what you measured on the key. Then, cut the two thin white wires at the base of the steering column, the wires lead up, into the column and to the ignition cylinder. Connect each end of the resistor you got from Radio Shack to the wires you cut at the base of the column, doesn't matter how you connect to the wires. What you are doing is bypassing the resistor embedded in the key. good luck.

HERES A BETTER SOLUTION...

instead of wasting money that you don't need to, puh the button on the side of your shift knob. That's the ETS button. It will turn it on.

There is a switch at the rear of the Shift console which may have something to do with the car not starting in Park,,,, once in a while mine did. However when I removed the switch from it's position ( there is a ball-joint connection on each end of the switch ) it did not make any difference. If fact it started most of the time when the switch was not in position,, but still plugged in. The dealer quoted $450.00, then later $250.00 for the switch which is not serviced separate. It is part of the entire console shift mechanism.. By then I was ready for a junk yard search, but could not locate a 2000, and did not know if other years had the same switch. MY SOLUTION: after tearing the face off the dash, and removing the radio, I could see the ignition switch. I thought it may be the switch. There is a cable that runs from the shifter up to the back of the ignition switch. Undo the clip, then turn the key to ON, and the cable comes out. Make sure the battery is Disconnected..... Then experimenting with the battery connected, pulling out on the cable, then pushing in on the cable I found that the car started every time when I had the cable pushed in. So I put a small metal clip on the black plastic housing that pushed the white piece at the end of the cable further into the ignition switch when pushed back into place. Don't know why or how, but now the car starts every time. Cost 5 cent clip and lots of frustration on why it didn't start, and why it now does,,,, but I'll take it...

-Faulty ignition switch. Possible to clean contacts on some cars, but ultimatly needs replacing from either parts store or dealer.-Possibly worn key cylnder, too much slop not allowing it to turn ignition switch all the way to start.

Most cars require dismantling the steering column, removing airbag and steering wheel with special tool, and possibly drilling out security screws for the switch. Without these precautions, would be much easier for a thief to start the car by bypassing the key cylinder entirely, and turning the switch manually.

should be under the dash...around your left knee area (while seated in drivers seat) also, you should be able to find a shop manual at the library, you'll have to make copies of the sections you want as they are reference only, but everyone should have a regualar manual for their vehicle, available at an auto parts store....may the force be with you :)

under the hood over the battery attached to a bar, and all of them must be removed before removing battery. which i am doing today

it helps if there is a year? but its on the right side of the engine if you follow the big black hose from the radiator to the engine its right there by the engine inside the hose! that is for a 99 to 03

If you have your owners manual check that, otherwise while the car is turned off take out each fuse and see if it's still good (the metal connector is still there). If there is nothing connecting the two pieces of metal it is blown. When you find the one that is blown. Look at the amps the fuse is. 5 10 15 20 25 30 or 35. Buy a new fuse that matches the same amount of amps and put it back in the right slot.

The passenger side mirror is manual. Move it by pushing on the mirror itself. Most cars are like this, I know it kinda stinks, but thank goodness we have a knob on the drivers side.

go and have your brakes checked out it could be anumber of things but have it checked out and they can tell you exactly what is wrong!

Im assuming that you have the guad 4. Get the following tools. 5/16 wrench for the battery, 10mm wrench for the positive post on the alt, 10mm scoket for the bottom and back alt bolts, 15 mm socet for the top alt bolt.

1. Disconnect the neg term on the battery.

2. Dicsonnet the positive term and the plug on the bottom back of the alt.

3. Remove the 10mm bolt on the back of the alt

4. Remove the 10mm bolt on the bottom of the alt. (hardest to reach will need a 3 inch ext.)

5. Remove the top 15mm bolt on top of the alt.

Your done, reverse the procedure to install.
