Car Starting Problems

Generally, staring a vehicle with its battery is a quick and easy process. However, without the battery, you WILL NOT be able to start-up that engine, UNLESS, it is fully MANUAL TRANSMISSION ENGINE i.e " a gear shift vehicle. " Automatic transmission " vehicle WILL NOT be able to start without a battery. Now we know that Automatic transmission vehicle will not be able to start without it battery. Here is a very easy, but hard process to start a manual transmission vehicle that does not have a battery; " you will need to " PUSH_START " your vehicle in preferably 2nd gear, in order to the engine to fire up ". Side notes : If you were to turn off your engine or vehicle after it got started, you will have to PUSH_START it again.-Am not a vehicle mechanic, so if you need professional help, asked a mechanic : ). hope it helps.

It is on the backside of the block close to the oil filter. I just changed mine 2 days ago.

common problem with all hyundais and kias its a stuck open purge valve. when refueling fuel vapors travel past the stuck open valve and flood the intake with fuel vapors giving hard start condition.

it could be the starter, emmission relay switch,fuel pump relay switch

Distributor, plugs, gas, timing belt, fuel filter, injectors, computer, fuse. What type of car would help, some have a common most likely problem.

does it start without the choke? if it does you are probably flooding the engine with the choke readjust it

Then you have a corroded or loose cable connections or possibly a defective starter. Another possibility is a defective ignition switch. I am assuming the engine will not turn over.

Dodge does not use inertia/reset switches

The resistor workaround at the key isn't always the only problem. I tried it on my 99 Suburban and it didn't do any better with the resister bypass. You need to eliminate the entire security system. Buy the pro module for $179 plus shipping and save yourself the hassle of dealing with it ever again. Or you could go to the dealer and have them replace the entire system for over $1000. They will have to replace the key/tumbler/hall effect switch/wiring and EVO-Passlock module to get it right.

Have you recently installed a radio? I had one "professionally installed" and found out after two batteries they wired it wrong. The amp was constantly drawing power off the battery because of the wiring of the new radio. Also, if you have an automatic car starter (remote start), make sure the starting switch path is true, not open.

Under car, bell housing passenger side. Right where the transmission bolts to the engine.

I own a 1991 Camaro that has the passkey, and I trip it accidentally a lot. When this is done, go under the dash and there is a brown/black/purple wire with a black connector. Unplug this, then plug it back in and the system is reset and the car should start.

Get a new battery, mine was doing the same thing. No matter how charged it is, youll still need a new one.

This is for the timing chain tensioner that does not have the shoe attached to it. To reset the tensioner, push the inner piston all of the way down inside of the outer piston that it sits in. This may take a little work since the inner piston will be filled with oil and is spring loaded. Just work it a little at a time until you can push the inner piston all of the way in and it locks in place. Now check and see if the inner piston will spring out properly. Push in on the inner piston hard and release it quickly. Try to keep your hand over it just in case it pops out all of the way. I haven't seen it happen, but have heard about it. It kind of works like a "click" pen. It should pop out all of the way where you can see little holes around the inner piston. If it catches anywhere in between it's travel, reset it a few times to try and get it working smoothly. If it keeps on catching, it is recommended to purchase a new one since it will not set properly when it is installed. It cost me around $38.00 for a new one and is a lot less of a headache than tearing the side of the motor apart again if the old one does not set properly. To install it into the motor, push the inner piston all of the way in until it locks in place. If you purchase a new one, pop the innner piston in and out a few times. New tensioners like to stick a little since they have been locked in place for a while. With the inner piston all of the way in, bolt the tensioner in place with the shoe already installed. With a small pry bar or screwdriver, push down the inner piston. You can use the shoe as a leverage point, but be careful not to twist it too much so that it breaks. This will have to be done as quickly as you can just like when you were pushing it in by hand. It may take a couple of times, but should pop out. I personally like to put the bolt for the harmonic balancer in place and slowly turn the crank shaft in a clockwise motion to try and get some of the slack out of the timing chain. This should take care of it and hopefully there won't be a timing chain rattle.

check your battery. if your battery is Ok have your alternator and starter checked at a local Autozone or similar store

You have to program the ignition with the computer the pass lock system is lock in you may be lucky by putting the ignition on for 10 min x3 put it on for 10 turn it off for a fiew sec do this 3 times

First you need to give a little more info.Will engine crank or not, is engine getting fuel.

Check and or replace your starter solenoid.

located on the middle backside of the motor its more towards the drivers side follow the black laced wire harness around and it will bring you to it only one 8 or 10 mm bolt on the inner side and a easy to remove clip on the bottom think its the negative wire just depress the tab and pull off. please dont waste money on some dude to do it, just take 5 min and find it get anything in your way outta the way and you can accomplish replacing it in about 5-10min. Jared First, disconnect the Negative battery terminal. It's a real knuckle banger, located under the intake manifold. Access it from the top (unless you have a lift). One bolt on the drivers side and another bolt accessed from the passenger side. It would help to remove the oil filter, but with enough jiggling, you can get it freed up. Now, carefully pull off the small starter wire by grabbing the plastic portion and gently rock back and forth until it slips off. Then, lift back the plastic cover over the nut that attaches the main battery cable. Loosen the nut and remove the cable without dropping the nut and washer. Now, fish the starter out between the hoses and viola, you're done! Took me 30 minutes to remove it, bit only 10-minutes to put it back in.

it depends on the year of the car, but on some older American models there is a relay switch (about a $3.00 part) that goes out and makes the car appear "dead". most back yard mechanics will insist it's the battery or alternator, but if your car has a relay switch I would spend the couple of bucks and replace it first.

you flooded it

1. Battery could have a weak cell.

2. Brushes on starter motor may be worn.

3. check battery connection at battery for good connection.

4. either positive or negitive battery cable broken at connector.

5. starter solenoid not working and allowing starter to spin engine over

to start.

6. loose 12volt wire at secondary connector on starter solenoid.

7. bad or weak 12volt fusable link to ignition system.

Have you thought the alternator may be bad? Sounds like an electrical short. Check ground wires throughout the car

Make sure the air filter is clean. Fuel can't burn without air. Also try replacing the spark plugs.
